Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4 is much, much better now. Bless.

I dunno. I'm one of the best Dhalsim's in the world right now (ranked 19th after about an hour's worth of play) on the PS4 with my 40% win rate. Player base is juuuust fine.

I think there's only roughly 19 Dhalsim players out there, soooo...

Just kidding lol.

Seek to reduce latency time compared to PS3 version. Ports PS3 version...

That's really disappointing, now you can almost guarantee that they can't fix the latency issue. To me, that was the biggest thing promised about this port. Even though I personally can't really tell the difference, it's now basically useless for the tournament scene as that is (rightfully) their biggest concern.

I'm sure it came down to things like button prompts, PSN hooks, trophy support all being ready in the PS3 version so they could theoretically save time by starting with that as a a base. Obviously, they should have started with Windows, 360 or even the arcade version as a base, they all have much more in common with PS4 than the PS3 does with it's bastard processor. You get a much cleaner port with much less effort, then you add that network stuff in like any other game. Developer incompetence, or too restricting a deadline, or lack of communication with the community or all of the above.

Fix the aesthetics, fix the gui speed, fix the moves discrepancies, fix the FUCKING AUDIO, and the port will be fine for anyone outside of diehards. Nothing impossible, shouldn't be hard. I'd be willing to bet they've been working on some of this GUI and audio shit since before the game was even published. Now they have the community of unpaid laborers to point out how the moves are behaving wrong and hopefully they can trace several glitches back to a common error and it isn't as pervasive as it seems.

Also, my expensive fucking TE2 doesn't have a Touch Pad button so stop making me hold it when I wanna reserve a replay save!

It's still worth $25 to anyone who wants to play SF4 on PS4 casually with friends. A lot of content, a lot of fun.

I am not a defense force for any of the companies involved, just a lifelong SF fan. That has always been my bias. :)

Just an update while I continue counting frames (shoot me!)

I recorded 120+ tests of Ryu's stand LK using these consoles/controllers
PS4 - TE2 and DS4 pad
360 - Madcatz Silent TE, 360 pad
PS3 - OG TE, DS3 pad, Hitbox controller

I completed count frames for the Silent TE on 360 and the OG TE on PS3. My results gave 3.9f of input lag for 360
5.1f of input lag for PS3

I think my PS4 test results were probably spot on. I will continue counting frames this evening(shoot me!) and probably compile a video tomorrow morning just showing how I recorded/tested all this.

Thanks for the hard work!

So, basically it's the same as PS3, which is why some people haven't been able to feel the "massive input lag" that others have claimed.

Still, finally some proof that some of us are just "noobs who can't feel the lag". Compared to the PS3 version, its the basically the same.

Hopefully, the patch improves it further to 360 levels, though, as advertised. Though, isn't the arcade version more similar to the PS3 version, than the 360 version? Not sure why 360 is considered the "tourney standard" in that regard.

I think lowering any types of latency should always be the goal of a tournament organizer. If you could have 1 or even 0 frames of input latency, wouldn't that be desirable?

The 360 version is the only version that doesnt have the same amount of lag as the other platforms. Arcade/PS3/PC all have the same amount(And I guess now PS4). THe reason why it's the current tournament standard is simply due to popularity. When SF4 first arrived more people played on 360 vs PS3. Of course arcades weren't a thing outside of the east either, so to most the difference to them was that the PS3 version was off compared to what it should be.(like the 360 version)

You can't eliminate lag, only reduce it. the 360 version has around 4 frames of lag I think. The PC version with Vsync off or Gsync has the lowest amount of lag vs all other platforms with around 3 frames of lag.

I'm aware of that, it was a hypothetical question designed to help them understand why tournaments are run with the system that has less input latency.

Also, my expensive fucking TE2 doesn't have a Touch Pad button so stop making me hold it when I wanna reserve a replay save!

This needs to be mentioned in the OP as an issue as not everyone is going to be using a controller with a touchpad, especially for fighters. There needs to be a way around it. Fighting game developers need to take this into consideration as a lot of fighting controllers don't have them. The character select screen also requires a touchpad for quick button config. Another thing to make the tourney scene shun this port. If everyone has TE2s they can't use this feature. MKX and Xrd have work arounds for non-touchpad controllers for touchpad functions, so props to them.

