Ok someone should really start a topic about the new of Shenmue 3 funding (5/10 split, famitsu article). Because if this version has to be cut down because of less funds and fans don't like it ... maybe the fake outrage against sony could stop Shenmue 4 from being made.

Just make it “Shenmue III needs 10 million to be fully realized though individual backers, not Sony”.
It needs to be clear that 10 million is the goal.
hope these go up soon. i'm ready to up my pledge to around $1000. even if there aren't any $1000 tiers i may just do it anyway.

That's bitter sweet. As awesome as the Dreamcast was, it was the failure of Shenmue that killed his career at that company.

okay so it's looking like we're all going to have to get really involved in getting the word out about how much funding this actually needs as well as dispelling myths and lies about the status of funding.
not only that but we need to get through to awesome japan that the kickstarter is lacklustre and really needs some social media pizazz to liven it up some.

10 million is not happening unless it generates 3 million plus in the final days,

this is absolutely baffling and infuriating. a company like sony promoting and funding a large part of the game is the best case scenario that everyone could have and should have hoped for.
is having no corporate involvement seriously a better option than ending up with a fraction of what the game could have been otherwise?
They really need a gimmick to keep the funding going.
Maybe the capsule toys could be an idea, like, let people design some or the like.
Again, Star Citizen sold ships, plus it's sort of a flagship title for PC gamers, since it has all those graphical bells and whistles.

Man, 10 million... I am happy we're even getting a game but I would love to see Yu Suzuki's vision for this game reach its fullest potential. Would Pay-pal make that much more of a difference? Do pay-pal users have deeper pockets than those with credit cards? Or is this more a privacy issue? More options for payment is still a good idea, I'm just curious about the pay-pal angle.

Thanks! This is the answer I was looking for. That makes a lot of sense. Heck, even my Japanese credit card is fairly useless on purchases online on non Japanese based websites. I have to fall back on my US one all the time.
I hope they allow pay-pal even though they will take a cut. I would hope the losses from the cut pay-pal takes would negate the overall increase in funds.

- Open a thread on GAF with all the relevant information about funding so the facts a clear
- Spam twitter and get a hashtag trending
- Contact everyone who works at a magazine or owns a blog to spread the message
- Get the team to add Paypal donations for countries with less credit card owners
- Contact Sony about a Physical PS4 release tier or something like that. Show that mean it when you say you care!

right, so i guess we need to source the information about the funding. the famitsu article is the biggest one isn't it? that's where yu says the majority of the money is coming from kickstarter and 2 million is only the barebones experience
i don't really know much about the press stuff. anybody here got any contacts?
i guess a twitter campaign to adam boyes/yoshida/john drake/gio corsi about the ps4 physical version is the best way to get that locked up
as for the hashtag, we've already got #saveshenmue associated with the campaign. we could try getting the shenmue twitter accounts mobilised
who's going to make the thread? nobody should jump straight into it. it needs to be well organised and full of information and sources. the title needs to hammer home the sony thing and that the game needs more money.
Choubu is what he was referring to when he said there will be areas like those in Japan and China, I think. That's really what I wanted to hear - a classic Shenmue area. Now we just need to reach that (unknown) stretch goal.

It should also be known that Kickstarter was Suzuki's choice, not Sony "forcing" fans to pay for the game or gauging interest.
He's probably waiting to see how much he can get from kickstarter first. There's no point in saying he'll continue through paypal right now when it's only been a few days since this happened.
