Smash Wii U & 3DS Downloadable Characters Discussion and Information on Smash Ballot

We didn't have any new contwnt from December to April. It's only been two months since the E3 update, and one since we got new stages. Chill.
This is the only period since release where we haven't been given any inkling what will be coming. I would think they'd want to keep it on everyone's mind in at least some small form.

Speaking of leaks.

How absolutely hyped are we going to be next time we see the flaming slash marks of the Smash logo?

We know literally nothing. We don't even have a time frame when the next DLC will be released or announced or anything.

Even if it's just Wolf, not knowing anything will make the reveal really hype. Like the Lucas reveal, which was an emotional experience for the Smash community.

That's why I'm pretty exciting about next announcement because we actually have no clue who we would expect to see, other than Wolf.

Well they don't leak at the server and updates to datamine anymore.

It might happens but it might not happens.

So the leaks Smash 4 has had

- Pre reveal E3 2013, 4 characters are leaked, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager and Little Mac. The first three are revealed the next day.
- Skip ahead to December 2013. Nintendo of Brazil accidentally uploads the Direct early, leading to Rosalina and Luma being leaked about an hour early.
- Little Mac is revealed, who had been leaked the previous year.
- "Pokemon from X/Y", Shulk, Mii, Chrom, Pac Man, Chorus Men and Palutena are leaked. All but two are revealed, with evidence Chrom and CM were planned at some point.
- A few weeks later, Greninja is revealed, confirming the previous leak.
- A text leak comes out stating Duck Hunt, Dark Pit and Bowser Jr are in, Alph is a costume, Doc is returning and Ice Climbers are cut. He backs this up describing costumes for Bowser.
- E3 2014, Mii, Palutena and Pac Man are revealed. One of the alts leaked for Bowser is confirmed. Mr Game and Watch is also soft confirmed and Dark Pit is teased.
- E3 2014 3DS Tournament: JC from Treehouse stops himself mid sentence from talking about Falco
- August 2014: Robin and Lucina are revealed, shattering the previous leaks' credibility (until later when we found out the two wrong characters he mentioned were cut at some point)
- Sakurai later mentions in Famitsu that Chrom was considered but was too similar to Marth and Ike.
- August: Metaknight is revealed as the last pre-release vet.
- August 19, 2014: The entire roster and stage list from the 3DS version is leaked with video and plenty of images from a worker at ESRB. The Smash speculation world is driven mad with this information overload.
- Late August: Shulk is officially revealed, with his art matching the ESRB leak. It's 100% confirmed.
- September: Nintendo accidentally puts Ganondorf in an advertisement before he was officially revealed and quickly pull the ad. Sakurai had joked about Ganondorf being in before, so it's not like they even needed to...
- At a demo in Japan, Alph is confirmed as an alt of Olimar.
- The next day Sakurai remembers he forgot to show Alph and puts him out there. "Here's Alph, he exists, totally forgot to show him before"
- September: The game is released in Japan. A Twitch user gets a copy 2 days early and leaks everything. He is terrible at the game. He takes 4 tries to unlock Doctor Mario.
- The 3DS is datamined, finding a Wrecking Crew stage, a Miiverse stage, Master/Crazy orders, Smash Tour and 8 Player Smash. The 3DS having sloppy data cleanup will be a re-occurring problem. Also Ice Climbers and Rhythm Heaven icons under the character list.
- "Tower of Smash" gets a couple of stage choices right and sounds somewhat believable.
- October: Nintendo of Europe thinks Great Cave Offensive was revealed, shows an image of it with no explanation. This destroys the Tower of Smash "leak" which had previously gotten information right.
- Amazon accidentally lists the Stage Builder and Master/Crazy Orders as features.
- October: 50 facts revealed, Ridley officially deconfirmed once and for all, Mewtwo confirmed as first DLC character. Etika is now a meme.
- Some Pokemon guy on Youtube gets a review copy of Smash 4 and accidentally shows Flat Zone X, which he quickly pulls.
- Some other guy just doesn't care about NDAs and reveals the entire stage list and tons of other black listed content.
- Smash for Wii U is released and the leaks stop. Miiverse' music and Tournament Mode's music are left on the disc.
- Lucas is revealed and it's legitimately a surprise.
- The leaks don't stop for long. When Mewtwo is released Nintendo messes up completely and leaves Ryu, Roy and Dreamland on the 3DS' files. Dreamland was so bad, it actually broke classic mode for Kirby characters. Jesus.
- Nintendo again fails horribly with patch data and puts the Wii U data up a day early. The entire of the next day's content is 100% revealed and E3 hype is deflated.
- The latest DLC releases at the end of July with no hitches or leaks. Although it was revealed on Twitter which was kind of stupid.

