VRFocus: Big Morpheus push at Sony presser, half of their booth devoted to it

I'll get excited for VR if it turns out that I can actually afford it. Until then I'll maintain my passive interest.

That's fine. It should have a big presence at the booths since that's the best place for people to experience VR and tell all their friends. Just don't spend too much time of the conference on it as it's pretty pointless since we can't experience VR through our streams.

Lot of grandpas in here. It's going to be a rough next decade for you guys.

Once I get a good grasp of what exactly this'll do in terms of aligning with my core interests as a gamer, I'll probably be more excited. I've heard of a couple of my favorite devs moving into this space, so that's something.

I'm down for this. Morpheus is the thing I'm looking forward to most with regard to my PS4. It's going to take PS4 from feeling like a 1080p version of PS3, to something genuinely new and fresh.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Hopefully it is minimal at the actual conference.

You are going to have to get over yourself. Sony is doing what sony think it is right for itself. Obviously, you already know this, but you can always turn off the conference once it gets to VR.

Not sure how they would present VR in a conference setting like that. Probably just a bunch lot of "...and it also supports Morpheus" announcements.

No thank you to VR, my reasons being I don't want to put a helmet on and be closed out to the rest of the world. Married people, and those with kids, can't really sit around for hours doing shit like that. Not interested, at all. Just give me a good controller and let me use my TV and I'm good.

The dream is real!

The wait is almost over.
Not really but we are getting there, slowly. SAO MMO...yes...

Obligatory.

To experience it first hand you have to obviously be hands on. But the idea of others observing someone play is built in to the thing with the TV split out etc. I don't think it is any more unusual than watching someone play a regular game. Harder, perhaps, to relate entirely to what the person is experiencing if one has never experienced VR before, but still quite reasonable to watch and enjoy what's going on.

I dare say watching others play in VR, and their reactions/immersion, only sparks interest in onlookers. Again, maybe I'm unusual, but I've found it interesting to watch others playing in VR, seeing them and simultaneously what they see on a screen, and I have yet to try VR myself.
I don't really find it that hard to use a bit of imagination to get a general feel of what it's like when watching others. I mean, it doesn't compare to actually doing it obviously. There's something particularly special when you're there in another world. But I'm unsure why so many people just don't get it at all.

VR doesnt mean tvs and consoles will die or go away.

Its also not a "fad" or "gimmick".

The benefit for showcasing Morpheus is that it also outputs what the user sees to a TV or whatever so it won't be much of an issue showing it on stage.

I really want to try a real VR experience. I have just try the Oculus with that simple games with low graphics and framerates.

Why?

Is it narrow minded-ness?

When i play games I like sitting around w/ my roomates/gf, sometimes have music on, etc.

I would hate to have to cut myself off from other people to game. Not too worried, i just hope focus isn't super lopsided.

I agree with this.
I mean I'm glad it's got a big presence at their booth, but at the conference I could do without seeing one guy on stage experiencing it and explaining his experiences to the audience.

Lucky then that the Morpheus mirrors the gameplay onto a screen so you can have the whole audience watch what the player is seeing.

Cant people put themselves into others shoes? I mean, you see how the guy is playing, how responsive the device is and see all the footage of what he/you will see when playing the game and thats it.

Have any of the people complaining about seeing VR on stage not watched any Youtube videos of people with the Rift and see how easy it is to get an idea of whats going on?

Well, VR only really benefits first-person content, so even if it takes off it's not like everything will be in VR (though I'm sure publishers will try).

Honestly, I'm just not excited at all for PS4 VR just because the console is (IMO) too weak to provide a good enough experience, given the high resolution and framerate requirements.

My gut feeling says the major reason half of their booth is dedicated to it is because they don't have much in terms of first party efforts to show off.

good. i'm hoping morpheus is going to rekindle my excitement for gaming. i really hope you can use it for non-vr games. i'd play something like bf4 with it using the standard controller. even without head-tracking it would still be cool to have games take up your entire field of vision. i think it would still be immersive to a large degree.

Actually, as somebody married and with kids, I'd argue that we probably shouldn't be doing anything video game related for hours straight, period. Strapping on a VR helmet isn't going to be much worse.

Of course not.

I'm pretty sure most people that talk crap about VR and call it a fad never tried it.

When you sit down and play single-player games you're closed out to the rest of the world anyway. It makes no difference.

Why not, they already have the traditional gaming market in the bag for this gen. Its a risk, but they dont have much to lose.
