We have reached our funding goal of $2 million!

I wonder how the revelation that
Lan Di killed Iwao for the same type of revenge that Ryo wants to kill Lan Di for
will affect Ryo.

Iwao's death is one of the best in gaming, cheesy voice acting be damned.

I need this to be a ridiculous success so someone gives Suzuki a ton of money to make new games. He's a master and he's almost completely out of the game. Truly a shame.

I get the feeling this could jump start Yu Suzuki's career. I said before that it feels like he's unblackballing himself.

The world needs more Yu Suzuki. He's one of gaming's greatest auteurs, and we've already lost a decade and a half of his brilliance.

Sony could, but they weren't going to. It wasn't happening. Some of us have been wanting this for 14 years. After 14 years nothing was happening. Who cares if Sony didn't fund it, it's a game I've wanted to see for years and my money can help it happen. More than happy to donate.

I really hope it does jumpstart his career. Yu Suzuki really needs to make more games again.

Why did he vanish, beyond Sega sucking? Dude needs to up held up there with Miyamoto.

Wow, I just bought Shenmue 2 like a month ago too, but I quit playing cause having to fight/dodge people in rings to save a certain person killed my interest. How much more of the game is there left? I should probably finish it.

Are you trying to get into the Yellowhead building? That's probably the last third of the game.

Going back to archive my facebook messaging with my friend during the conference were just all shenmue jokes after Last Guardian

"I smell Shenmue in the air" to little laughs having known my wait for years but stating "starting to feel like anything is possible" after Guardian. Then conceding "but I mean FFVII as unlikely as that is makes more sense than Shenmue by wide margin, cause the financial gain at hand". Doubtful for FFVII, to "no way holy fuck" as that happened. And in the stir "What the fuck" "Shenmue....". Greatness

Getting Yu back in the game is even more important than Shenmue to me. He's a legend.

Yeah, that part.

Making money in Shenmue 2 kind of sucks mostly cause it seems a lot money making activities can take your money which I hate. Other than crate moving of course.
And I have like $20 so it's either do perfect in the ring the first time, go and make money which I didn't feel like doing, or reset the console....so I was like "pfffft, I'm done maybe I'll play it later". And I was really enjoying the game up to that point too. Took the game to a screeching halt.

Shenmue was sega's biggest saturn project, it was going to be the system defining game, their top budget project. They scrapped it, and redid everything they had done before again on the dreamcast. For two entire generations, it was sega's biggest project.

It didnt tank, but it would have had to have sold more copies than dreamcasts existed to recoup its cost

The top at sega blamed their downfall on yu suzuki. He got window seated and wasnt allowed to really work on anything for the next 14 years.

Yesterday, he came back.

As far as things I never thought would happen, Shenmue 3 is up there with Duke Nukem Forever getting released and Nintendo dominating with the Wii.

The video game industry is a weird place. I wonder if it will keep being unpredictable.

I know the footage is a quick something just to raise backer funds, but boy does it look rough! They still managed to get $100 out of me on nostalgia alone. I really hope Yu knows what he is doing after 14 years.

This was really one of the biggest mysteries in the industry since Suzuki made it clear he still wanted to make games. How the hell did someone with his track record have a hard time finding people to fund his games?

I explained this to normal-ish people like this: Imagine George RR Martin died today (without the rest of his series being published). Then imagine, 14 years later, it is announced he was alive the whole time and the last two books are coming out.

I have never been so excited for any other piece of entertainment.

Yeah. I am a huge Shenmue nut but even I had to rub vaseline into my eyes to view that as anything other than rough as fuck.

I don't know who those people are but they are not Ryo and Shenhua @_@

So glad this is coming out for PC. When it was rumored a long time ago that if it were being to be released, it'd be PS4 exclusive, I was almost willing to pay that console paywall to play it! Can't wait for the mods for this game.

Yay, 2.6M reached! Agree with everyone that is happy that Shenmue 3 comes to PC. Also hope that it can come to other formats such as Xbox One. The more potential customers the better!

This is quite a bit like when, years after his death, they released nirvana's lost hit "you know you're right" and it instantly shot up the charts.
