Oh ok. So it then the decision to go with a CG trailer seems even stranger so close to release no? Unless this was never intended to release early next year and we get the inevitable delay.

Or it was going to be announced and demo'd at Gamescom and decided it to so it just to announce there was a new AAA IP going to be released in early 2016 for XB1.

It would be nice to get a date on Gamescom details.

Theres nothing strange about it.

The game has been in development for 14 months, its a nice cool new IP they have coming and its out pretty soon. It makes much more sense to announce it at E3 with a non-gameplay trailer which doesn't affect the development cycle then show gameplay Gamescom. Or you could show it at E3 and not Gamescom where the rest of their first half of 2016 games & later games will be (which would be stupid) or make two gameplay trailers/demos which would be excessive or show it at Gamescom which is a missed PR opportunity.

They showed a trailer, people in here are excited and intrigued, good news folks, its out quite soon and you'll be seeing gameplay soon!

I wouldn't mind at all if the game is a 2D adventure, i'm already in love with the main character and the concept is great

Well, this is awkward. lol

Very nice seeing Microsoft start up a new franchise like this. Its an owned Microsoft Ip so Microsoft will need to keep the devs around and turn it into a long running franchise. Sounds like they will :)

I assume we will see more on this at Gamescom. Honestly Gamescom is sounding good for Microsoft so far. Recore, Scalebound, Quantum Break, Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, possible another Rare announcement, and Press Play may be showing their new ip as well.

How do you know (not questioning your legitimacy but just curious)?

How do you know (not questioning your legitimacy but just curious)?

Know what? They've specifically stated in interviews its been development 14 months and in others said they're intending to show it in the next couple of months (I have a hard time believing they aren't referring to Gamescom, it would just be silly if they weren't)

The rest of it, well a two punch PR win is just common sense because of its (current) release date: Announcement that people are intrigued by -> the talent behind it and the concept itself and its out relatively soon. Then you take it to Gamescom, show gameplay -> (presumably) hype intensifies, people are satisfied due to short lead time between announced, gameplay and release.

You make the most of your announcements and unveils, you don't force something that doesn't make sense. CGI trailer is perfectly fine for me, I know this game exists and I'm excited about it as others are, we get to see it soon according to the developer, win for gamer, win for publisher, win for developer.

^ Pretty much this. The talent behind this, the concept, and the release date puts this on many including my radar. Cant wait to see it xD

It also looks like MSFT will have more games spread out in 2016 compared to 2015

From the Gamespot Interview.

"Very early on we talked about what the game would be like. You know very early on it was a third person Action/Adventure game so it wasn't just a platformer, wasn't just a combat game. It was a really nice mix and blend of the two. Exploration was a very big part of it, and on top of those things how could this aspect of these characters and cores filter in every part of the game so that people are constantly reminded of the themes core, and are immediately drawn to these characters."

Oh ok, thanks for I am not even sure what I was asking at this point. Thanks for more insight though, I didn't know it was in development for 14 months.

Sold. Instant sold.

Haha Yeah its looking really good. They said expect more in the coming months so i assume we will see more at Gamescom. Gamescom is actually looking like itll be really good this year if everything comes together.

Looks like Microsoft focused e3 on games coming in the next 12 months, and then Gamescom might be focusing on 2016 and 2017.

Not sure if you guys saw this, but the official Xbox youtube channel put up the trailer with direct commentary from Keiji Inafune and Mark Pacini.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoD3Pi1WBw0

Not a ton of new info but there is some stuff I hadn't heard before.
-1 faction of robots want to help bring humanity back
-Other faction does not want that to happen (for some reason-they mention that we'll find out more later)
-Sounds like there are underground areas where "all the good stuff is"
-Can extract cores from other robots as well as other things in the world
-Cores can be used to either upgrade your currently active cores or put in another character

The game will be like a Metroid to the extent that it’ll reward players for poking through its environment and revisiting sections of its landscape. “Areas that you would have gone into before, the landscape might change underneath you, because the sandstorm mechanic will kind of uncover or cover things that were once blocked off to you, and vice versa,” Pacini explained. “There’s a whole world pretty much under the sand that you can explore.”

“The idea is that we like to create worlds where you get to utilize environments more often, and you’ll get abilities and things you can access in other areas later,” Pacini said. “There’s a large aspect of that in the game as well, but we disseminate that down to your companion as well. Jewel, the main character, isn’t the only one getting the abilities. There’s also a large crafting and RPG aspect to the game as well as you customize and upgrade your robotic characters. Each frame has different things they can do that others ones can’t, so they become like keys.”

This sounds right up my alley. I hope it's good.

Creating the Music for the ReCore E3 Trailer

http://www.recoregame.com/2015/07/22/creating-the-music-for-the-recore-e3-trailer/

You can hear the full trailer track in the article.

