I haven't played the original Balloon Fight outside of the Smash masterpieces demo, but I really liked the NintendoLand version. Gonna get it on VC soon.

Damn, in that recent picture he does not look healthy. Crazy to think he still worked as a CEO of a multi-billion dollar company in his condition. :(

I have great respect for him.

Wow. What can I say. Words fail me.

Thank you for what you have done and achieved in your lifetime, Mr. Iwata. You are an inspiration to us all and left your mark on entire generations. You will never be forgotten for as long as a single gamer remains on this planet - but you are already being missed. Rest In Peace.

I feel Iwata is responsible for Nintendo continuing to produce great games.
I feel that he wasn't afraid to go against his investors if he thought it would be harmful for the company and its fans.
He'd rather take a pay cut than fire employees.
We lost a great man, an gaming icon.
I'm sad, angry, and worried.
Nintendo won't be the same without him.
He will be missed dearly.
I believed in him till the end and I hope he rests in peace.

Please no more Steve Jobs post-mortem super-hype, the black ribbons and the multiple threads are enough here. He's no martyre nor Christ even if it's dreadful to die at this age. Don't make his death a disproportionate event.

Close your browser window and leave us alone.

I don't know if already posted, but NoA updated its press site with a more recent image of Mr. Iwata (this photo was taken on June 23 this year):

If I didn't know what he looked like before I wouldn't be able to tell he was a sick man. He's definitely lost weight in this picture and he looks aged.

The look on his face isn't the look of a man who only has a few weeks left though. This man looks like a worry free professional and if he knew he was on his way out, which he probably did, he faced it with courage and didn't want people to worry about him.

Oh, Iwata isn't as important as Christ?

Well then wrap it up folks.

He looks so much smaller

Wow, is that really necessary?

Seriously. Beyond disregarding historical evidence to suggest he was real (which you can interpret as you'd like, but can't deny), keep this elsewhere today.

Stop trying to monumentalize or minimize the moment. Just be. Others who were closer to him are speaking, and we can just commemorate without being petty.

You'll be missed, Iwata. Cheers.

Sad time for us all... Nintendo will never be the same. Puts this past E3 into context a bit... we gave them such a hard time while they were all dealing with this. :(

I woke up this morning, and the first thing I did was start thinking about Iwata again. It's still hitting me hard.

Would making Iwata an official SSB character through DLC be a great tribute or inappropriate?

I'd say inappropriate. No one wants to beat up Iwata.

But I'd like to see him make it into the game as a trophy. That would be a nice tribute.

And to think I started playing Earthbound for the first time on Saturday...I feel like I will look at the game from a completely different perspective now, maybe for the better.

Rest in peace Iwata. You will be missed.

(I would like a ribbon on my avatar too, if that isn't too much to ask please).

(badly) edited in a ribbon for myself because this man is legend, and I have never felt so sad at the loss of a person I'd never met. I do hope he knew how much he was loved.

Today is my birthday and I woke up to see these truly saddening news on GAF. :(
Iwata always seemed like a great guy, he will be missed. It is both touching and comforting to see the quotes and the various tributes in the OP. Thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.

Guys, I'm on my way to Nintendo of America HQ. I will leave this somewhere. I just want to pay tribute to a man who brought us so much joy.

Dealing with the loss of someone you cared about is something I'm still not used to, so don't know what else to do.
