EVO 2015: Street Fighter 5 Panel @ 2PST/5EST

Very excited. I'm all in for it. Most things I've heard about this game so far I've been very interested in. If I had a bison dollar for every time I've heard "new proprietary netcode promises best performance in franchise history" though.

highest quality lag-free gameplay experience in the franchise history

Third strike HD with GGPO is part of the franchise history and this is better, right? Right?

Dunno man, 3sOE was pretty janky. Not as bad as HDR, but still brutal.

edit - nm, 3sOE didn't use GGPO right?

They said you only NEED to buy one disc.

Not that you necessarily won't have the option to buy a more filled out edition later. Also I believe KI does something like that periodically so I'd say it's possible.

I'm expecting and hoping for this, but it hasn't been announced yet.

It did, but the implementation was whack. (You had to back out all the way to the options menu each time you wanted to adjust the delay setting, which should be able to be easily changed for each individual opponent.)

Not really. It's recorded matches. I had cases of seeing the same match twice. I need live spectating. During tournaments this would be amazing.

Ah yeah, the recorded aspect of this in Smash would be the exception there. An in-game way to spectate live tournaments and bet in-game currency would be awesome.

I think that was it. Did it ever end up actually happening?

Seems like a legal nightmare TBH. Betting Zenny would be great alone TBH, as long as there is constantly content to exchange it for.
I remember art testing it out and posting his results so it was definitely a thing. Not sure what came of it in the end though.

It definitely went live and useable, but it was just such a weird niche thing.

I've heard it used as a currency for a lot of anime related things. No idea where it came from.

"Zenni" were some of the first regularly minted bronze coins in the 17th Japanese Tokugawa Shogunate. Modeled after the Chinese "chuen" coin, zenni were round with a square hole in the center.

Everything detailed at the panel was really positive and promising. I just wish they weren't afraid to change Ryu and Chun-li's looks (this somewhat applies to Cammy too). You can update a character yet keep them instantly recognizable.

Anyway, I was hoping that they would take some time to talk about their internal focus on the Single Player front, which would include helping newer players get into the game and learn its advanced mechanics. Maybe they'll give some updates there at TGS, or maybe even the Playstation event (like its debut last year)?

I was at the panel. An older gentleman asked about that (he said it stinks to go online and immediately be beaten by much better players). The Capcom folks said they're aware of that problem and would only mention that training mode will be better this time. Details on the training mode will be provided at a later time.

I guess that if they're doing a character reveal it will be tomorrow right?
Also I need to hear more about the Fight money the idea sounds good and it seems Capcom is... turning the table? lol

He also mentioned in the Q&A that they'll only do quick patches if something is discovered that basically breaks the game. So they aren't going to have a panic attack if people start screaming a character is OP. Which so far has happened with every single character they've revealed. :p

Yup, that's always the case with every fighting game pre-release with every character that showed off anything looking decent, even if it was just in a character reveal trailer where they always look good. People need to stop with the silly snap reactions.

Took them ages, but they might finally be getting it. Finally.

Still bitter about Sentinel's health in Marvel 3, Fuerte's U2 3-frame startup & damage gone, and a couple other things. Sentinel's being the worst example, done just two weeks after launch. Phoenix Wright, who's an easy bottom 5 in Marvel, had an invincible assist changed. Tron Bonne too, but at least she was somewhat used a good bit, even though she also wasn't that strong.

Phoenix Wright annoyed me the most, they nerfed him right away before anyone could see what he was capable of and he had nothing else really to speak of.

Oddly I don't recall Tron being nerfed even though I mained her and built all my teams around her. Do you mean when they nerfed her assist from Vanilla to Ultimate or am I forgetting something?

Yup, the flame from her Gustav Flame assist was completely invincible in Vanilla, they got rid of the invincibility in Ultimate. Some other things were worsened too I think, but I don't have the Marvel bible handy right now.

Honestly I didn't really have an issue with that. I used it but didn't rely on it and it was a new version of the game so I didn't view it as a nerf really. It seemed like everyone else dropped her entirely form it though.

Regardless the PW thing was different, at least with Tron's assist they let it run it's course, PW they patched almost immediately and made him complete trash.

They ruined the hitstun scaling on her normals. Tron was a great point character in Vanilla and she's just 100% bad in Ultimate

All the stuff from the panel sounds great. Street Fighter V will be amazing. The only thing I didn't like were the dropped alt designs, nice to see they have been discarted and decided to use the current main costumes (including the Bison/Cammy/Nash/Birdie/Ken redesigns, I love them)! :)

Everything sounds good so far. Competitive players and venues will probably just buy additional characters to learn how to play with or against them immediately, depending on how long they take to unlock. Hopefully this model doesn't split the community in any way.

About damn time Capcom realized for balancing that you should keep good characters good and make bad characters better.

Been saying this for so many years now.

I don't know why they do this. Nerfs on some of the characters never really made sense. Juri's Ex-pinwheel nerf was unnecessary on a character that has zero defense. But they at least Yun got buffed.

But seriously fuck SF4 on how it handled balance changes .

Yup.

And the only one who is still rocking Tron at high level is Abegen. But then again, he plays what he likes like I do regardless of how bad they are, evidence is him using Thor on the team too.

Ah yes, that's what it was, yeah.

SF4 is the standout example of terrible balancing, when in this day and age, data research and feedback is the easiest it's ever been to get.

Some of the standout ones were to Dee Jay when they took away the best thing to bis best move, the lower-body invincibility to LK Dread Kick and they added something else to it. When he was already terrible. Only to give him back the lower-body invincibility and take back whatever useless improvement they gave him in the very next patch. Needless to say, he's still terrible up till this day.

Dee Jay is so bad that there is nothing that should be worsened on him whatsoever.

I know it's prolly unpopular but I'm gonna miss big content updates ala super ae or ultra. Having so many new things at once really freshens up the game and kinda gives it a new lease on life imo. I doubt vanilla sf4 woulda pulled 2000 entrants this year if it had only had roster updates and no big mechanical changes to go along with them. Hyper fighting is a different game than st for instance.

Ehatev they could still do something similar with a more consumer friendly approach.

While Money Matches using in-game currency seems cool, if you can buy everything ingame with that currency we'll be seeing a lot of people exploiting and selling it, just like MMOs.

Buy Premium currency to get a character for $20 or buy Match Money from www .cheapzfightmuney. com for $15..Seller invites buyer and just stands there.