What a wild ride.

It was a great ride with SmashGAF but it's too bad that everyone bailed out in this thread. Only few of us left here.

I really hope there aren't any more leaks. I'd love for the last couple of characters to be a complete surprise. There's a reason Rosalina and Luma and Robin were the most hype reveals.

Did you all see the Isaac Smashify came out today? I was waiting for him since they announced the whole project, and I think I had too high of hopes. Something in his face shape looks wonky. Maybe his eyes? I have such nostalgia for Golden Sun, but I still haven't replayed them since they were put on VC. I am a terrible fan.

Yeah, I can appreciate the overall effort, but the leather looks terrible and completely unlike anything else in Smash Bros. The eyes are also really creepy.

I have zero expectations of him actually being added, but still fancy the idea. He doesn't have the mass appeal to make the money back. I never expected any representation but we weirdly got that assist trophy. I wish he would have just kept that in to satiate me.

Yeah, I appreciated that they did all works but Isaac's face don't look right and came off somewhat creepy.

Dude from Japan on Reddit's AMA of a Japanese gamer said not to expect Isaac because Golden Sun isn't really that popular or remembered in Japan

He didn't exactly said NOT TO EXPECT, but yes he confirmed it's popularity is pretty low.

Same here but it's fun to rooting for him.

Well Japan's had a lot of reps that are popular there.
The Americas got Little Mac.
It's time for whomever Europe's unsung hero is to finally get a chance to shine!

Don't forget that madness about how the stripes on Ness' shirt have always been in one pattern, and his Smash art didn't match.

*Sigh* Just look at how far we've come!

I was gonna say this, lol. This was something I believed since it seemed the person really had an eye for the differences in Ness' design, like his shirt being untucked and "perfect" looking, and how different his face looked in general. He looks great in Smash 4 though all things said and done.

There's something a bit off with his face and that leather texture is like 90s CG.
This is what I homed in on too. The texture on the boots seems a little "too" realistic, and juxtaposes with the rest of it, and the face/hair are too anime, with the massive eyes his original design doesn't have. The hair needs something too, maybe some feathering on the edges. Doesn't look like it's been hand done, more a 3D model so that's probably why. If the Smashified guys read this though please don't take offense, what those guys do is awesome and I love their videos, just a critique though~ (Pls do Dixie or Krystal at some point <3)

Well recently big titles In Europe the UK have been Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Brain Training and Tomodachi Life which are all already represented.

I suppose we have Ray from Disaster Day of Crisis and Doshin the Giant. And who can forget the classic European exclusive, Wii Chess?

Technically one could make an argument that Sonic is that representative, since, at least in the UK (Europe is too diverse for me to make further comment) he was bigger than Mario.

Those characters would be perfect vehicle character because you could see their expressions (or emotions) middle of fights, like Clown Cart.

I can't believe Stunt Race FX keeps getting the cold shoulder, not even a remix on a Mario Kart stage.

It's time for whomever Europe's unsung hero is to finally get a chance to shine!

The third party door is wide open, lets all share in the thrill of a good solution.

That reminds me there isn't an Excitebots trophy in the game despite being a recentish Wii game with easily ripped models.

I guess Nintendo wants to forget a game that sold like 10,000 copies exists, but Captain Rainbow has a bunch of stuff in Smash 4. Although that might be because Mac is in the game.

Y'all should take one for the team and get Mike Jones in this party. StarTropics was released there as well after all! :p

If a Level 5 character makes it, it will be Jibanyan.

Ha, this reminds me of that dumb bitblock discussion where they bitched at Nintendo for not bringing Captain rainbow overseas.

So September 13th, the one year anniversary of Smash Bros 4 3DS.

What better way to celebrate than to remind everyone that they were slightly disappointed at release that Wolf wasn't in the game.

Also since they'll have Fox and Falco in the studio anyway, at least Fox will probably get lines in Wolf's trailer.

- Lylat Cruise, Space Armada music from Brawl is playing.
- Fox reflects a missile from Samus and then rushes forward, grabs her and forward throws for the kill.
- Fox: "Sector is clear, returning to base"
- Suddenly a Wolfen fires on him, Fox spot dodges and then runs to the edge,
- Fox: "WOAH, what was that... Wolf!? You're back?"
- Wolf: "Ha, can't keep me down, Star Fox. Let's see if your skills have improved"
- WOLF CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT
- Cue Star Wolf theme from Smash 4 and gameplay montage

I would have loved either that or an Endless Ocean stage; anything which went for an underwater environment. Of course, in the end we had neither...

tbh saki's assist trophy not getting cut is a pretty big victory for the S&P series in and of itself lol

Seeing what happened to Isaac, I have to agree. Though it is a shame the series is so obscure - a playable character would have always been out of the question, but it had so much material for stages, enemies, assist trophies and bosses...

