Witcher 3 Upcoming Xbox One Patch To Include 30 FPS Lock

I literally ONLY experienced it during that first cutscene. Anyone here saying performance is atrocious seems full of shit to me. Even the DF stuff showed it was basically always above 30 with very rare dips to like 28-29 fps.

I'm pretty sensitive to framerates and I struggle to find any performance hiccups so far, aside from the intro cutscene section which was very noticeable.

all of this

the first ever cutscene is the only time where shit really hit the fan. I haven't seen anything as bad as that since

Still hold off

stuttering was so bad on XB1 that I traded it in for the PS4 version. It's THAT bad unfortunately...

What? At which parts? I'm still low level (level 7, though I've probably played for close to 20 hour snow) but haven't encountered any stuttering that's nearly that severe.

EDIT: Oh yeah, stuttering in the opening cut scene(s) is bad, but that's literally it. I've never experienced it during gameplay. Did he play longer than an hour? :p

Yeah exactly, posts like this make me think it's just ps4 shitposting. Have never had a single issue since the opening cutscene ended. I saw textures loading in once, framerate never died though.

Thats my experience as well. (34 hrs in) 720 kills

Agreed. Saying its atrocious is hyperbolic. That means its literaly unplayable blightown level of bad.

I'm 30 hours into this game on Xbox One and there's really very little performance problems. I'm also a PC gamer usually and do performance analysis here on Xbox One games (I posted the YouTube videos calling out Sleeping Dogs for poor performance, for example) - so here's my analysis: there's some minor blips in performance, but otherwise it's perfectly playable.

"You should totally buy the PS4 version instead!"

Don't we have an entire thread dedicated to the PS4's framerate issues? Or is that just as overblown as some of the posts in here?

I'm having problems finding these performance problems on X1 aswell. However I also know that I am not prone to really notice these things.

I do notice the framerate pacing problems though, but other than that the game is holding up well.

Is it time to pick up the game or we still holding?

It was time to pick up at launch imo. I was initially worried about the stutter but after the initial cutscene the game runs fine, I don't notice any stutter during regular gameplay. I've put 53 hours into the game and it is far from unplayable.

Framepacing

As in, you pan the camera and there's constant microstutter (as well as judder when simply moving around). I can't look past that. It's present on PS4, but because of the framerate lock, it's nowhere near as severe.
As others have said, if you don't notice it, bless your heart because if you do, YOU CAN'T unsee it :(

I haven't had a problem, maybe if I had played the pc or ps4 version I've had noticed it, but it's running pretty well for me outside of that first cut scene.

I wonder if the stuttering in the first cutscene is a consequence of the game still installing in the background. I am assuming most people started playing before the game finished full installation.

FWIW: I am 20 hours in and, apart from the tiny text font, have not had any problem enjoying the game so far. Minor annoyances like occasional sound stuttering or mild bugs. I only hope the upcoming patch does not bring worse things than it fixes. I could play and finish the game as it currently is (though I would really welcome an increase on the font size)

Agreed with some of the others saying they don't notice the stutter, I honestly haven't seen it apart from the opening cutscene which was absolutely atrocious

Cdpr says it's a lock and I believe them. The framerate on Xbox one consistently stays above 30.

The only way a lock would be possible is to drop the resolution or detail when things get hectic and the would go below 30fps.

Since they have a variable resolution I guess they could go below 900p in those instances to compensate, but I seriously doubt it.

It's much more likely this is just to cap framerate at 30fps and he misused the term by calling it a lock.

I don't know. A lock and cap are two very different things.

lets wait and actually see before coming to conclusions.

The XB1 version barely ever dips below 30FPS as is, so it's more or less going to be a lock.

Ah, I see--I thought you meant stuttering even when just standing still, my bad!

I occasionally notice the framepace stutter but it doesn't affect me nearly to that extent (clearly). I'm hoping this patch will make it nice and smooth.

They mean locked to 30fps as in capped.

How would they have suddenly optimised the entire map to comb out the stress spots and just for x1... :S

Anyway, it should make a decent difference...if it's anything like on PC with RTSS, dropping the framerate to something more manageable prevents it from dropping to an even lower fps and stuttering when it's set to run at a higher fps than it can for some spots.

Cdpr says it's a lock and I believe them. The framerate on Xbox one consistently stays above 30.

It'd be nice to believe in things again.

That stutter...while it looks really like stutter, I feel is mostly due to the controls speeding up ... the slowing down of the camera panning so it's more tight. When you slow down the panning - even EXTREMELY slightly, it stutters as it decelerates the rotation faster than you slowed it down...then sees you didn't bring it to a full stop and speeds it up a little. Surprised it's taking this long to sort out.

Yeah, I've put about 25 hours into the game and have not noticed any BAD stuttering. My gameplay experience has been pretty smooth so far.

Edit: Just downloaded new patch.

Why the hell would you want the option to run the game at ~35 fps with awful stuttering? The game is smoothest when it's in sync with your TV's refresh rate.

The simple answer is having FPS occasionally go above 30 doesn't bother everyone.

There is nothing wrong with having options.

The patch is online? Finally.
Someone update me on how is the font size with the patch.
Can't play until the night.

I started downloading it, but then it dawned on me...

Will this patch have the XP bug that was introduced to the PS4 and PC versions?

I don't care much about the "stuttering", but what about the text font size? are there any options to increase it with the new patch?

I literally ONLY experienced it during that first cutscene.

I personally found the first hour or so of gameplay to be completely intolerable, much in the same way I found Watch Dogs intolerable.

If I turn left and right, and scene in the background sputters, flickers, and pulses, it drives me up the goddamn wall. Objects should move across the screen as solid, cohesive objects. The typical 30fps flicker/stutter and pulsing that comes from sudden frame rate changes pull me right out of the immersion.

To be fair, Witcher 3 at ultra settings on my living room PC was just as bad, but at least on the PC I can tune the detail settings in order to get the frame rate I desire.
After some adjustment, I had absolutely everything running at a solid 60fps.... Absolute bliss.

I know I'll never get 60fps from these consoles, but I'll take any improvement I can get.

Just played a bit with the patcjh and I'm honestly not sure, seems smoother to me I guess but it might be placebo.

Only the loot pop up window font was increased nothing else. I just tried to read a book in my inventory and no difference :(

I guess it is the 1.03, which haven't been released in Xbox One yet.
The patch I just downloaded is 1.03 for the xbox one

Haven't really noticed many frame rate issues on XB1, a few dips here and there but nothing major. Will see if I can tell a difference later today.

Just give me bigger text please.

Yeah okay, but what's the benefit of having it unlocked? Whether it bothers them or not, it's still less jerky and stuttery vs. consistent.

There's no reason whatsoever to give people that option. That's just unnecessary work for the devs when there are other, actual important issues to deal with.