That was a great read! I hadn't paid attention to the music before, but listening to the trailer I think it's beautiful.

Really looking forward to learning more about this game.

Given that Armature has only developed one original game to date, someone really ought to ask them what went wrong with Blackgate and what they've learned from that experience.

I am a bit incredulous this is making Spring 2016 at this point.

I don't see any reason why it won't be Spring 2016 if that's what they're saying it's going to be. I doubt much has changed in the last month when they made that announcement...

Right, but the reasoning and rationale that we were all using for going the CG trailer route with such a soon release date was because Gamescom was right around the corner and it would give the game double exposure.

To then argue that not having the game there because it's tough on production doesn't say to me "ok, makes sense". It says the CG reveal was either a bad idea, or the game is not on track for its targeted release date.
Armature were (I'm assuming, based on the tie-in to a different game) rushed before, and the results were terrible. I just don't think they should be pushed for a Spring release if they at all need extra time.

It's been in development 14 months as of E3, so if it came in Spring 2016 (Apr-Jun) that would be 24-26 months of development. Yeah, it does seem a little light even for a AA game. I wouldn't be surprised if it slips to the second half of the year.

I'm betting April 2016
at least MS exclusives should be spread out next year:

Predictions :

- Quantum Break (February)
- Recore (April)
- Alan Wake Remastered (June) - pre order bonus for Quanutm Break and separate
- Scalebound (July)
- Inside (August) - Timed Exclusive, makers of Limbo
- Forza Horizon 3 ( September)
- Crackdown ( October)
- Gears of War 4 (November)

Or the gameplay demo they have isn't in a polished enough state to show on a big stage like Gamescom as they're ramping up. Perhaps Microsoft feel the Gamescom show has enough in it and they don't need to put extra pressure on the team to get a demo ready when they could be going full steam ahead towards that Spring launch

I mean I think its silly in some way its not getting a demo at Gamescom but Phil has always been pretty forthcoming about the short gap between E3 and Gamescom being tough on the developers to prepare content for (and likely why Sony decided to wait until PGW) so that would be the explanation for it. What threw me off was Phil saying he was playing it and Armature/Inafune saying they hoped to show it in the next couple of months

Im sure they will have plenty of time by the end of the year to show us some gameplay and ramp up the hype train before it launches next Spring

Feb seems early for QB, will be march at the earliest I think. Feb is too close to the holiday rush still imo.

I'm still skeptical over Recore making it out Spring 2016 but we'll see.

Even if ReCore doesn't hit mid-June (late Spring) I doubt it will be "delayed" much further than early Summer personally. Perhaps it will depend on when other titles around it are launching

they say a lot of things and 90% of it turns out to be false. If this gen hasn't taught you that yet, I guess we'll just have to wait for the inevitable "ReCore is delayed" announcement to do it ;P

A game with the sort of players behind development like this has... was not at E3, and not at Gamescom. Microsoft is not attending TGS. There are relatively few major shows left between now and then, and who knows if there will even be a Games Awards show this year. They can maybe do a Game Informer cover and IGN reveal, but a game like that usually gets at least one major show to shine in before release. Scalebound even gets that benefit. It may release in 2016, but I can't imagine it'll be Spring. Maybe unless it's literally like a few days before the change to Summer 2016 so it can be at E3 2016. :p

RECORE
Developer: Armature Studio
Platform(s): Xbox One, PC

ReCore is an upcoming 3rd-person action adventure game being developed in partnership with Keiji Inafune, exclusive for Xbox One and Windows 10. In ReCore, you play one of the last surviving humans and team up with a variety of robot companions to travel through a hostile and mysterious world. Having just been announced, I am not at liberty to post any more details about the game just yet, but Microsoft has big plans for the game and the IP over the coming year.

Probably a PC version is coming later then.

Could be that they are planning on announcing a bunch of PC titles at once and they are keeping Recore PC version secret until then.

It makes sense, i dont see MS investing on Xbox one only exclusives anymore and especially on single player adventure games. I think their focus is Windows 10 and Xbox one as one ecosystem with their own store instead of Xbox only for games. We can expect Sunset overdrive and other titles too very soon announced for Windows 10 (Not PC/Steam) and its smart idea to sell the game and expand Windows platform.

That'll be awesome if so. It may be the first "true" cross-buy game with Windows 10. So i'm definitely building my PC next year. :)

I think Sunset Overdrive is in a weird spot. On one hand, it is an xbone exclusive but on the other, Insomniac owns the IP. I think it's up to Insomniac if they want to port it to PC (and if their recent comments are anything to go by, it seems they don't) but I don't think the Xbox/Windows unification affects them. I think if they brought it to PC with mods, its sales would easily eclipse what they got from the xbone but whatever.
