Game looks fantastic. Still curious as to why she's hunting mechanic dinosaurs in the game. Is she harvesting some kind of material/weapon? Has this been explained?

Think one of the guys from Guerilla (Mark Norris?) that Aloy is on a quest, probably collecting some of the green tanks from the small Dinos

God's had his chance.
Wasn't anyone else delighted at her agility on display when she jumped between those two rocks? Something about the fluidity of movement when she lands and then hops down the other side portrayed someone absolutely adept at moving through this beautiful world.

And then the dino fucking destroys the rocks anyways!! :D

so good.

Hey GAF!

Mark Norris, Senior Producer on Horizon Zero Dawn here. I just wanted to say thanks so much for the kind words from many of you on the thread here so far, and that some of your questions (but definitely not all!) will be answered over the course of the next couple days.

One thing I can confirm for you is that every single shot in the demo video was taken from in-game, and those locations are discoverable over the course of your journey.

I'll let you get back to the regularly scheduled speculation :)

I totally missed this amidst all the hype this week! Ahhh!!

I gotta say, I'm utterly blown away by how beautifully Aloy and her world have been developed. Not only graphically and gameplay-wise, but also in representation. She's powerful, smart, and caring. I love seeing and hearing her interact with the environment around her (I think the voice acting is perfect). It's a big step in the right direction on pretty much all fronts. The moment I saw the trailer I knew this game was going to be something big. I can't wait to play it, and I'm super stoked to see what else is inspired by this incredible project, both from Guerrilla and other game studios :)

New Dutch preview reiterates what we've known, but it's good to read again. Dynamic weather system, 1080p at 30 FPS, starting section is a closed area with a tutorial phase (no idea how the writer found this out, maybe they were just told), you fight Thunderjaws because they attack nearby tribes, somewhat-destructable environments (trees and rocks). Much of the story is still unknown.

I don't like her hair.

It looks wonderfully tribal. And isn't dreads at all. If i could braid hair like that girls got goin on my daughter would worship me.

I can't wait to see the rest of her specific tribe as well. I'm curious what kind of visual aesthetic each individual group is gonna have.

Hi Mark, don't know if you can answer, but putting it out there. Will there be high enough difficulty levels so Aloy gets one shot killed? I want to feel a little scared to face such large beasts.

Also, we learnt that Aloy was level 12 in the demo. Do the creatures we fight have levels too, or are they fixed based on type?

The best thing about this reveal was some proper meaty gameplay and no bullshit cgi. Fair enough it could be downgraded but boy did it look like fun.

It's Sony 1st party - not to mention Guerilla Games. If anything it's got a solid chance to look even better when it drops.

Please git hype.

I've just noticed ho worn the thunderjaws were in the reveal video. Sparks, spears everywhere.

I wonder what kind of tribe did they engage earlier.

Also, night battles should be the most difficult ones. I hope they make nights properly dark. (unless it's full moon ofc)

Watching this trailer again and I've noticed that the spear weapon does the very video gamey thing of disappearing when you're not using it ...

really hope that maybe that's an early build trait and not indicative of the final release. Really wanna see all her gear loaded up on the model while we mob around this big open world. Dragon's Dogma style.

But again... tiny little complaint to think of while I watch this trailer for like the 20th time! :D

This is just guesswork of course, but I think we got a glimpse of the different tribes in the preview. Each one has a distinct look and environment.

This one sort of reminds me of Northwest Native Americans.

Kind of a Scottish Highlands look.

I think these are Aloy's people.

And she mentions a tribe powerful as kings when the trailer show that large fortress city. They're probably more advanced looking. Maybe something like this leaked concept art. They seem to fit the aesthetic of the city.

They confirmed that it's a song specifically for the game. That song at least was composed by Joris de Man (composer for KZ1-3).

Awesome. That was a great piece.

I'm still amazed the they actually managed to translate the leaked concept art we saw perfectly to in-game visuals. Just sublime.

Me too man, I remember saying that before the reveal, just incredible that they really did it.

Seems like a lot of inspiration from The Last of Us.

You won't only be fighting traditional enemies (zombies/robots), you will also be competing with other humans.

Too bad no multiplayer or coop though. I find that really extends replay value for me. Look at The Order 1886 and how quickly it was forgotten.

It really is amazing, isn't it? I seriously can't wait to see more footage. And to play it, of course.

Guerrilla has never been a favorite developer of mine. I was never a big fan of the Killzone series, although I felt it had potential (mostly never utilized).

But this is... wow. They really should have been allowed to work on non-Killzone shit for a long time. If they can nail the mechanics, it legitimately might be one of the best open world RPG/action games of all time. I adore Monster Hunter, and that's one of their main inspirations? I actually left the MH series because I was tired of it being stuck on last-gen systems tech-wise. So this is amazing. Be still, my steady heart.

It's not that, GG needed more time to make their game. 18 to 20 months with complex MP just isn't enough for their vision. Just look at KZ2. Basically a 3 year cycle vs KZ 3 and SF which had 18 month to be int he oven.

I feel you man. I actually really like the Killzone series, but Horizon is so much more interesting. For one, it's 3rd person, which I vastly prefer over first person, and then it's an RPG, which is one of my favorite game genres. All the other info that's trickled out is just icing on an already delectable cake.

I've never really played a Monster Hunter game outside of like 30mins of Frontier on PSP, but I've always thought the games looked like the type I would really enjoy. And yeah, I wish there was a MH developed for more current hardware as I'd probably have seriously played one by now. I did play Binary Domain and am currently playing Dragon's Dogma which are also inspirations, and I love both. The latter of which I'm still playing through and is one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

I share those sentiments. I enjoyed the Killzone series (2, Mercenary, SF, did not like 3 too much), but was never a fan or hooked. (They did have amazing art though, and that shines more so in this game.)

I never played MH, do you have a recommendation on the best one so I can get an idea?

This game is just hitting all the right notes to me.

There are a lot of people who also did not like one of the greatest fps's of last gen KZ2 :(. though.

The dust, smoke, the atmosphere, the guns, the recoil, the muzzle flash, the bullet reaction from the higs, the insane multiplayer .... Damn KZ2 was one fking amazing game.

This is a RPG meant to be played for dozens of hours. Not a short corridor shooter like The Order 1886
