Honestly, Xenosaga EpI still gives me cold and quiet nightmares.
Kinda makes the battle theme a bit more of a high and a low to listen to... It's so beautiful and it's the only thing you'll listen to.

I once said this exact same thing to someone. Nifty to see it reiterated elsewhere. What a quiet game and what an effect its battle theme has with it.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Yeah, someone suggested adjusting the FOV instead of pulling the cam back to fix off-screen enemy attacks. The cam is rarely that close like in the second gif anyway unless you lay it flat on the ground and push it towards the character. Doesn't change the fact that allowing the player to adjust camera proximity to their liking would be the better route, as pulling the cam back will also provide problems.
Maybe like GTAV with the toggle button.

So going through the ATR Tabata did confirm that the moves in the demo -are- tied to a form of customization (the Armiger abilities if you open up the menu, my personal hypothesis) but there wasn't enough time to implement the UI to change them around, hence only the warp dodge in the demo.

I'm assuming the dodge roll will have some penalty like not having as much of an invincibility frame window, etc.

Or just make it like Crisis Core's dodge.

But they won't, because then people would complain that it doesn't play like Bayonetta...

bleh. I had high hopes for the gameplay here. Sad to see Square ruining their biggest strength in RPGs...

Noctis' voice is too deep -- sounds like Batman. Players felt they weren't able to connect with him since he looks like a young guy, and doesn't sound that way. The Director stated that he wanted to include voiceover in the demo, but timing was tight so by the time they realized the voice directing wasn't what they wanted, it was already late into the schedule, etc. The final game already has different voice acting.

Wait, they already had a new voice actor for Noctis before the demo even came out? I wonder if other characters got the same treatment.

Maybe like GTAV with the toggle button.

Yeah, that'd be great. It's basically like FFXIV and other MMOs in adjusting camera positions.

I would hope so.

I'm curious how they'll configure it. Sounds like it's an alternative of the warp dodge.

I know plenty of energetic outdoorsy people, where the hell did he get the idea that outdoorsy people dress like this? Let alone mechanics, who last I checked have to wear protective gear.

"The cute mechanic" is an archetype I felt I've come across frequently enough in media across the globe that I feel I understand what they were going for. I mean sure, I'd agree the neckline might be atypical but I don't get the feeling that the character designs for anybody in this game are going for or should strive to be 100% realistic.

Yeah, giving us the option to adjust camera position to your liking would be much better. I like playing up close as the action looks more interesting and you can actually see what Noctis is doing. Pulling the cam back actually makes it worse anyway imo since the biggest problem is all of the highly active enemies swarming into the middle of the camera and blocking your view of Noctis.

You can see the camera pull back here and eventually you can't tell what the hell is going on with Noctis.

As opposed to a closer camera position, much better sense of what's going on with the character and your input.

I like that our ultimate conclusion of player choice is similar, but not are preferences :lol

The camera pulled too far back look in the .gif isn't great I agree, but I vastly prefer a larger view of the battlefield compared to your preference of up close. Once you know the action inputs and animation frames of yourself/others that becomes moot in my eye.

Wait, they already had a new voice actor for Noctis before the demo even came out? I wonder if other characters got the same treatment.

As far as this is concerned, I'm not sure if it is so much a different voice actor as it is voice direction. He talks about voice direction and what he wants conveyed for a good chunk of time.

In the final game a quest feature will be added where you'll decide the party for the day(Noctis paired with Prompto, all 4 companions). Certain missions won't allow all four party members. Battle tactics and conversations will change depending on the amount of people currently in the party. At the end of the day, party members will come back together to bring what they got from the day.

I'd be interested in seeing what narrative justification (if any) there'd be for having only one or two of your already-just-three-total party members with you for a day out.

The problem I always had with Noct wasn't the camera, it ws Visibility. Honestly, I think he should ditch the black and get a different color jacket, or maybe have some magic tron lines in the fabric when he's in combat to properly mark him out apart from enemies, especially during the night.

lol I fail to see how that's "focusing". It's a full frontal shot, of course her boobs will appear. That's an issue with her actual design, not with the camerawork.

I hate that there seems to be this weird idea that the only way to BE sexy is to simply SHOW IT ALL OFF.
Hell, a glance or a wink can be sexy, and it least it does more than tits and ass flashes.

Ah well, reposting for posterity.

Be nice if they can change her just a bit.

I feel like the only big studio out there with the competence to recognize this simple fact and the cinematic prowess to achieve it in spades is Naughty Dog. Some of the looks Uncharted's characters give one-another just ooze sexiness in a way that Square Enix is not going to grasp any time soon, I'm afraid.

I'm watching the portion with the top 15 criticisms right now, it's really interesting hearing their specific reactions and discussion of them.

