So many nods to the Coens' oeuvre in just that episode. That scene with Offerman would have fit right into The Big Lebowski.

I was just reading Alan Sepinwall's review and he lists the songs:

Songs from the episode include a live version of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" (playing over the Jimmy Carter montage), "Children of the Sun" by Billy Thorpe (Rye stalks the judge), "I Love You" by J.C. Akins (Ed drives home to Peggy), and a cover of "Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby" (from the Coens' "O Brother, Where Art Thouh?") by Noah Hawley himself and "Fargo" composer Jeff Russo, over the closing credits

I'm a bit afraid about the "increased comedy" element. Fargo S1 had just the right balance and it never really got to "HAHA LOOK SO ABSURD RIGHT" (though the fish from the sky thing was borderline). I don't think the show will work if that takes center stage. There were a lot of subtly tragic moments in there too, if they go overboard then those will lose their gravitas.

The anthology format is quickly becoming my absolute least favorite format for storytelling, but this was a pretty solid premiere. Fargo might just warm me to this whole model.

Great episode! The whole diner scene was nuts. And Dunst driving off with the guy on the hood was perfect. I like seeing the Solversons as well. Little Molly <3
