Wouldn't it be funny if DQXI were announced for the DS?

Like, not 3DS. Not PS4. But DS.

After all these years. Biggest install base, after all.

Hahaha.
My money's on PS2/DS multiplat. It will become the best selling game in history.

This thread is a joy to read haha.

Now if everyone who cares where it ends up actually buy it...

I'll buy two copies. One for myself, and one for all the salt that's bound to flow no matter what in 5 hours.

Not even a PS4/3DS announcement seems to be enough at the rate the threads going.

It is astonishing how much more people seem to care about the platform than the game itself. Then again, I suppose it's natural that the audience for console drama (containing both console warriors and unaffiliated market watchers) would be larger than the audience for DQ on GAF.

Still, can't wait for some actual game info to talk about.

What a strange post. The level of mobile tech completely irrelevant. There is not a mobile game in the top 10 in Japan that couldn't run graphically on a Gameboy Advance. They are also mostly free.

The $60 full length AAA RPG is not moving to mobile, ever. A game like MGS5 will not be made for mobile anytime soon. Whether that market dies out is a different question entirely, but it has shown no signs of moving anywhere towards mobile.

Dragon Quest isn't really a budget buster, though. It doesn't focus on graphics or cinematics, but gameplay and story. While they may sell a lot in Japan, they're not exactly spending Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts money to make them.

It doesn't really matter what it costs to make. What matters is its a boxed product that sells for over $60 in units of millions and that's how it makes money. That is not how the mobile market operates.

It may not move exclusively over to mobile, but it may start sharing with mobile more.

The Nvidia Shield console is pretty impressive in terms of power and it will only become moreso over time. I wouldn't be surprised to see more and more AAA RPGs ported to mobile in the future thanks to set top boxes like that one, and Amazon's FireTV as well.

Thanks. PS4/3DS sounds good to me. No proof is okay for now as long as the source is reliable, and Verendus did hint at a similar deal awhile ago. Two different versions makes sense.

Even if this is true, the two versions will be significantly different, graphic and feature wise.

Salt will be mined whatever the outcome.

They'll put a mainline Dragon Quest game on mobile and it'll have all loads of microtransactions to make up for lost up-front revenue given the way Japan is going.

Do you guys think two versions mean two versions of the same game, given the peculiarities of each platform, or two different games within the same universe, like Ni No Kuni?

I wonder if there could be any cross platform features in a PS4 / 3DS multiplat? Sharing saves, unlocking extras, etc. Would Nintendo and Sony allow it? Could they stop it?

It would be super cool if there was an Oracle of Ages / Seasons type deal where the stories converge and you could affect things in one game using the other.

SE need to stop pussyfooting and just do an iOS/Android release of a mainline DQ. BIGGEST INSTALL BASE /done . No one shall be satisfied.

I'm envisioning a limited edition Sony smartphone with a pure Dragon Quest UI skin.

Two things I want that probably won't happen:

1. The final post in this thread (when it is inevitably locked) to be a link to the infamous DQM Joker commercial with text reading, "Pipe down, will ya! I don't think a spell is gonna work on this one!"

2. The first post of the announcement thread to be, "I can cast the spell!"

If the PS3/3DS is true then the PS4 version should be good for 3DS owners. Localization will be way more probable. Unless they only localize the PS4 version lol.

this is what i wanted out of virtue's last reward. i wanted the multiplatformness of it to play a role in the story, like how the ds played a role in 999's story. instead i got regular ol' plot twists instead of my mind is full of fuck plot twists.

Yes, because PS4 offers the latest in cutting edge TURN BASED COMBAT.

Ni No Kuni was an oddball that it existed in both PS3 and DS version. PS3 Ni No Kuni had a very different combat system than DS version, which was pure turn-based I think, whereas in PS3, it was like a hybrid of real-time and turn-based.

I rarely buy games brand new, but I'd be all over this in a heartbeat. The only competition in my house would be who gets to play it first, me or my wife.

We'll see, but I doubt it. It will likely be the same story and basic gameplay, with perks one way or the other, as there's not really anything the 3DS can't do other than graphical fidelity vs. a console.

Ya, but in this case it sounds like its all around turn-based.

That's fantastic.

But DQ isn't changing its battle system. It never will. The biggest deviation was DQX, and that's just because it was an MMO.

I have played Dragon Quest since Dragon Warrior. Whatever platform it is on I will try to play it (as long as it isn't that horrible online thingy they released called DQX).

But for the love of God Square-Enix, release 7 on 3DS in the west.
