Official Square Enix E3 Hype Video

Those key people who worked on Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross can still work on a hypothetical Chrono sequel as contractors. That's a nonissue.

What are the chances of a new Level-5 console RPG? I just started playing Ni no Kuni this week and I need those guys on PS4.

I actually feel differently than this. I see people talk about how there can't be a new Chrono game since the old team is gone. They all left the company and went on with their own pursuits. So is Square never to make a Chrono game again because their employees left?

I think they can and probably should. I want to see sequels to their older classics even if the original team is gone. It doesn't mean it will be automatic garbage if new people work on it.

Look at Star Wars. George Lucas is no longer involved. New directors and storytellers are taking it over and I think a lot of good things will come of it. The same can be for gaming sequels.

Not everything has to have a bunch of sequels. It gets a little ridiculous sometimes. Why not just leave the property and respect it for what it was.

Watching the talent CT had on staff is mindblowing...
Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, Masato Kato, Akihiko Matsui, Takashi Tokita, Yoshitake Kitase, Akira Toriyama, Yusuke Naora, Tetsuya Takahashi, Yasuyuki Honne, Tetsuya Nomura, Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu.

I feel like I just listed the name of the best JRPG devs of all-time and they were all on the same game. "Dream Team" nickname deserved!

Maybe if we're lucky we'll get a Chrono sequel on the 3DS. No way they'll invest the time/money on anything next-gen.

I wouldn't even mind a Chrono Cross 3DS port at this point. I have to be realistic with myself.

I'd settle for almost anything in terms of a sequel or another spiritual successor. As long as it's not a mobile game.
Mobile sequel confirmed.

Wow! I hope it is Ni no Kuni 2 but I think it will be Dragon Quest XI. :/

Actually, it's probably neither.

We heard nothing of L5 working with Ghibli (and they've been doing less stuff lately too), and DQ will never get a western reveal, since that series gets their own event in Japan.

If I had to guess I'd say it's either something new like Rogue Galaxy/White Knight Chronicles, or a big Yokai Watch-type game.

Now when I watch the conference if I don't see anything Chrono, it will break my heart. The fact that they used this music before really drives it home. Don't pull this stunt Square. Instead, why not use music from something you intend to show that might be obvious to people. I missed the FF7 PS4 thing last time due to work. I won't miss this one.

Is Tidux a legit insider? Because he teased Ni No Kuni 2 a while back, so did Thuway. No idea what their track record is though.

Are you sure? I searched Dragon Quest XI and they say they want it to be a console game for 2016. Could they really be trying to make "an epic game that exceeds the scale of White Knight Chronicles" along with a mainline console Dragon Quest game?

Rogue Galaxy and DQVIII were developped ar the same time. So did DQIX and White Knight Chronicles.

I'm pretty sure they have 2 HD teams on top of their numerous handheld/mobile teams.

And for all we know DQ could be developped internally by S-E or by another company (Artepiazza?)

This is now my second most hyped conference (Sony is first).

Just to be clear, I wasn't implying that DQXI could be at S-E's conference. That's actually very unlikely considering the last few DQ mainline titles have been announced at dedicated events in Japan.

The only thing we know for sure is that Level-5's new PS4 title will be at E3.

Also, according to an interview made by FFWorld with Matsuda (S-E's CEO), Square-Enix has a surprise JRPG announcement to be made "at or around E3". Make of that what you want!

No one knows if he is still at SE anymore.
Around 2 years ago, Shinji Hashimoto said he was still at S-E and planning some stuff. I thunk that's the last we heard from him along with Guardian's Cross.

Worth noting that Level 5's game will probably appear on Sony's conference instead of SE's (unless SE is the publisher).

No one knows if he is still at SE anymore.
Don't worry, Ito is one of the people that WILL get news talking about him if he leaves.

But apparently Janitors are well paid in Japan, so maybe he doesn't intend to leave.

Here's a recent picture of him

Stop. People need to get over this already.

No they don't. The fans clearly want it, and have wanted it for years. Just because Square is clueless and refuses to cater to their dedicated audience doesn't mean that audience should stop asking for their dream game.

