Those roller coaster demos are actually pretty terrible. They are good for shock value recording a reaction video for a 1st timer, but they are not how you'd like to actually play a game or something you'd enjoy experiencing over and over more than likely.Everybody seems to go nuts over those roller coaster VR demos. And what is a rail shooter, if not a roller coaster where you just point at things? It seems to be the most obvious type of game you could make in VR.
Since it seems this thread is going to be purely discussing the price and not all the other cool info, I should say that if by 'several hundred', they mean roughly $300 including the camera and two Move controllers, then it's not unreasonable at all.
What was it like? I hadn't heard anything about it.Music VR should be $3.99 at most. Shit looked baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad at PAX, and I think it mostly uses your own MP3s.
That's how you can tell apart the people who played Heroes of Might & Magic from those who didn't.
"Sony is bringing close to 20 games"
translates to: Sony is bringing out 4 demos and shoehorning in support in five other games before leaving this overpriced toy to rot.
Wow you're bitter. Let's check back in with your post in a year or two, if you're not banned by then."Sony is bringing close to 20 games"

So you think Morpheus will be $199 before all the other stuff?
Also you are right, we should be talking about more than price. Sony has 20 games already prepped and ready. I wonder if Sony plans on launching a VR hub with Morpheus at launch.
Do you have any inside information you'd like to share with us? Otherwise everything you said is as speculative as anything else.Sorry GAF, hate to be the bearer of bad news
Funny how in the threads about the Vive, people are pledging their undying loyalty to HTC/Valve without even knowing the price.
And in the Morpheus thread it's "Fuck right off if you are charging more than $200!"
Anyways, good on Sony for pushing this properly. It's not gonna be any half-ass supported 'peripheral'. This is a proper expansion into a new medium and it's happening.
100% speculative.Do you have any inside information you'd like to share with us? Otherwise everything you said is as speculative as anything else.
Console gamers won't pay more than $400 for a console that will last them 7 years.
PC gamers pay several hundred dollars every 6 months to keep up to date.
See what im getting at?
Sony need to accept this and price it accordingly.
A $300 price point along with needing a PS4 will kill this thing dead in the water.

No mentions of new taking mechanisms? Is move really going to be it? I was hoping for some next gen shit like glove tracking. This is already revenge of the virtual boy. Might as well be revenge of the power glove too.
Well, they're demoing 20 'things' at E3 - be they games or tech demos. By the sounds of it they have about 30 games on their radar at the moment - I presume that means 30 first and third party products that are more than just prototypes, but on the table as planned product in the early stages of Morpheus's life.
Sony's not going to lose money on this product. The price of VR is high, and it costs a good deal of money to deliver a quality experience.
Sorry GAF, hate to be the bearer of bad news (edit: speculation... I'm not an insider! ), but I think 90% of you will be very disappointed tonight.
There's no way Morpheus is coming out for less than $399. I'm not even sure if that will come with the camera and whatever Move peripheral they showcase.
This is a bleeding edge product meant for early adopters that has a monopoly on the console VR market.
I'm going to place my bet at $399 standalone, $499 bundle with camera, peripheral, and a game.
I don't think there's as much need for this to sell like consoles must right out of the gate - a slower burn with sales is likely in any case because this is a brand new market to plow, so they can afford to push the price a little higher for the time being.
I think pricing it higher than the PS4 itself would be a mistake, but anything up to $399 is probably fair game.
Do you think Morpheus will have a hub that you go to when you put the headset on? Like a virtual store where you can buy and access those 30 games?
I don't think it will be that high. They will have serious issues selling a peripheral thats cost as much or more than their hardware.
299 or bust
What was it like? I hadn't heard anything about it.
Not sure if this went up early or not...

Screen from Impulse Gear tech demo, from former Zipper folks. Uses the Sharpshooter move peripheral. This isn't necessarily going to be a game, but will be behind closed doors as a demo of FPS in VR. The article goes into some detail about it.
$399 for:
Morpheus
Camera
1x Move
Would be a steal. Not expecting it, but that would be a nice package.
I dont know, but I dont think $200-250 for the headset alone is impossible at all.So you think Morpheus will be $199 before all the other stuff?
It'll be cool if Sony built in a VR-specific 'home' area where you could access/buy/demo different sorts of things in a 3D space along with some social features and settings menus and whatnot. Also you are right, we should be talking about more than price. Sony has 20 games already prepped and ready. I wonder if Sony plans on launching a VR hub with Morpheus at launch.
Or they could take a chance and try to actually make VR count this gen, being the first to do so on consoles and carrying that success forward to next gen.
Console gamers are a more price conscious lot, that shouldn't be much of a surprise.Funny how in the threads about the Vive, people are pledging their undying loyalty to HTC/Valve without even knowing the price.
And in the Morpheus thread it's "Fuck right off if you are charging more than $200!"
I really think you need 2 move controllers.$399 for:
Morpheus
Camera
1x Move
Would be a steal. Not expecting it, but that would be a nice package.
They could easily do that. Camera and Move are pretty cheap now.
