Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4 is much, much better now. Bless.

Just asked for a refund:

Helpful.

But didn't they falsely advertise it as the ultimate version, with a lag that is lower than the PS3 version, which turns out to be a lie?

Can't you ask to be refunded after being subjected to false advertisment?

Turns out you can't.

Don't take the input lag number as gospel, just use it as a comparison between games on the same format. Their testing method isn't the best as they use an adaptor to convert a USB keyboard into an input which can increase lag. Also, even though the adaptor is the same in all their tests, it can have different amounts of lag over different formats.

Using their methodology, it shouldn't be compared to the 360 version. However, it should be said that it clearly isn't good enough if it's not on the level of Guilty Gear or even giving MK a run for its money.

That awkward moment when you realize Nintendo got online better than Capcom.

That fantasy land probably did get awkward.

The netcode itself seems sound, better than say Smash Wii U if you want to do that comparison for some reason. The issues are in the code in general, not the online.

I don't have the game but I have some optocouplers and a good hand. I'm up for testing it out later though I would need to buy the game and sacrifice a DS4, for science.

I was hitting Juri's and Yun's links pretty consistently last night, although that's not saying much for the latter. Mak's FFS came out pretty good as well. Online was comparable or better for me compared to ps3, I only play green bars though.

Just another impression, although it far from demerits the video evidence we've seen so far.

The stories of the netcode do seem pretty consistent in being 360>PC Patched>PS4>PS3>PC Launch

I haven't seen many people say pc patched is worse than 360. In my experience the lag is less in the pc version, if only the filters worked...

Well then, it sounds like Kotaku gt their headline right. It's only "kinda" broken. I'll still wait for a patch before getting it though.

I can't fault them entirely for going cheap on this one. Street Fighter is not exactly a demanding game and you wouldn't think it would be difficult for a competent team to port.

Sony should absolutely offer refunds on this thought; they lied to their consumers about being the definitive version and having resolved the input lag problem. Not too mention all of the other small bugs. This kind of treatment wouldn't be acceptable in any other industry...

I'll have to test it out more tonight, but of those three Mak has more 1 frame links. But at the same time whether the links work or not probably doesn't matter too much because chances are I'm just adapting to what I'm working with.

I've never played the 360 version so if the input lag is relative or slightly worse than the ps3 version then my experience may be moot.

I agree, you'd think so, but apparently not. Hope an incoming patch fixes thing, I might give it a go. Not a hardcore player of fighting games but love me some SF.

Still waiting for the "SHOCKING INTERVIEW" for this port to pop up considering all these problems that are piling up ever since the release.

they wont give refunds?
people are getting the run around in this thread. i'm not too incensed to pursue a refund if it means bitching out some lowly customer support rep.

i agree that sony should give refunds; the game is not in a playable state for me. i'll consider it a 25$ lesson learned and be more wary of future ports. like you said, this should've been an easy port considering past iterations. maybe patches will alleviate some of the problems. if not, i'll adjust to the input delay.

Gamespot:

PS4's Ultra Street Fighter 4 Is Having Some Issues
Players reporting widespread problems with the new version of Capcom's fighting game.

The PlayStation 4 edition of fighting game Ultra Street Fighter IV, released this week, isn't exactly living up to its name. Initial reports are not very positive, with many calling out a variety of issues, including choppy menu screens and strange visual bugs like blurry textures and high saturation for some character models.

This NeoGAF forum post documents some other issues, including sound bugs, missing sound effects, moves not working as they should, and some degree of input lag. For a precision-based fighting game, any amount of input lag can be a major issue.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be one of the featured games at upcoming fighting game tournament Evo 2015 in July. People involved in the tournament aren't exactly happy.

Diehard SF fan, but I'm happy I didn't buy this. And, even with future patches, this sloppy port left a sour taste in my mouth. Like I feel the game is already cursed. I'll wait for SFV instead.

Sadly, It think this will be a common sentiment. They really messed up here.

So much for this helping to consolidate the player base.

Yeah. I don't doubt that something will always feel off about this port even when patched up. This game will always be Other Ocean's USF4. Kinda like that shit Tony Hawk HD game from Robomodo.

When a port fucks up game feel, it's not the same thing anymore. To say Sony/Capcom dropped the ball is a massive understatement. This shit to the FGC is MCC level derp.

And I usually don't want refunds but for this, after all the times I've already bought this game, I want my fucking $25 back.

Has anyone successfully received a refund yet? Thinking about trying to get my $25 back.

Sony will give a refund eventually. You have to ask them to escalate it to a supervisor/manager then state your case with them. In all likelihood they will refuse again. Then you have to write an angry email to them or just be angry with them on the phone. Do that about 3 to 5 times more and you'll have your refund. That's how I've always gotten mine from Sony. Never been denied, but it might take weeks.

Obviously not worth your time, but sometimes it's about the principle of the matter.