Uh, Yuji Horii did the main writing on Chrono Trigger, didn't he? He's still around, although I wager he's busy working on Dragon Quest 11 at the moment... Ditto Akira Toriyama, although he's tied up with DB Super.

Yuji Horii did the story concept. He basically handed ideas, notes and charts to Square (possibly by fax). Masato Kato was the main writer at Square's office.

Horii stated in an interview that he personally doesn't want to do another Chrono game, because anything he'd like to do can be done in a Dragon Quest game anyway. He said that he wouldn't mind playing a new Chrono game made by other people, though.

We should hire a private detective in Japan to find out what is happening to him.

I would help founding this idea xD
but Ito is not a big public person like Kitase or Toryama. There are not many interviews of him even when he was in charge as the FF XII director.
The last interview of him was last year before the PS4 launch in Japan.

If something Chrono is not released after that song...I will be so pissed.

Yep, you hit it on the head. It is crazy to me how out of touch Square Enix is with its western audience...either that or they don't care. I am sure they know the west wants a another Chrono game big time. Yet, they throw on the theme music for their hype video with, I am sure, no intention to release a Chrono game. It's just like they did last year.

They keep upsetting their fan base and they seem oblivious to it. A couple of examples:

  • FF7 PC Re-release: They know people desperately want a new FF7 game, either remastered or remade. Then they say they are releasing the PC version for PS4. Its still a running meme/joke and I am sure it will be for many years to come.
  • Bravely Default: Square was honestly shocked that this game sold so well in the west. Really Square? We've been saying we want that type of game for years.

I am praying that he is working on FF XVI in the shadows.

There's a long analysis floating around somewhere (GameFAQS, or an independent blog) from someone who believes exactly that. The main thrust of their argument is that Ito has hinted at ideas he has had for a game which is large in scope, and other high level SQEX employees have confirmed that Ito is working on something. That doesn't necessarily mean FFXVI (could be another IP), but given the relatively recent conversion of FFvXIII to FFXV, you have to imagine that SQEX was at least in the pre-production stage on what was originally intended to be FFXV but is now FFXVI.

Putting these thoughts together, it is easy to imagine that Ito is directing FFXVI as we speak, but I can't imagine SQEX confirming anything until it is closer to release.

Speaking of FFXV, I'm curious about the implications of the massive investment in its engine. They moved to Unreal for KH3, but I wonder if they will try to milk Luminous at all?

Be still, my beating heart.

Tidux is considered a joke. He knows nothing as far as insider info goes.

Actually, doesn't he know quite a bit? Pretty sure he teased PSX before it was even announced. He's shaky, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he knows nothing.

I also wouldn't count NNK2 out of the realms of possibility, especially with how well it did in the west. It's the kind of thing Level-5 needs to build their presence overseas.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.

That's the power of really, really wishing something true, i fear.

Also, i don't really miss him as a battle designer - IX \ XII \ T were amazing, but so were X and XIII, battle wise.

However, as Director, he has a track record of IX and XII. That's a completely insane track record - and since he's credited for "Battle design, Game design, and Director" of XII, i'd guess he's the one who pushed for Gambits.

... Get me a FF Ito. I'll preorder it blind.

Like i don't do that with all FFs.

That's the power of really, really wishing something true, i fear.

The guy in question actually goes much further than just wishing; he routinely creates fake quotes and fake interview translations (really easy to do since a lot of Ultimania interviews have never been translated even decades later) in order to spread false information in the "hope" that Square Enix will react and release a real statement on Ito or the supposed FFXVI. He was banned from Wikipedia several times for this as well as general bias in overemphasizing Ito's importance and putting Kitase in a bad light.

It's a shame because there really is a mystery about Ito's current project(s).

this.
I love Ito's work a lot (FF IX the most) but that guy is a huge fanboy and the most important points of his analysis, where he likes to prove that Ito is directing FF XVI, are personal "face to face" interviews with Kitase, Toryama, Uematsu, etc...
