The films are the primary source for Battlefront, so of course my emphasis will be on the movies.
The original clone wars and Republic Commando were great. The biggest problem is the perception of the new trilogy being completely sophomoric and its appeal to the 8-16 age group (especially with new clone wars). To a company that's making a shooting game (and has made military shooters for 16+), the appeal has to be to the 18-54 group. On screen, yes the battles are bigger for the new trilogy but we know that's a real world budget issue and not a canonical problem (look at Wookiepedia, the battles from OT are much bigger than on screen). It's entirely possible that the prequels will be represented when the game is fully established, but for the time being I think DICE is doing the right thing by focusing on the OT.
In terms of the PC gamer article, I always have found piloting in a Battlefield game to be clunky (but that's on me, others can master it). If there were problems with the flying mechanics, it could just be the journalist(s) playing the game versus a serious in-game defect. On the other hand, if the controls truly are rubbish, I'm sure DICE can fix it given their past history.
