And you came in here and made a sexist comment about Elyse being a fake geek girl. What cred have you got left?

There are a bunch of people who are excited for the announcements even if they didn't like FF7 or Shenmue. These people respect these games and don't play down these gigatons. Anyone who doesn't respect those games have no cred.

FF7 was a bigger killer app. I love MGS, but there's nothing like FF7.
And, no, the ridicule to that person and Giant Bomb isn't stupid. These are Gigaton announcements. Even if you hate the games, they are jaw dropping announcements. These are bigger than Square's FF13 betrayal to Microsoft.

And, yes, King's Quest is great. I was happy for it, but FF7 has a stronger, more emotional story to be attached to. Never felt anything in the 8 King's Quest like I did in FF7.

Neither the remake, nor shenmue 3 will have any "gigaton" impact on the industry. And we know nothing about either aside from trailers. Who knows when either of those games will be coming out.

They are cool announcements for fans but you are vastly overselling their importance.

Just because FF7 was important doesn't mean it's remake is.

And shenmue's biggest contribution to gaming history is probably that it bombed so hard it almost killed sega. That and QTE's.

Why is it so crazy that people just aren't interested in these games? I'm sure Giant Bomb and most other people who weren't that interested know how important these games were, but I don't know why that means they should be super stoked about it. To imply that people who don't respect the games don't have any "gaming cred" is just really strange. People are going to like what they like, you really can't change that.

Man. The Giantbomb reactions are basically all laughter of disbelief more than anything.

Reason why i switched from GB to GT a couple of years ago.
Just couldn't stomach the cynicism, and especially Alex's attitude.

However i will still take genuine cynicism and disinterest, over fake "hype".

Thankfully, GT has the best of both worlds for me.

I hate Giant Bomb.

What is cred and why should I care about having it?

They've had some of the best gaming coverage ever, in my opinion, but i just don't jell with their style anymore, and it did become more and more dry and disinterested, in my opinion.
At least that's the feeling i got over the years.

:( Not trying to be an ass here guys. Its just that is not my style. They just seem bitter all the time. Some people may like it though I know they have some great coverage. Each to their own I guess.

Or maybe, just maybe, he doesn't care about said games. I was in tears when they showed TLG, but I couldn't give a damn when FF7 came up because I just don't care about JRPGs.

Same goes for GB's cast, I listen to their podcast from time to time and they don't seem to be into eastern games in general. What's so hard to understand about this.

Maybe it's because some people are actively pissing on other people's parade?

I mean, I know you mentioned Doom a bit later and how people should be excited for how revolutionary it was for its time, but the fact of the matter is that I didn't go into the Doom thread to voice my indifference.

The issue at hand is that people are basically pissing on other people who are trying to celebrate something that they have an EMOTIONAL attachment to. And it is exactly because it is an emotional attachment that you will have violent reactions to being pissed on.

Quite a number of people are basically trolling for no other reason than to elicit this sort of response. You and Morrigan Stark are beginning to fit into the description of "internet troll" going by the responses in here.

Considering how stupidly popular FF7 still is on the PSN years after it was added, I'd say that there is a solid market for it that justifies the remake's importance. You have the original adopters and then you have newer generations playing FF7 through the PSN PSOne Classics as well as FF7 showing up on Steam and selling like gangbusters. Going by SteamSpy, there are roughly 900k people who purchased FF7 on Steam. How many of those are repeat customers and how many are new customers is something that Square-Enix was probably able to calculate to justify the remake.

Shenmue's contribution to gaming history was the introduction of an immersive world where you can pretty much do anything. This is vastly different from what other "open world" games of its period were doing such as GTA 3 San Andreas or Vice City. I suppose the better description would be "highly interactive world" where you can interact with even trivial objects. GTA 3 and other games of the same period didn't allow such a degree of player control. I think The Elder Scrolls Morrowind would be the closest to that sort of interaction but even that came years after Shenmue.

I would happily bet that all those steams sales (or at least close to all of them) are people who already played the game. The game had a huge impact on people when it first came out but I highly doubt newer generations care about it anywhere near as much. It's super janky now, the graphics don't hold up well at all, it's a very slow burner. Nothing about it appeals to newer gamers. I'm sure some younger gamers have played it, but most of them don't and never will see it the way people who played it on release see it. This remake is for fans of the original release and no-one else. It may sell a ton based on hype, and it may even sell based on it's own merits if it turns out to be great, but I think you're over estimating how much appeal Final Fantasy 7 has to people who weren't around to play it when it released.