Who doesn't enjoy a good fake text leak from 4Chan?

This is the second time Agent 3 has been mentioned. The other time was that dude who claimed to be a friend of the original ESRB leaker.

Late October would be absurd.

I know. I really wanted that Gabbiano Stage! Maybe I could go back to the Ballot a 4th time...

Agent 3 would be an interesting choice and would be easier than modeling different versions of an Inkling. I would be more than okay with this. That would also mean an Agent 3 Amiibo, which would also be less confusing than releasing another Inkling girl or boy. Although, there are multiple Mario amiibo so that probably doesn't matter.

Finally something to look at.

Agent 3 would at least cover the idea of confusion with the costumes. I'm still of the opinion to not expect a character from Splatoon.

We'll get a bunch of vets, and one newcomer who is prob third party. That's where I'm placing my bets right now.

Yeah, even if this rumour was true, getting Solid Snake to return is a lot like trying to squeeze water from a stone. It won't happen, especially with how loopy Konami has been as of late.

But what vets? After Wolf, none really jump out as obvious.

Snake is weird licensing nonsense, Ice Climbers are technical issues, and Squirtle/Ivysaur/Pichu are not all that popular and are more Pokemon DLC.

The more I think about Agent 3, the more I realize it's the perfect Splatoon rep.

- It solves the issue of different gear. Agent 3 only has one uniform and one gun. Access to three different grenades opens the moveset up as well.
- Alt colors wouldn't be as complicated as Inkling, instead being recolors to the gear, hair, skin tone and gender, versus entirely different outfits and hats.
- Agent 3 is visually different from the Mii costume and older Splatoon Amiibo.
- At its core, Agent 3 is a playable Inkling, but rooted into a specific character with a consistent costume, which makes it easier to make individual.

Did the leaker took a look at my wish list and made the fake leak from it? :|

Isaac, Snake, Inkling (Agent 3) and Wolf came from my wish list that I made few pages ago. I'm totally up for Dixie Kong too! More Donkey Kong Country representative is bonus! Unfortunately, it's probably fake! :(

I don't think Shadow Mose Isle would come back due to several reasons.

Pikachu Libre for Smash DLC.

Why not?

I second this. I'm glad that Saki is back as assist trophy, and I would pay couple of dollars for Isaac to come back as Assist Trophy. It's better than nothing.

If Shadow Moses came back, 100% guaranteed it wouldn't have the codecs.

Or if they did, they wouldn't be character specific, and they'd record a handful of generic ones, like how the Star Fox easter eggs work.

There's also the issue of Hayter. He was difficult to get for Brawl, and with Konami burning that bridge, where does that leave Snake's voice?

A part of me wants to believe that ice climbers could still return. Nintendo talking to Konami about an old IP to license could lead to Snake.

And considering Pokemon is still very popular with most cuts, why not? Pichu especially could return, considering we may have had plusle-minun replacing him in brawl. The popularity of vets in Japan also leads me to believe they're more likely.

That's one of few biggest reason why I'm unsure about Snake's return. Shoot, I would love to see codecs coming back but I doubt it since DLC stages are parity to both versions.

Shadow Moses is also one of the more graphically intense Wii stages, so down porting it to the 3DS would be tricky.

They might have to cut the Metal Gears in the background on the 3DS. Which isn't unprecedented (RIP walking Chozo), but would be disappointing.

Yea, Pichu returning would make some sense. That would round out the Melee vets, besides Ice Climbers who are more of a Brawl cut. Plusle/Minun as alts would be a nice bonus as well and get some third gen into Smash.

He's super easy to bring back too. At minimum effort he has one attack different from Pikachu (Up Smash) and a different idle animation. But I'd really hope they'd go further. At least fix his obviously broken run animation from Melee.

The only thing about Pichu is that the basis for his character in Smash is "low-budget, low-effort, intentionally bad character", and even if all that gets changed up, it would feel weird having him be paid DLC. I wouldn't have complained if he had been brought back as a joke character and total clone in the game's base roster, though - but I don't see much point in including him otherwise. I think Wolf is the only cut veteran we will see as DLC.
