Halo 5 screenshots ['Blue Team' campaign mission]

Man, if people only wanted an fps game that was strictly for looks they would just play crisis 3.

Sure was a looker. .... lol
This.
As long as Halo keeps being Halo, gameplay wise, story wise, atmosphere wise, I don't care how it looks. Though, the people at 343i seem to want to give us all that plus good looking graphics and a solid, 60 fps performance, so I'll take it thank you very much!

Nah whats disingenuous is running to check someones post history because they called a game mediocre which then lead to multiple people quoting the post followed by ad hominen attacks because a certain fanbase really can't take criticism but sure can dish it out. Btw those posts were from the Controversial opinions thread, not surprising it would be outlandish and ...opinionated.

I thought the E3 showing which contained SP footage looked really unimpressive, this is a new generation and you expect the marquee franchises to be the ones to push the envelope, another gen and another disappointing outing from the franchise (graphically).

I think it's largely an artstyle issue. I agree that the E3 demo didn't look great (I thought it was mediocre myself) and most of the interiors havent looked too hot but the outdoor environments show that the game can look great barring image quality concerns.

I don't think it'll set any benchmarks even taking into account 60FPS but it still looks pretty solid overall. Interiors are just blah though.

I think the game, quite frankly, looks awesome. It's one thing to be all caught up in the graphics to the point that it's being outright overlooked how exciting the campaign is shaping up to be with all the things they're doing. And they're doing this stuff at 60fps.

If the alternative has to be Prometheans, then maybe the Covenant should have been the primary antagonists for a few more games. Halo 4's new enemies just aren't nearly as fun to fight. You must have noticed all of their teleporting and hiding and bullet spongey shenanigans. The Covenant use tactics. Forerunners use gimmicks and annoying behaviors.

Those new fast humanoid thingies from the E3 demo could be good though.

I agree, the covenant is a lot more fun to fight than the prometheans. Maybe they were only meant to compliment the covenant, since we fight both throughout the Halo 4 campaign.

Nah man your responsible for the shit you say, and you got called out on it. What he did was take away your ethos on this topic and you really don't deserve it TBH.

At the very least, I wish the material of the armor looked more like this:

What we have looks so flat. The new visors look better though.

It's painted flat like a tank, and I think that's quite fitting.

The modern day predicament. Too many consumers focusing and judging a game based on graphics and too few judging it on the more important parts, such as gameplay and story.
It seems like such a difficult environment to work in, being a developer.

I don't know why people keep saying this when Halo 1, Halo 2 and Halo 4 looked great at the time of their release.

People usually repeat what they read on the internet, even if its not the case.

Halo 1 and 2 were on a technically superior platform at their time, and Halo 4 was released at the very end of a generation.

Halo 3, ODST and Reach would be more accurate comparisons.

Personally I think Halo 5 looks great, maybe not the best out there, but considering the campaign and in 60fps, I think it is pretty good.

The armor in the game is actually pretty shiny, not like the pic you quoted though. If you look at the spartan intro to a recent arena game you see quite a gleam coming off of it. It looks sexy.

Like I said, screenshots do this game little justice. You'll be playing the game in motion so if it's to be judged on its visuals that's how you would do it.

Right, a little sheen is one thing, but the candy gloss is really out of place.

Master chiefs armor looks horrible style wise in 3 compared to 4 and 5s. I used to like it but now its just dated and silly.

Because military combat equipment are painted in a high gloss and shiny fashion right?

It wasn't a great example, but I just liked how the light interacted with armor more, giving it more depth.

A better example of a style for the material I would like to see is this:

Again, I'm just talking about armor material and the way light interacts with it. Not armor design.

The material looks like worn iron or sheetmetal with mud on it. The almost matte look of 4's look smooth and tough.

I always lived the texture/material of the armor here:

The way the light interacts just looks really nice, & helps the visuals pop a bit more.

This pic outlines some of my issues with Halo 5 compared to previous games. I just don't like the art direction. I'm not a fan of the weapon or armor designs, I don't think they look very UNSC at all. The world itself just looks dramatically different too.

Gonna love the game, I'm sure, but the art direction bugs me.

I really hope H5 is good, but the fact that they've showed so little of the campaign and multiplayer (seriously, when are we going to get to see Raid On Apex 7?) along with the aesthetic problems that 343 hasn't fixed makes me worried.

This is gonna sound stupid but it almost looks too sci-fi.

Everything is very over-designed and overly detailed. Halo 1-3 were very simplistic looking. There's giant tubes and pistons everywhere for no reason, I can't tell what anything is just by looking at it.

