Looking back at my copy of "Earthbound Beginnings" and it's starting to look like Iwata, on his deathbed, said "ok, joke's over... let's let them have it....."

Rest In Peace Mr. Iwata. The impact you've made on gaming in the last 15 years has been phenomenal and undeniable, regardless of your stance on current Nintendo.

You shaped the childhood of many, and brought joy to so many people. You will find peace in death as you did life, and we will remember you.

What? Iwata was a superb coder

he also debugged Smash Bros melee by himself to avoid a delay and launch the game on the date they were targeting

People wonder why is it that Nintendo can release such quality software without bugs without fail. It's passion like this that a board of director member will be hands on into the nuts and bults of their company in order to please the customer that shit companies like Warner Brothers or Ubisoft don't seem to understand.

Please understand

I legit feel awful now of what I said about him and Nintendo during E3 week.

I think what I am taking away from this new is - we are all gamers, and we all play for fun. The games, companies we like and industry have ups and downs. But we should think we should take one step back before opening the flood gates with hate and negative comments.

I was in that Nintendo direct thread when it was live and writing comments like "what the hell are Nintendo doing?" Not as harsh as other peoples, but still. Now to think Iwata was reading all this negative hate, while he knows the long time future of Nintendo and all the exciting things to come to please the fans. While all he can do is apologise and promise to try better next time. And I genuinely think he was telling the truth.

Wow, that is so unexpected :(

He was the one CEO that knew all sides of gaming by heart and from all I know/read a good man and dedicated to his passion.

He didn't always make the right calls, but he managed to propel Nintendo to new heights.

Can someone please Ribbonise my avatar? I feel more than ever I want to show support. This has hit me like a fucking bus this morning.

RIP Mr Iwata.

Very upsetting news to wake up to, thoughts are with friends, family and colleagues.

I'm tearing up at the Iwata fan art and tributes.

Iwata helped to make gaming fun and I often forgot that he was the president of Nintendo given how jovial he acted. I couldn't believe the news when I first read it this morning and it's still taking time to sink in.

Rest in peace, Iwata-san.

What? Wow. Completely shocked, I wasn't aware that he was battling with cancer.

A great figure for Nintendo, sad to see him go like this. 55 is no age. Rest in peace.

I see a lot of them actually feeling guilty for what happened

If they don't feel guilty (i.e. Pachter), so what? Nintendo was a troubled company in recent years. It's perfectly reasonable to suggest that he step down in those discussions. It doesn't take away from his legacy (I mean, the DS and Wii years... my god. Could there be a more radical success story from a gaming company that has known failure?)

Though I think most of us were more thinking we wanted to see how he'd pivot next.... NX will be an interesting experiment to see if Iwata's last moves would have righted the ship.

Regardless, whatever happens, he is in the hall of gaming visionaries...

I've never been a huge Nintendo fan despite owning a couple of the systems. But full respect to the man and condolences to his family. RIP.

I always loved his Direct presentations, such a charming guy.

Like with all people in media, I somehow expected him to just always be with us - this is a harsh reminder that we should never take anyone for granted.

Rest in peace.

Realized this morning that I played Wii U the most of the current gen consoles and how much fun I had with my friends. Just Saturday we played Mario Kart and more on a beamer in my kitchen and everyone had so much fun.

I remember getting Pokemon Silver from my parents and being surprised that you are able to visit Kanto in this game. Oh lord how much I annoyed my parents to buy me the sequel.

I NEVER played Earthbound, but I will do so in the next days. Even though Ness and Lucas are my main characters in Smash since Melee and Brawl.

I loved Kirby on my GameBoy.. played through it every day.

I almost teared up in the train this morning when I read everything. He was an awesome men and deserved to live longer, way longer. I truly respect him and I want people to remember me too like this in the future.

Thank you Iwata!

I always said Iwata was my favourite company head of any big corporation - he seemed so sweet and cared about his company. A seriously sad day to have lost someone like that.

This seems like such a trivial thing to say, but it just hit me that we will never again receive a level 5 gold pants Iwata bringing greetings and puzzle pieces to our 3DSes.

If there's still one in your lobby, save it.

Already saved along with all the other Nintendo reps along the way to keep him company... :,)
