I say this as someone who despised QTE's this generation. This is a terrible, terrible advice. Unlike other QTE's, the QTE's act as tutorials for fighting mechanics, not to mention they are properly implemented utilizing the correct buttons that represent the onscreen action. To take it away would eliminate a crucial aspect of the game series unless they find some unique feature to replace it.

They showed a clip of them using the default UE4 third person player actor moving around the test level. That would mean Ryo would control pretty much like any normal 3rd person character, now.

Scored a sealed Dreamcast 5 years ago. I've only used it once. Also have both Shenmues in great condition. Paid next to nothing for the Dreamcast. $1100 is ridiculous.

He's answered that question in interviews. He's said that it's not in his hands because Sega owns those games. He'd like to see it happen, but he has no control over it for that reason.

With an arcade game, you are restricted to a 3 minute window to express what the game is. That is how I made games for the longest time. I wanted to create a game that could be played at a more leisurely pace, so I created what ended up being Shenmue.
Shenmue is defined around its use of QTEs and the Anti-QTEs (the barber sequence in Shenmue II). Some talk about using the mechanics better is welcome especially where you will need to pay attention to the surroundings or conversations. These do take away some of the mindless 'must push now' of QTEs.
My EU Shenmue II is still one of my prized possessions RIP Dreamcast. Should bring it out again soon to replay it for the third time.