It's also like that in the Forerunner aesthetic. It went from flat textured surfaces to extremely intricate fragmented floating weird stuff everywhere, it looks like organic metal instead of angular perfection.

I really miss Bungie's simple and clean look.
343 doesn't seem to understand that adding lots of geometric detail doesn't automatically make it look better.

I will agree with this. People have always just looked at it as a mere technological difference, but it's more than that. 343's art feels very cluttered and busy. I've come to respect it as their own style, but I wish they would go back to the simplicity of Halo 1 - Reach.

Bungie's Spartans for the most part looked like soldiers clad in real power armor. 343's Halo 4 spartans looked like gundams. They've been improving, but it's telling that the armor I really want to use is based on a Bungie design.p

Bungie's games probably only had a simple look because of the hardware limitations. I prefer 343's design, they're more fleshed out.

Considering the art direction of Destiny I'm confident that isn't the case. A ton of 343's art is over produced. The Spartans look like anime robots, it doesn't even look consistent to the UNSC tech designs. The BR having a horn shaped scope bugs the piss out of me. So random.

I'd say this vid shows off the visuals well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyGLwQULkvY

It's also doing things on a much larger scale than Black Ops 3. Around the 5 minute mark when they are around water especially looks nice.

Side observation. Didn't realise you could switch seats in the warthog without getting out. Around the 5 min mark, driver switches to gunner. Pretty cool. Handy for rescues, flag pick ups and back up on your own.

I think ive just been spoiled by other games and renderers.

The metal doesnt look like Metal, probably my biggest coplaint right now and its not really an issue.

Im getting this day one, 60fps fuck yeah.
Might be the first Halo I actually play the mutiplayer for more than a few months.

That new Warzone mode looks like where ill be spending my christmas holiday...if I suck at it as much as i did at Halo 4, and 3 and 2 then ill just abandon my Halo MP endevours forever.

Halo Reach and Halo 3 had the same hardware limitations as Halo 4. It's more about what the focus is on those games and especially which new methods have been found in the Xbox 360 life cycle to use the hardware. 343i squeezed everything out in terms of graphics for Halo 4, but the gameplay (and performance sometimes) lacked because of that. Bungie did a good job of balancing gameplay, story and graphics, at least for me.

I'm in no way hyped for Halo 5, but I'm looking forward to what 343i has planned. I just hope for good gameplay.

CE & 2 never looked impressive to me at launch, but i wasn't really a console gamer back then either - so my platform of comparison was PC, as opposed to PS2 [which i never got to even touch really], so i should probably excuse myself for a rather huge bias here.

Umm what? It still looked impressive as hell. Halo threads always brings out some nonsense

They're still from the initial "Blue Team" campaign mission that we've seen a lot of already. I believe they're new angles/closeups though, haven't seen them before. Looks great.

This place looks like a god damned OH&S nightmare.
There's not a single railing anywhere... the whole place just screams unsafe work environment.

It looks really pretty, but not at all like a place anyone would actually work

There are a couple railings in the last shot. :p

But yeah, looks rather unsafe for the most part.
Just one more reason for the Innies to rebel

Looks great, already have it pre ordered from Microsoft Store with 15% off plus $15 gift card (Xbox Rewards). :D

End of this year is gonna be expensive for me with all games coming out on XB1 and PS4. :(

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Is there anything being unveiled at PAX, Halo 5 wise?

What is there to reveal though beside forge or may be day 1 playlist, which I am assuming will be at Halofest 2015.

They should give us a new ViDoc or trailer at least :(

I am craving for more Halo and this thing is still 2 months away.

Yeah...I've said it a thousand times about this series on here, but this revisionist history stuff with Halo drives me nuts. CE was crazy impressive at launch compared to pretty much everything on every platform.

Finally got my pre-order for Halo 5 in. $74.99 msrp is crazy, but it's whatever. I know the guy working there and he said he could break street date for me by a couple of days. I don't know if I want to risk playing online early. They probably wouldn't ban for playing early by just a few days right?

It's so foggy, it makes the screenshots look really ugly :/

I played Halo 4 and Reach several days early and was fine. Just don't make a big deal out of it anywhere and you'll be alright.

Canada. All that universal healthcare and gun control doesn't come cheap :(

Yeah, but gonna be tough to act like I haven't been playing the game 5 days before launch. But that's if the guy even comes through. Probably won't risk it when time actually comes and they have copies in hand.

This is so true.

We still don't know the scope of this game. Yet many are seemingly fixated with graphics at this point.

Let's wait until the game is in our hands and we have seen the full spectacle before ripping the graphics.