Agreed. This is a thread where people are sharing vids of gamers showing genuine passion and joy over a game that they love. These are grown adults getting giddy like a child again. I think it's wonderful. Then you have some guy coming in and saying something like this:

Just because FF7 was important doesn't mean it's remake is.

Why the need for such trite comments that you know would only incite needless anger?

Yup, like I said, GT have a great balance between showing their passion for video games whilst also being critical. So glad I found this group.

I kind of doubt it. Square-Enix released FF Tactics on iOS and whatnot and that sold like gangbusters as well and I don't see that large of a percentage of people from my generation (that have played FF7 and FF Tactics) dropping a stupidly huge amount of money for an iPad just to play FF Tactics.

On the other hand, what I have seen are my nieces and nephews asking me questions about how best to abuse the Calculator job to breeze through the game.

It's quite literally the response to users complaining that people aren't "true" gamers for not being as excited about a franchise as others.

I walk into this thread hoping for some gifs of GBs live stream last night and it's fine that they're not here, but the thread is so full of "I hate GB bunch of cynics couldn't even react at all they probably hate everything why do they even cover games" which causes backlash of attacking the GT people in comparison, and then people start throwing around their "true gamer" card. Jeez. Some people don't like what you like, that's okay.

I just wish people would stop being offended if others don't like what they like. That everyone just enjoyed E3 in their own way. That regardless of which stream/site you watched, or what kind of "person" you are, in terms of how you express emotions, that you do your own thing, and people just be happy for others for enjoying E3 their own way. That is what I wish we would do. Honestly.

No one is more or less of a gamer for how they express emotions. One side isn't unprofessional because they showed a lot of emotions. Another side isn't less of a gamer, for not being as emotional or excited. The beauty of this industry and how games media is evolving, is we now have more diversity and choices in who we watch. And it's all legitimate and valid.

I guessed you missed E3 and all its reaction.
Did you read this thread? Or is it not obvious that the conference is the biggest in all of E3.

Why is it so crazy that people just aren't interested in these games? I'm sure Giant Bomb and most other people who weren't that interested know how important these games were, but I don't know why that means they should be super stoked about it. There is interest in the games and interest in the announcements. Anyone would at least be interested in the announcements instead of just "oh, they're doing it." That is what Giant Bomb's reaction was like.

Shenmue was considered dead for more than a decade, and FF7 Remake felt like it was never going to happen after that Hashimoto troll. Any informed journalist would react in absolute surprise and be excited for the news.

Not really the case with Giant Bomb. Their lack of enthusiasm for big game announcement speaks volume for what kind of "game journalists" they are. I am definitely sure they lost fans because of it.

Gave up on GiantBomb as well, Listening to a bunch of guys so cynical and disinterested makes me wonder why they even bother anymore. I don't particularly find them all that funny or entertaining either.

hell,i don't even care about both the last guardian andthe FF7 remake (i do about shenmue 3),but it's still so good to look at all these reaction, all that passion for something explode like that

These FF reactions are so amazing, i'm getting goosebumps, every.single.time. "...but let us embrace whatever it brings...... " -- MAYHEM --

WE need a compilation from all the clips from that moment on :D

What should it tell them? That Brad likes Dota and doesnt care about these games?

It's the biggest event in gaming in some time, something like:"Wow, they really did it?" or some reaction, even if you don't like the game, not being even slightly surprised at such big reveal, tells something about how cynical someone can be about the industry he works on.

Maybe they shouldn't even cover conferences.

I'm almost not going to fall for this troll bait.

I know that no stupid gifs are allowed but the announced of the Xbox BC had me motion for motion doing this at work. The implications of cost to the companywhat it meant for me as a user, and the direct response to one of sony's weakness all hit me at once.

i still think it's a problem when the biggest thing out of your press conference is backwards compatibility. I really wish they had footage of Recore. But Cuphead seems to be getting the most buzz out of any other game shown. They deserved it, that game looks amazing.

I will never forget this E3.

Can someone explain why Giant Bomb is getting hate? During E3 I just watch the conferences, and this year the official youtube coverage so I don't know about GB.
