Harada: TEKKEN X Street Fighter "at a pretty far stage into its development"

I don't know why people thought this was cancelled. Harada's been out there repeatedly saying they're working on it.

They just had to wait until it was less toxic to talk about it since SFxT poisoned the well. Then SF5, Pokken, and Tekken 7 were all announced because they had target dates to hit, which made it difficult to fit the game into any kind of marketing cycle.

Add to that, it seems the project was moved from PS3/360 to PS4/Xbox One sometime during development. From 2013:

We do have assets created and some of the materials. It's just that we're looking at the circumstances and what direction people are going in, what platform as there's a change in the market. I'm thinking long term about that.

It was likely a cross-gen title until 2014, when it became clear the new consoles weren't going to flop, then they decided to base it off Tekken 7. Which then means it went back to being worked on in unlit corners rather than front and center.

Nah that game would have more of a chance than Tatsunoko. Just because namco and Capcom seem to have a good business relationship still.

True, true. I just feel like Namco X Capcom now a days seem like pipe dream still. Wouldn't mind seeing it though, seeing as the original didn't get localized right?

Know what? This year has been filled with the impossible happening so I'm going to believe this and just chalk it up to underpant gnomes taking an extended vacation.

I doubt there is an expernation date on the right to produce TekkenXStreetFighter for Namco-Bandai, so they can likely take ad much time as possible.

Yeah it sadly wasn't localized. Unless they do a remake or something for 3DS that's never coming over, but I was talking about them doing a straight fighting game though.

The agreement between Capcom and Namco must have amounted to a blank check to use each other's characters in 1 game without an expiration date, because otherwise there would be no reason to return to this idea. Namco wants to cash its check!

Why? Its nearly finished, so just show us some pics to make us hype about the game.

Most people have forgotten about the game at this time.

They could release the game this year since Tekken 7 on console will be what. 2 - 3 years with their arcade cycle?

There are 3 major fighting games coming out in the next year, with Harada in charge of two of them. (Tekken7 and Pokken).

Let the game breathe.

Then why are there absolutely no media or even pictures of the game?

Probably for marketing purposes. SFxT was always meant to come out first, but the blowback on that game was immense. Announcing anything for TxSF while the bitterness was still lingering would've resulted in people bashing it blindly, expecting a game on the same level of its sister.

Because of how reviled SFxT was, the dust didn't settle until after work on SFV/Tekken 7/Pokkén became public knowledge. People are afraid enough of Pokkén & Tekken 7 cannibalizing one another; announcing a 3rd Tekken with Street Fighter characters would spread both franchises thin.

Most people don't know the game is even being made.

I don't think they're just forced to release a game when it's done. They could completely finish it and then start a marketing cycle if they wanted.

Oh! A straight fighting game? Yeah I could see that then.

Backwards compatibility could change that

Why would Capcom even allow it (since the BC is based on if the publisher allows it) when they want people to always get the newest version of Street Fighter?

They should at least show us something since we've been waiting to see it for years now. I really wanna see how the SF characters transitioned in Tekken's gameplay style......also I miss the Ono/Harada promotional hijinks now and then lol.

Because Xbox only gamers won't be buying the new version anyway. Might as well get some sales of USF4 through simply giving permission for it to happen

So it's vaporware?

I feel like if it were actually in the works, he wouldn't need to issue a statement. The smart thing to do would be to ride the doubts and turn them around all at once for the big reveal.

Turn it into DLC for Tekken 7.

(that assumes the systems are somewhat similar, that the balance wouldn't be completely out of whack and it's also built on UE4)

But yeah, is there any other option?

Capcom botched their counterpart with gems and DLC characters.

At least we know that the Tekken guy is against dlc characters.

Focusing on Tekken 7 I imagine. Once that's (nearly) finished we should start seeing stuff for TxSF. I mean between Tekken 7, Pokken and whatever small team is doing Smash DLC they seem quite busy.

Because BC also works with digital and they can still make money from that.

It's so far done and there are no leaks? Man, that's got to be an air tight environment they're in. Capcom could learn a thing or three.

Capcom put Street Fighter 2 and 3 on platforms well after 4 came out.

When asked about the game before it was a general "Don't worry about it", or "don't ask me about the game"

Talking about how they already decided the roster and the system mechanics is less convincing, because you save that talk for when the game is going to be shown. Not when you're supposedly waiting an opening after releasing two newer fighting games (T7 and Pokken). It's a please understand statement.

Makes sense why they haven't showed it yet. They knows fans are waiting for SFV & T7 looks as well. Hopefully they use this time to keep building on it and making it play and look better and better
