You should've marketted it. Then you could totally be having a bro down right now.

Holy shit! My Dreamcast still works. Even the fucking VMU thing still works. Probably hasn't been used for 5 years and looked to be in a pretty sorry state, but it lives! Going to have to a Shenmue runthrough soon before it does decide to die.

There's something comforting about the high pitch scream of a VMU with no batteries.

No problem, there's always another Dreamcast should the one that you have croaks.

For a lot cheaper, too! :)

Fuuuuuck Shenmue on DC is so damn expensive now. Why do I ever sell my games!? I still have Shenmue 2 and my xbox so maybe I'll just play it since I never beat that.

Is there still no decent way to emulate Shenmue on PC?

Last time I tried a few years ago it had a huge amount of graphical glitches e.g. Ryo's hair was missing.

So after last night's announcement I decided to stop by a local mom and pop store here after work today to see if they had the Xbox version of Shenmue II. I was pretty skeptical they'd have it, as usually they are pretty terrible, but:

Holy shit they had it. Both discs are in good shape, though no manual. However, it was only 9.99 compared to 25 or more on ebay, and I'm sure prices are going to start rising due to Shenmue 3.

Hopefully, my dreamcast and the first one are still in a box at my dad's.

Oh they will. I'm sure of it. Sega can practically taste the money now

It's actually pretty incredible the way things are turning out. I was always half-excited, half-dreading the inevitable (or so I thought) HD collection, as I imagined it would cause the permanent death of Shenmue 3 when it didn't sell up to SEGA's standards.

Now, Shenmue 3 is coming, and it has likely caused a Shenmue HD collection to be released that will sell better than it ever would have due to increased interest and the fact that people know a 3rd one is coming.

I dunno if it's kosher to talk about here, but has anyone played Shenmue Undub? For all intents and purposes it replaces the English VOs with the Japanese ones and still retains English subtitles.

Where's that gif of someone sitting up from the coffin at a funeral with all the guests being shocked? It usually had Iwata in it, but this one needs Shenmue.

I'm still in a state of shock that I missed the actual announcement. I've been waiting for so many years and it happened while I was sleeping...

It was incredible seeing it in the theater in Columbus, Ohio. I'm a pretty calm person and I audibly made a huge gasping sound as soon as I heard the music. I don't even know how the rest of the theater reacted because I was totally zoned in on the screen haha.

What's the reaction/concensus been on Sony promoting the kickstarter? I know some people are very critical that Sony didn't just fund it. Do we have official word on Sony's involvement?

Will we see it come to Xbox?

So people are totally OK with this being funded via Kickstarter? Fascinating.
Sitting there in the theater, I was happy to see the game return, but at the same time I was uncomfortable with the idea of a Kickstarter at Sony's presentation.

So we, the game players, should take on the risk of funding a game because publishers don't want to? How far does this go?

This is almost guaranteed to be the biggest KS evar.

If Sega dosn't release Shenume HD collection, then they are fucking stupid.

SEGA already confirmed this numerous times over. I just hope we get a decent remaster, because they would be genuinely insane to never get round to making one. Needs 16:9 support and better textures etc. Wouldn't be a simple job and they're lazy/have no money...

So don't contribute if you don't want to take the risk. No one's forcing you. But it's either players take the risk or no Shenmue 3. Your choice.

Well, at this point it's not like it matters. It's a done deal.

I probably won't back this like I've backed many other things though. First because I don't need to, but second because I can't play it on whatever platform I choose, be it the Vita, the Wii-U, or whatever.

I've played it. It works well, though there's an occasional mismatch between what's being said in Japanese and what it was translated into for the dub. Can be annoying if you know just enough Japanese to get the gist of what they're saying.

You take issue with Shenmue III being on kickstarter but you've backed many other things? What?

So has there been any unveiling of how the money is going to be spent? I think I would be less cautious if the promo video were better and they had presented a more straightforward budget breakdown.

Any article that tries to solve why is such a game being Kickstarted ?

I just want a link to throw in the face of people who are yelling "SCANDAL" all over the place.

Well obviously, but is that mentality healthy for the business? Is it right for Sony to stand up there on stage touting the Kickstarter? What exactly are they taking credit for?

well they should be given credit for whatever support they lend, first of all, sharing their stage that they paid I'm sure a healthy amount for as free advertising for the dude was pretty damn nice to start with....

If I had a business and someone gave me a commercial during the NBA finals I'd be pretty damn happy about it.

How the hell would it cost $400k to add subtitles in 4 different languages? Get someone who speaks them all and bam.

teh fuck. it doesnt make a difference if 4 people do it at the same time or if 1 person does it and takes 4 times as long, does it now.....?

Publishers have had a fucking decade to fund the game. They haven't. When that's the case, let the fans help make the game a reality. I don't understand why you feel Sony was out of line by facilitating something that a lot of people want. It may still be too niche for them to step in say "okay, we're publishing this" without fully gauging interest, but that doesn't mean they don't have a major hand in the development. They're likely to contribute a lot to this game.

Also, helping fund the game (if you pay $30 or more) gets you a digital copy. So it's not like you're just donating to the project. You get something in return.

Also, nobody is forcing you to contribute. If you don't care about the fate of the series, don't contribute. That simple.

Textures and 16:9 are big, but, and 'm getting way ahead of myself, as I know that there is noooo way that this would ever happen because SEGA, but it would be incredible if Shenmue 3 could accept a Shenmue II HD save file and continue on with inventory (as much as could be licensed for 3 as far as the capsule toys, etc., goes)

That's literally every game Kickstarter.
