If we don't get a release date then this First Look was a total waste of time. Maybe 2 minutes of total content that was actually something new.
Well I'm generally only interested in it from my perspective, so it has been a total disappointment./' exclusive month of first access and news doesn't make me think "90% old news regurgitated".I mean, new to us and those people that have been following the game steadily since announcement, but I imagine IGN's coverage got it in front of a lot more eyes and raised awareness of it even higher. For us, it's been mostly an annoying drip-feed of old news with new vistas as a backdrop, but I can see it being good for people that had never heard of NMS before this.
Crowded year or not though, I really wanted this game in 2015 :
Hoping we get a release date today!
otherwise what was the point of IGN First'ing this?

I thought a release date was going to be announced very soon. What's the damn hold up.
No release date? Psshhhh we learned more during that 60 second yes/no interview than this entire month.
For hits
Gamescom is next week. There's some paris event coming. And of course, we're probably having another PSX in November.
I guess theres two things, when the release date is, but also when we announce that date. We cant announce the date right now, because of things that are not entirely in our control, but honestly for good reasons. Itll be announced as soon as we can.
Procedural bug hypeOne time, we had creatures that lived on the ceiling of caves only in the Northern HemisphereAnother time all the buildings started walking around the planet. There was a space station that tried to dock in another space station, and a gun that was so powerful it blasted creatures into orbit. My favourite was probably the bug that would reincarnate you as a different creature each time you died. One minute you are in a dog-fight, the next you are a shark in the ocean.

From today's article concerning the release date:
So it's got to be a Morpheus launch title, right? What else could it be outside of their control that's holding back the release date announcement.
From today's article concerning the release date:
What in the QA made it seem like VR had anything to do with any release date announcement?

Ixpsop: Is the game coming to Xbox One? Will there be Oculus support on PC?
Murray: Were a small group and we are very focused on delivering a great experience on PS4. Like, so focused it hurts... I want the game to shine, to do something new, and I want it to push the technology. I guess Im not sure how much I can say about any of this, but I do think VR is extremely cool.
Sorry we couldn't get the release date, but it's out of my control.
And for those who thought the month "sucked" or was "90% regurgitated," I'd respectfully disagree. We had a LOT of interesting new footage this month that made our content more than worth checking out. If you didn't enjoy the coverage then all I can say is, "Well, you can't please everyone." Maybe you'll like our next IGN First.
Thanks Ryan. It was all worth it when you landed your ship on that buildingSorry we couldn't get the release date, but it's out of my control.

Thank you for telling us that from the off. ;>

Could be a PSX annoucement in December.I am really curious what this "thing" is that is preventing them from announcing the release date. From those comments it seemed that they definitely have a release date in mind already. My first thought is that it is going to be a Morpheus launch title but I don't see how that prevents them from announcing that now or at least confirming a delay to 2016. Maybe Sony is making them save the announcement for some event?
I want to believe it is something else entirely and the game is still 2015. There's no reason for them to have teased the announcement for the release date being soon just to announce a delay into 2016. Right, guys? Right?
I wish they could just confirm it is still 2015.

You imply it was decided before the month even started. There were discussions throughout the month. It just didn't work out.
Morpheus launch gameFrom today's article concerning the release date:
Don't sweat it too much, man. I definitely enjoyed the information we got this month. It was welcome after the super long dry spell. A release date would have just been the perfect cherry on the top.
Edit: Also, yeah, you crash landing that ship was definitely a highlight

Scresan: Will the universe be cross platform? Could you be roaming planets on PS4 and run into a PC player?
Murray: Theres really two questions, will the universe be identical, and will the network functions be shared? Unfortunately this is one of those things that I cant really talk about just yet, but its actually a really unique problem for a game (that different platforms could have entirely different universes would that be good or bad? What would people prefer?).
Ok, I gotta question. I go to IGN's main page and click on the No Man's Sky link they have on their four big headers part (The graphic that gives you a choice between four stories to read).
And all it does is take me to an article effectively saying, Ask your questions to be answered on July 31rst.
Where do I find the article that actually has the questions and answers?
hell, I found some one else linking to it and I still get the same article (it does have a video on how no man's sky works but I'm pretty sure that was from earlier in the IGN first coverage). Where do I find the question and answers?
It's getting obvious now.
That was the link I followed and it took me to the page. Now it shows me what you're seeing. Maybe they took it down or are updating it? Can't find it either. Weird.
Looks like they updated the article because it had an incorrect release date on it, I'm presuming they didn't upload properly or something...
Ugh.
Sadly, missing the hype train to try and sell a niche product sometime in the distant future. Great.