But really, this highlights one of my gripes about Backbone and whatever part of them is in Other Ocean now. They just quickly crap out these ports without putting any thought into the user experience on the system it's being ported to or seemingly any knowledge of the audience. In their MvC2 ports, they totally eliminated all the extra button mapping options, which screwed over pad players, despite every old version having these, including the Dreamcast version which only had six controller buttons, but the options were still there. That irked me so much. It's was always the bare minimum with them. after watching that DF video, I want them to actually use the hi-res assets for all the effects, but at this point asking for that makes me look like some sort of obsessive nitpicker. So frustrating.

I think Sony spent all their money on money-hatting SF5 kappa. So they win in the long run.

Sorta off topic, but can someone explain to me what the whole "kappa" thing is about? I've noticed it being said all over the place in this thread and I'm super lost.

It's a twitch chat emoticon that means "troll" or JK lol. It comes from a twitch admin named Josh Kappa who added his own picture to the emoticons, and that wasn't allowed, so he got banned lol, and his name gained fame.

It's still shitty compared to GWFL...

Friend lives 5miles away matches still lag, on GFWL we had probably 5-10 laggy matches with over 2000 matches played, Steam is unstable..

When was the last time you played on PC? The fixes to netcode were implemented about 3 weeks ago.

In-game vsync? ah i've been either running it windowed with alt+enter or through the control panel

Depending on your other settings, doing it through the control panel actually adds more lag than the PS3 version. display lag had a whole article regarding different lag timings depending on how you implement vsync. If you have an AMD gpu and applied windowed vsync then the lag is comparable to the 360 version. If not then to get it to 360 levels or lower you need to either turn vsync off, have SLI, or use a gsync monitor.

Reading that summary in the OP should result in the game being pulled from PSN and from store shelves. That is legitimately a broken product.

I've already been debating if I should pick one up, but this is certainly pushing me towards a g-sync monitor. I'll stick to borderless windowed for now, thanks for the link.

ULTRA STREET FIGHTER FOUR!

stupid sound from the the controller.

how the fuck do I turn that shit off? I mean without turning it off permanently on the controller. I still have to finish Killzone and it's use off the feature...and I might forget it's off for that game too.

it keeps repeating and repeating when I leave it in the menu. urgh.

I am Korean.
I had "Version 2014" or whatever self replicating in the corner next to the 1up portrait while I was playing ranked. Had about 5 of them by the time I was done.

Your refund came in already, or they told you it would in 3-5 business days? I was issued a refund on Wednesday morning, hasn't been processed yet though. I was told 3-5 business days.

They told me 3-5 business days but I got the email notification that funds have been added to my wallet. Sure enough, it's there.

Dude what did you say I want the refund too

I bitched a lot about how the game is basically unplayable. Linked to various articles and twitter posts. They wanted me to do the redownload troubleshooting but I knew that wasn't going to help so I lied and said I did. They finally gave in.

I was going to purchase this but I didn't after reading this topic. I don't understand how something so simple can be messed up like this. If the players of the game can see all these issues how can the companies involved not see them? I can't understand how professional companies can make such bad decisions. It blows my mind.

Wow, thanks for doing this in a way that even a total fighting game beginner like me could understand.

What a joke though. I wonder why Sony was so confident that they fixed the PS3 lag when it looks like they just made it worse. Those PS4+PS3 numbers would also explain why some people reported up to 8 frames of lag.

I could see it having more input lag than the 360 version but lol at more input lag than the PS3 version. The definitive (console) version is somehow worse than the worst of the last gen console version. Reminds me of how the PS3 version of Bomberman had atrocious input lag.

And there it is.

Wait. Off topic a bit, but could somebody check the O and X button prompts on SSF4 for PS3 and see if they are off kilter as well? I have a small feeling...

Geez seems like even if everything else was ok the PS3 stick on PS4 with drivers would be out of the equation

Now just to decide if I take the plunge on a new stick now or closer to release of SFV
Then again the new stick would work on PC too, unlike my current Round 2...
Hmmm...

Where is this coming from? How do we know it's the PS3 version that was used for this port. In any case, to all those saying use the PC version, don't forget that the PC version was a mess till just recently. I'd still like to know where persons are getting the PS3 version port talk from though?

Please read DF Face-off for more info.

There are too many similarities with the PS3 version.
