Nintendo teams with Universal for Theme Park attractions

This has me so freaking excited but at the same time we don't really know how big this is going to be. I at least hope they'll be successful so they can expand later on if they want to.

If I recall correctly from the articles around the time that Disney purchased Marvel, universal holds those rights in perpetuity in a contract that is grandfathered. As long as Universal continues to pay the agreed upon license fee there is nothing Disney can do and Universal can keep Marvel Superhero island for as long as they want.

Now back at that time, the rumor was that Universal would release the rights back to disney for a sum that would cover the revamp of the entire island and replacement attractions. I would have to think that is well over half a billion dollars. Disney declined that offer.

I don't think Marvel island is going anywhere anytime soon.

My only worry is that Nintendo will focus on Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon, as usual, instead of prepping some of their other franchises. I imagine the hypothetical F-Zero ride would sooner become Mario's Winged Cap Adventures.

As explained before in this thread, Universal basically hold the Marvel rights as they were before the Disney buyout. They are looking to expand the Marvel section to more closely resemble the movies, not to get rid of them.

The Harry Potter stuff is the best themed "experience" I have ever been at. Incredibly faithful to the movies.

They still have to pay Disney for merchandise etc.

Removing Woody Woodpecker would be like removing Mickey Mouse from Disney Land. Okay, maybe he's not that iconic, but I don't want them to start erasing their history.
Their history is already erased. Almost none of the rides that they opened the Orlando park with still exist. They are out of real estate, so something is going to have to get torn out to make way for new projects.

Yup, they erase history there on the regular.

Kid Zone is most likely a goner. It is ALWAYS empty. It's not a draw, even for kids.

NBC has been very aggressive with increasing the resort capacity, so it's not out of the question that they could/would expand the theme park real estate, if necessary, as well.

Where would they expand to in the area? Do you know the real estate there?

The last resort expansion was OFF SITE, which I do not see as a possibility for a theme installation. It will be int he existing park, and there is PLENTY of underutilized space there already.

I hope this is more Harry Potter and less the entire rest of Universal lol. Harry Potter's the closest universal's parks have ever come to being Disney caliber. I'm excited!

Also, watched the GameXplain video. That Josh guy is really unstable.

How bizarre is it that the E.T. ride has managed to last over 25 years, beating out Jaws, King Kong, and Back to The Future?

I will be surprised if the ET Adventure doesn't get torn down, or repurposed into a Nintendo-ride.

Good to see Nintendo step into the 21st Century...

All of there moves lately have been good, I think I might even buy some stock when I finish my debt.

Spielberg's the main reason it's stayed open for so long in Orlando.

I doubt we'll see rides for anything other than Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, and I guess Kibry maybe? Most will be limited to merchandise, they won't have that many tides, at least not at first.

Pokémon? I don't really see Nintendo and TPC miss an opportunity like that.

ET ride assets will be buried in some landfill so that Nintendo can claim the area.

Feels just right.

What could it get repurposed into? Mario world where you ride in a lakitu cloud?

I think zelda is ill-suited for a ride, donkey kong would be better as a roller coaster w/ minecarts or something.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
My ideas:
Mario Bumper Karts
Super Mario Galaxy ride guided by Rosalina
Zelda horse ride through Hyrule
Zelda journey through the timeline
Metroid shooting gallery
Kid Icarus roller coaster
F-Zero roller coaster
Wonderful 101 "movie" or roller coaster
Splatoon attraction similar to oldschool Nickelodeon Studios (with slime or "ink" everywhere)

I'd actually prefer Lost Continent went byebye as it's ways more room, and pointless. We shall all see once they themselves decide (something I'd bet hasn't happened yet).

Universal can combine Kidzone with the huge expansion plot between MiB and Springfield. You can see it on Google Maps. I might whip up a diagram when I get home. They would have a LOT of room :)

Damn those dudes are so hyped. And now I'm hyped. So..... we'll probably see something in like 5 years? How long do these things take?

That's a fairly conservative estimate. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been in the making here in LA for well over that, but there's no telling how huge/involved these new attractions will be.

Universal seems to work a lot slower in Hollywood. Both Wizarding Worlds in Orlando took about three years, and King Kong looks to be 2.5 years.