Not sure if posted here but this is from the other thread:
>Europe complaint
Cindy was too sexy. The Director stated "she's actually not meant to be an erotic character", but that she's supposed to be an energetic outdoorsy character and she's a mechanic, so the dress is normal. They didn't feel it would be too problematic for her to show up on screen while you parents are in the living room.
They don't want to change the current concept, but they want to make sure they "maintain the boundary" by "maybe moderating the way she's presented, where it appears as though overly sexual themes are being brought to the forefront, because that's not who she's supposed to be"."
Jon-Stewart-bullshit.gif

It's nice to hear that they seem to be making adjustments to fix a lot of the complaints, but it's weird that they are just bullshitting around this one when all they have to do is change her outfit a little bit.

I hope so. I don't get why Noctis was singled out; It was too deep for the character, but at least it didn't make my ears bleed unlike Prompto or make me roll my eyes at Ignis' "english" accent.

I thought Noctis had the best voice direction in the demo, but still, even that felt a little off with the deepness (I liked it though, after getting used to it)

That was the least of the problems though considering Ignis and Prompto...

Finished watching the whole thing. It really seems like they're taking fan feedback for gameplay and bug issues. However, they seem very firm and resistant on changing some of the core ideas and designs in the game(Cindy's design, 4 male characters, realistic feeling of movement). They apologized for some of the issues with the demo and it was nice seeing Tabata be honest with several things cut from the demo's release. I'm looking forward to the next ATR which seems to be targeting the end of May!

Sounds to me like the people who want a Cidney redesign are SOL, SE ain't having none of it. Which doesn't entirely shock me given this is the same company who was cool with Tifa's original design, the X-2 redesigns of Yuna and Rikku, and The 3rd Birthday.

:(

I really liked him.

I'm pretty sure it'll be the same voice actor. They're just changing his tone of voice.

It would be an improvement to hear a contrast in the voice for when he's calm or angry.

That's a pretty nice design. It would seem to match what they were talking about for the character much better than what we saw.

Compared to the rest of the cast Cindy sticks out like a sore thumb.

I wouldn't have expected them to modify the four-male gig this late into development. I'm sure it really is as core to the overall storytelling experience as they've stated. The realistic movement is... not something I've really noticed one way or another, so I guess it's something I'm cool with.

I was kind of hoping something less cringe-worthy with Cindy might be on the horizon, I suppose, but whatevs.

They're probably thinking Cidney's design is okay from the perspective of stuff like FMA's Winry Rockbell who also underdresses for a mechanic, but the biggest issue with her design IMO, is the poor sense of balance.

If she's going to be underdressed, do it on one part of her body, be it the top half, or bottom half. Having it on both sides is a little too provocative, and doesn't do the intended character image right.

Yeah, thank god they're keeping their designs at least.

I really don't want to see another thread like the mobius one.

Individual quests seem fun too, hopefully there are quests with no fighting in them too...

Type-0 HD digital still comes with the demo right? I might get it if only to keep the first version of the demo.

I did my part and filled in the survey, but I feel the basic traversal and combat needs -and will receive- a huge overhaul.

I know it's a different game and a different situation, but it was funny to see the quick turnaround for changing the MC's default costume in Mevius but not for Cindy in this game.

Good to hear about the animation cancelling. Let's see how they balance the rest now.
Sucks that no warping outside of battles. That would have been the single best feature, but I can understand how much testing that would require. Still, they should push for it.

Honestly, I don't really see an issue with Cidney's design (although some can argue the realism in an engineer's outfit). Plus, the comment about parents in the living room seems to be targeted towards a much younger audience. In addition, I would say the strip clubs in GTA are much more obscene compared to Cidney's outfit.

I liked his "The money." The rest.. not so much.

I think we'll get more like that line and his line to Cindy and less that sound like batman. I watched it fyi.

Oh they also said that they would not change Cindy's design, just the way that she is presented.

Also, it sounds like they are taking a pretty level-headed approach toward this, I don't think anybody will really feel worried about "Feedback Fantasy" after watching.

I'm not sure how many people actually think it's "obscene". It just looks tacky and odd in relation to everything around her.

I hope not, I kinda hope to see the couple show up in every town as a gag, with the guy dumping/breaking up/divorcing the wife in the last town or something.

Haha. That'd be kinda cool.

I can only imagine the nightmare that is bug testing a warping mechanic in a huge open world next gen game.

Sabretusks moving way too quickly and often away from Noctis didn't make it to top 15 main issues huh. Was also hoping the boring design of Duscae region are also noted and addressed.

Edit: Good that they're adding animation cancelling and decreasing the deepness of Noctis's voice, but I wished warp is freely usable at the cost of MP outside of combat.

Duscae 2.00.
I called it! I had mentioned it in one of the FFXV threads before(maybe the demo OT), about it would be cool if they'd update the demo with bug fixes and gameplay additions. Looks like they're gonna try to update it at least once. :D

All in all, Tabata said a lot of the right things(IMO). I'm super excited for what's to come.

Also, yay for there actually being a dodge roll that doesn't use MP.

Can't wait for individual quests. :)

Thing is, this is just a small portion of Duscae. It's not even the whole map. We don't know what the rest of Duscae looks like.
