?...was there a goal for french subtitles or something lol..?
Yeah Gio said something along the lines of: "we set a goal of $2 million, and said that if we hit that mark, we would absolutely make this a reality." I'm assuming the last "we" refers to Sony.
Sony and Playstation are partners throughout development. Third party productions will work with Suzukis team to get the game done. And Shenmue 3 was #1 on the build the list
I know nothing about this stuff, but what does #1 on the build list mean?
Sorry for being dense, but why the hell would Sega allow a sequel to be made, and have Yu Suzuki direct it?
What can you tell me about the four wudu?
I wouldn't necessarily say that. I'm not sure of how Third Party Productions works, but for example, pubfund titles are free to go to other platforms after a set period of exclusivity. I would say the chances are probably pretty low.
Gio Corsi just confirmed that with the successful KS, Sony is now officially partnering with Yu Suzuki's team on Shenmue 3 with development assistance
Yeah they just reached it, it was $2.7 Million
Can they not release Shenmue 1 and 2 for the PC?
It seems like that would help people understand it. I never owned a Dreamcast and I missed it on Xbox.

I sent a message to them on Kickstarter awhile back saying exactly that. Hopefully they add more tiers soon while fire is still hot.
Yes it came out on Xbox later, but man. The heartburn. To our Sega fans,
First, I want to thank the legion of loyal Sega fans for their unwavering enthusiasm and support over the past years - your dedication has truly been invaluable.
As you all undoubtedly know, this year Sega is transitioning from a hardware manufacturer into a platform-agnostic third party publisher. During this change, Sega has had to make some very difficult business decisions, including the cancellation of Shenmue II for Dreamcast in the U.S. market.
I realize that this announcement is a difficult one for many people to swallow, and I sincerely apologize. While I cannot detail all of the reasons that led up to this decision, I can tell you that it was made with the long-term interests of Sega fans in mind. No matter how difficult it seems, I want you to understand that any difficult choices that are made during this transition time are based on one bottom line: ensuring the longevity of beloved Sega franchises, including Shenmue. Sega is working hard to make the necessary decisions to drive our business forward while at the same time continuing to support our loyal fans.
Although the company may be changing -- we are still Sega. Although the ride has sometimes been rocky, our promise to our fans is this: We will continue to push the boundaries of gaming with new content and technology. We will continue to deliver new and innovative games. We will continue to put out the games that no one else can. We will continue to be Sega and bring you only the best that gaming has to offer.
Bear with us - the ride is going to get a lot smoother...
Best Regards,
Peter Moore
President & COO, Sega of America

Well fuck me, who thought they would actually listen to that one?
If they're assisting I'm guessing this isn't coming to XB1 then..?
That's Sega's decision. Currently they only licensed the Shenmue IP out for Shenmue 3.

Thanks buddy, I did not know they were made at the same time, I was trying to find some production history on wiki but found nothing.A sequel as in Shenmue II? Shenmue I and II (and parts of III) were all made at the same time. In fact, if you go back and look at old Saturn Shenmue footage, there are bits that are shown that weren't seen in Shenmue I or II on the dreamcast, indicating they had gotten quite far into Shenmue III before they scrapped everything for the dreamcast.
If you mean "why would sega allow yu suzuki to direct shenmue 3, today" then the answer is because they don't care about shenmue at all. They were never, ever going to produce a sequel. They are letting Yu Suzuki do all this on his own, because why the hell not?

Yep, people gotta realize, Sega owns complete rights to Shenmue 1 & 2. Its up to us, to let them know we want these games remastered.

They just said as much on the Sony stream. They are committed to making the game happen, and partnering with YsNet.

Any chance we might see Shenmue 1 and 2 re-released?
Shenmue II has the greatest QTE sequence of any game I've ever played.
I am, of course, speaking about the Anti-QTE.
PC is my main but i have been waiting so fucking long i backed it twice. Got the capsule PC and physical PS4.NICE. Thanks for shipping on PC too though, thats my platform.
High marks to Sony for being awesome like that.
Already nearing 3 million. Dear lord.
I think all those other scenes when it was still Virtua Fighter RPG or Project Berkley or something will probably make an appearance in Shenmue 3. Transitioning to the Dreamcast , they probably even built out more assets than what we got with the 2 games. We had an EGM magazine back then that had a lot of screenshots showing areas from both 1 and 2 (and probably future planned sequels) before Shenmue 1 was even releasedA sequel as in Shenmue II? Well, I think it's more accurate to say that they listened to the $2.7 million raised in under 24 hours.
naw, clarify your statement. I clearly was talking about the team behind the game, and you're nuts if AM2 isn't synonymous with 90's sega in your mind.
Shenmue was sega's biggest saturn project, it was going to be the system defining game, their top budget project. They scrapped it, and redid everything they had done before again on the dreamcast. For two entire generations, it was sega's biggest project.
It didnt tank, but it would have had to have sold more copies than dreamcasts existed to recoup its cost
The top at sega blamed their downfall on yu suzuki. He got window seated and wasnt allowed to really work on anything for the next 14 years.
Yesterday, he came back.

Why are they knee capping the kickstarter
Physical ps4 - 100
Should be an option at least
Also the insane people high tiers are already gone. Come on Suzuki. We need a 20k option.
The kickstarter project FAQ says there won't be a physical PS4 copy, but hopefully they are smart enough to make that a stretch goal later, or make a new tier for it. I'd bet if they made a $500 PS4 physical collectors edition with emulated prequels it'd sell a silly amount of copies.
not that i care (the more that can play it, the better) but it makes me wonder, if sony is co-funding this game & helping out with development, then why is there also a pc Version?
Shouldn't the Ps4 Version atleast be Time exclusive from a business point
I know this also happened with SFV - but whats the reason behind it?

I hope they go full crazy
Sony official backing the development is great news, I am sure they will give Yu Suzuki access to some of their top tier first party dev teams.
I feel like Shenmue II aged way better for that very reason. It's way more action packed and faster moving.
