If they wanted to make a sequels to the main numbered FF games..... then with DIFFERENT cast of characters and a different story.
No more to be continue sh*t or getting the main characters dragged for unnecessary quest that hurt the image of the original one.
This is what I thought. Personally speaking, I'd even want it set centuries away from the immediate game to give a good amount of distance from the main title. I've always said, there are two periods I would want to see explored in a prequel and sequel to FFVII, a prequel revolving around the Calamity from the Skies, and a sequel that takes place sometime after the post-credit scene of FFVII(hundreds of years after FFVII). I always felt the compilation of FFVII was too cluttered as far as "world ending" events were concerned. You basically had 5 different world ending events within the span of 5 years:
The threat of Genesis in Crisis Core
The threat of Zircondiade in Before Crisis
^(both of which, the final battles seemingly happened closely around the same time, which was shortly before the start of FFVII itself)
The threat of Meteor and Sephiroth in the main game
The threat of Geostigma and Sephiroth in Advent Children
The threat of DeepGround and Omega in Dirge of Cerberus
The threat of Zircondiade in Before Crisis
^(both of which, the final battles seemingly happened closely around the same time, which was shortly before the start of FFVII itself)
The threat of Meteor and Sephiroth in the main game
The threat of Geostigma and Sephiroth in Advent Children
The threat of DeepGround and Omega in Dirge of Cerberus
That being said, I'm still for new installments.
Also, knowing there are changes, I kinda hope that if the three battles against
