Man, this is definitely an E3 to remember! There is no doubt this will get funded. It's already halfway there! Shenmue 3 is coming guys!!! What an exciting time to be a gamer.

After Bloodstained, other Kickstarters (especially this one) feel so barebones (in terms of the Kickstarter itself, not that actual game.)

Im also concerned with the precedent this sets. Will it lead to more on stage pan handling? Whats next will Nintendo get on stage and be like "Metroid Prime 4 can be yours....if the fans cough up $20 million dollars to help us ease development costs!" Its an annoying proposition. Either announce the damn game or don't announce it.

This franchise has been MIA for 14 years...since the Dreamcast. Now its gonna get funded on PS4, on a Sony platform no one ever visioned.

Its special projects like these that need fan backing to get made or get partial funding. Without Sony (or 1 of the 3) throwing Yu support or Kickstarted, you can keep dreaming of Shunmue 3 ever coming out.

I was going to post this...

People shouldn't expect the same game as the first 2, first 2 games were grand i expect something smaller just so fans can finish the story, everyone spoke in the first 2 games, i expect a lot of text chat with this budget, the overall experience for this game won't be the same IMO..

This is true. I expect a more focused and shorter experience, without a doubt. Probably not voiced and no big city to explore. What would be the point, really? Those were groundbreaking elements in 1999 but are now relatively commonplace in the open world genre. This is about getting closure for fans that have will have waited 16 years for it. It was a special game for a special console released in a special time in gaming's history. It'll be amazing to see it end regardless.

I've had Shenmue 2 sitting here for over a decade, but I never followed through to pick up the first game. I imagine that the DVD that came with 2 on the xbox isn't the ideal way to experience that, eh?

Time to hop on ebay and bust out the Dreamcast.

I honestly have faith we'll see a kickstarter Shenmue 3 at some point within the next few years. Yu Suzuki has hinted it too many times in interviews this year for me to believe nothing will happen. You can tell it bothers him he never got the greenlight to finish the series due to various circumstances out of his hands.

I believe something will happen via kickstarter to finish the story line, whether game, or comic. I don't care just let me know what happens. But I know the second a kickstarter happens it will break records for kickstarter games.

Called it, and the FF7 remake plus TLG. All announced within an hour though? Holy fucking shit.

My only problem is that open world games have improved massively since the last Shenmue came out. So I don't think it would be wise releasing the first two as they have aged badly and could put people off buying the third game.

I disagree; the open-world aspect of Shenmue still holds up today. It's mainly certain aspects of the graphics (the townfolk have terribad textures) and the voice acting that really needs to be redone.

The world itself is masterfully designed and still holds up, because it is based on a real location and has things happening at different times of the day. I feel more immersion in Shenmue's world than I have with any Assassin's Creed. This is my own personal feeling, of course.

I texted my friend. We played FFVII and Shenmue I and II together as teens. Shenmue II was the last thing we played before he moved a few states away, even though we kept in close contact.

He is losing his shit too.

I'm shocked people are acting like this is funding slowly. Yooka Laylee was the fastest game to 1m and it took six hours. This is breaking 1m in under 2 hours. You downplayers are hatin' hard.

I still cannot believe this is happening. Though I have to be honest.. I kind of wish we were getting S1 and 2 remasters. :(

CAnt believe 2 million is enough to make Shenmue 3, are they hoping to make the rest of the money through stretch goals, or is Sony really going to fund them after all ?

This is going to wind up smashing all sorts of records. The crow eating is going to be glorious.

Sorry if this has been asked, but the thread is long and my computer just got back from repair. I have been out of the loop.

Is Sega involved with this in some manner? Did Yu buy the rights? Or did Sega just give him their blessing?

I know they were cool about him making that mobile Shenmue years ago.

I feel like this is dream, too good to be true.

Edit: Oh shit!!! This is Sony's undertaking???

You like me, you really really like me!
Fuckin' Sony restoring my faith in gaming tonight..

It may be time for me to pick up a next-gen system finally. Last Guardian, FF7, No Man's Sky, Uncharted 4 and fuckin SHENMUE III. Mother of jeez.

2 mil is just to see if people really want the game and see if it's worth the invest. Sony will most likely fund the rest if the kickstart meets the goal.

I'm actually doubting that as it goes along. The inclusion of stretch goals to expand the size of the game seems a little odd.

I get a sense this will be an indie game and not the Shenmue people are looking for. Just a game to complete the saga, not what the first two were.

Targeting $30 for a copy of the game is a little light, no?

Also, we are currently sitting at 10k copies sold. People are throwing money at this game, but for a publisher to step into this they have to believe that they will sell enough copies to people whom aren't funding it.

Gonna hit 1 mill total raised in just a couple of hours. Wow. They should have done this YEARS ago.

Dear Brothers of Shenmue, The Last Guardian and FFVII Remake GAF.

In our finest hour, under a united banner we willed a miracle in to existence.

Let it be forever remembered that this banner was created BEFORE the Sony Conference by fellow brothers.

Let us not forget this day, for this call to arms may be needed once again.
