NPD Sales Results for April 2015 [Up1: Xbox One #1]

That's very doubtful. Amazon Witcher sales are currently very PS4 centric. In may we have #4 for PS4 and #27 for XB1.

As for console sales in April, Amazon clearly hinted that Xbone will win.
PS4 #41
Ac Unity X1 #42
MCC Xbox One #52
Batman PS4 #96

#42 + #52 beat #41

Amazon software sales mean absolutely nothing when projecting NPD's

Witcher is in 5 days. Possibly.

Won't NPD May be revealed before E3? Maybe MS will want good news leading into the event.

Yeah it would make sense. I guess thats up to Gamestop though but I wouldn't be surprised if MS tries to do something big to get May. If they go into E3 winning the last 2 months in a row of NPD it would be a good marketing tool

Did not see this coming (X1 win over PS4 even if by a small margin).

Sony should be way more aggresive, they can't allow MS an easy comeback.

It is wrong I agree. :)

It's just a silly thought imo.
It really is. That Y2Kev post on competition needs to be quoted in every OP of every NPD thread from now on; it's sad people don't understand how it really works.

Also apparently I've been bitch-slapped on MKX. Thanks for the corrections you three ;)

One thing that I note on Amazon is that PS Store gifts cards always sell better than Xbox counterpart, but Xbox Live Gold card it's constantly ahead of PS Plus membership card.

Please someone tell me what would happen with

Xbox ONE Slim bundled with Halo 5 $299?

Over the holidays? Massive numbers. I mean the Xbone AC bundle last year did huge business. Not sure if MS wil go as low as $299 though. Maybe with a stand alone. A Halo bundle will probably be $350

It's over, period. Sony lost their last ace, and that's the end of their PS4 hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for PS4. Sony has nothing left, nothing they can reveal at E3 would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a PS4. Except if they want to play NMS. Which will also come to One at some point.

The age of Sony is done.

For a New 3DS exclusive port, that's pretty good.

for whatever reason, nintendo really made the 3ds the jrpg machine this gen. i wonder if it's the psp userbase transitioning over? the ds didn't really pull these kinds of numbers for these kinds of games.

What are people doing with their copies of BF Hardline? The player count has been plummeting since launch. I can't believe its in 3rd place this month.

Nintendo! Make Wii Sports U and bundle it, release for the holidays, profit.

Well...

Gift cards are being bought by everyone. Including overseas. XBL cards have sales most of the time.

Do you mind quoting his post for me? It's hard to look for it under all these pages. Thanks :)
<Ooosh> Well the thing is, the quote comes from a much older NPD thread. I'm certain someone has archived it and...

...fuck it. I'll Google it. Here it is:

No, it's not. I don't understand where this is coming from.

Competitive platforms are good for the consumer. Sales parity is completely irrelevant to the consumer. In fact, if one platform lags behind the other, it is because the consumer has decided that one platform is not actually good for them. That is how it works. The dog wags the tail.

This "competition is good" thing has grown completely into a monster. Competition is the means by which a lessor is weeded out. If a platform is weaker, it should lose. That is competition. This whole "parity is good for the consumer"/"two platforms selling well is good for the consumer" sentiment is bizarre.

What you are espousing is not capitalism or competition but instead crony capitalism in which market competitors are propped up for the sake of having market competitors.

I didn't. Perhaps YOU did. None of those competitors were on "even footing" when it came to sales. They still aren't. Unless you think coke at 48b in sales is on even footing with PepsiCo at 16b.

Sales parity is IRRELEVANT to the consumer. Sales differential is the RESULT of competition.

Competition results in a winner and a loser. It's not best for the consumer to have everyone on even footing "just because that's best for the consumer." You won't find evidence of this in history; you are depicting controlled markets and zombie corporations.

Here's how it should work: two systems took different paths to the market. That is true. The market will validate them both independently. Someone might lose and it's going to suck for some Internet group.

People are confusing the outcome of competition with the benefits of competition, which is where this silliness over sales comes in.

Legit surprised to see Xbox One on top. A small margin for sure but still the top selling console for the month amidst an entire generation so far of PS4 domination. MS might end up in second place this generation worldwide but at least they'e capable of putting up a fight on their home turf. Reading through this thread (as I've done so for most of the night) my mind keeps shifting to E3 now. MS have Halo 5 and Tomb Raider exclusivity for the holidays. Then there's Rare's secret game that could be Banjo 3. If MS announces even more games in addition to those for the holidays then the battle in late 2015 could be quite fierce indeed. Sony have the momentum and worldwide lead but most of their heavy hitters have shifted to 2016. Based on what we know now (prior to the E3 storm that could admittedly change things considerably) MS has the stronger holiday line up. For now.

Xbox winning this month thus showing us they have the capability to win certain months in NA off season coupled with what we know thus far of the line ups for the holidays; I can see MS doing extremely well this holiday season and gaining some ground on the PS4 in NA.

All of this is just so fascinating. Here's to a great E3 for them both.

Did not expect X1 to even come close to PS4, much less beat it, until the holidays, especially with Bloodborne, The Order, and MLB The Show just released.

Maybe MS can take NA this year if they play every single one of their cards right through the end of the year. They better bring it at E3.

Take it overall? No chance. Total this year? Maybe.

Sony need to stop thinking of making profit of the hardware and try to sell as many PS4s as possible then recoup through software sales.
They are giving MS a really easy time in the U.S. to make a comeback drop that price by $50 and you are good to go.

So I guess the market of "who buys what when there's literally no software?" is almost dead even. Interesting. The top 10 games list is a combination of boring, expected and depressing. Except MLB. Dark Souls 2 got squashed but I doubt that was a high-budget affair to produce and like the also-ran FF Type-0 can limp to profitability.

Isn't Sony locked in on price through June at least because of the price on the Batman bundle? I was thinking they'd stick to $399 through the MGSV launch but now I'm not as sure. Perhaps a cut in just the US for momentum; Doesn't need it elsewhere and EU/JP/RotW would be merely procedural. For all intents and purposes they still don't have a competitor outside the US and UK.

A whopping 13k difference then? lol

Pitiful numbers all around, though.
I love how people say "pitiful numbers all around" and don't put things into content. Is the number 187K for XB1 sexy looking by itself? No.

Compared to the 115K XB1 did last May? Yep.

Come on. What are you using as your base of comparison so come to a conclusion that it is pitiful?

Next month it'll look even sexier. I'm sure we will see a PR line about sales being double that of last year.

77k is such a rut, and 115k was in April, not May :)
