MGSV: Konami Offline Tax for players who opt out of FOBs

Ok I haven't played MGS V since last week so I'm sure I've been taxed by now.

But if I play again today, can I just refuse terms and conditions when starting the game and dodge all this bs? I don't care about FOB (at mission 28) and this thread is slightly doing my head in with resource caps, losing GMP etc.

I just want to enjoy the game and I haven't made a FOB yet, and I'm about to start mission 30. I've always played offline because it significantly reduced the loading times on everything. Last night, I forgot to go offline and it wouldn't let me progress unless I made a FOB, so I had to go offline again to play.

Don't really care about those two trophies so when I'm done I'll just delete it.

This is really fucked up. Nothing like not letting the player play the way they want to. When will publishers realize that not everyone is into online? What they are doing is practically DRM. I myself enjoy SP in these games and could give 2 shits about the online modes. But to avoid penalty, I won't log out of the server I guess.

I got annoyed at the online FOB stuff that I am done with the game. I don't like losing stuff that I worked for in my SP game. I cant believe there isn't a way to turn it off completely and not get taxed.

You literally don't have to pay attention to the FOB things if you don't want to. Just build the damn base, complete the tutorial (if you want to) and proceed to reap the benefits with very, very, very slight chance of someone raiding your online stuff.

I seriously don't understand why someone needs to take the extra steps, such as the ones in the OP, to avoid things that are totally optional and at worst, just benefit you with every step you take (such as being able to build quarters so much faster, if the time is a problem then you might just as well use a trainer and cheat your way out)

People seem to have read the news about the online insurance and such, but have no idea how the game actually works

They have still taken some of my GMP though, even though i don't have a FOB or have ever played MGSV online.

I don't want to play online because i don't want people coming in & stealing my stuff when i have zero control.

Wait, how the fuck do I opt out of this? I just tried starting up the game, and did not see an option to decline the TOS. Am I fucked here?

Stop being so scared and you wouldnt have an issue

Odd. I actually want people to come in and try to steal my stuff. But it just won't happen. I've had literally 0 attempts made on my FOB, and I have done 0 to fiddle with the security settings, so it's at whatever the default is.

Ok, but if i am NOT going to play online at all, the GMP & items in my single player are still limited, then there is the issue with stuff getting stolen that get taken from my single player game.

its been like 5 days since I or any of the people I am supporting have been invaded

I had been wondering why when I logged in yesterday my GMP immediately went into the red. It seems the more I play this game, the less I understand wtf is actually going on,

This in no way excuses the stupid practices Konami is doing but some of you are really making this way worse than it has to be. Why are you offline, you are afraid of some bogey man coming and stealing stuff. Do the FOB, build up the defenses and I guarantee you will EARN more than you lose. Every time I log in I get gifts from all my defenses.

There should be zero worry, just play like normal and you will be rewarded.

300+ hours logged, been invaded maybe a dozen times, of those only 2 or 3 were successful and did a small amount of damage.

Can make 5m GMP in less than an hour grinding containers/vehicles, while using dispatch missions to supplement my income and staffing. Not to mention that I don't really need GMP/Materials anymore as I've developed everything I need for the main missions and so its all getting ploughed back into building FOB related crap anyway.

No cheats, just playing on PS4. Sorry, but its just not that big of a deal in my experience, nor apparently any of my online buddies as they haven't mentioned such stuff.

Just reads like you're playing a f2p mobile game, to be honest.

Sorry, it's just not that great of a thing in my experience, nor apparently any of my online buddies, as they've dropped the game because of this continued nonsense.

Weird, bummer. On the other hand I've put barely any time into the FOB stuff, haven't bought any MB coins, (yet I have hundreds from bonuses) and am basically loaded with resources/GMP flowing in on a regular basis. Got like 2 or 3 platforms for each section and done a few infiltrations (managed to do a 4/4 last night!), the event, and even though I've been invaded a few times the losses have been pretty negligible.

I'd just suck it up and take the L honestly. With the verticality the FOB stuff is a nice challenge compared to the horizontal level design of the rest of the game and some of the endgame research is pretty fantastic to dick around with.

I'm only on mission 15 or so... stuff like this makes me not want to continue...

Honestly, this hasn't felt like a "Metal Gear" game to me... as someone who played 1-3 back to back and then took 2 days off work to plow through MGS4 in 2 sittings.

Server maintenance a few hours ago, which specifically mentioned "adjustments to storage limits"

holy fucking shit

Maybe you just don't see them anymore online because they are too afraid to play online?

lmao

I've never played any mobile game besides Fallout Shelters (which was 'beat' in a week and hasn't been touched since), but if MGSV is how they feel then maybe I should start playing more. Because I've put in about 150 hours and I am still enjoying it while I wrap up that 100%.

It's funny that people in this thread are using the same defense for online only experiences as publishers

"No guys, it's actually great and everyone benefits from it! It just wouldn't be possible without online"

It's great that you're so aligned with what they want you to think, but some people do not think it's great and do not like it and if there was an option for them to experience the game like they want, yours wouldn't be changed one bit

They've moved onto other things, but some of them i'm playing MGO with. Despite it's flaws, it's good fun.

What's a "Metal Gear" game feel like exactly? Because to me each game feels significantly different from the others.

They are (attemping) to using a similar gameplay loop that games like the Supercell games use to keep people playing.

The second key to this game’s success is that it creates the illusion that it’s a multiplayer game. I say it’s an illusion because you don’t do anything directly with another player. You don’t fight and explore simultaneously like you would in World of Warcraft, of play against another player even in on a turn-by-turn basis like in Chess. When you raid another player’s village, that player is offline and you may as well just be raiding a random computer-generated village.

But Supercell, by creating the illusion of a multiplayer game, taps into the instinctual male drive to rise in the status hierarchy, and although it’s impossible to get to the top of this hierarchy unless you have been logging in every day since the game came out plus you invested real money in extra builders, the desire to get just a little bit further compels enough people to spend real money on virtual “gems” that this game is the top-grossing app at the App Store.

If it was a F2P game, I could excuse it, but this is supposed to be a AAA premium product.

This makes no sense. Feels like Metal Gear to me.

I have been playing the game every day since release, probably 50 hours into the game and I have yet to be invaded. I'm on PS4 so maybe PC folks get massacred.

Such an amazing game I think it would be a shame if people got turned away from the fear of losing some GMP.

And frankly I think some of the issues the OP is having isn't even related to any of this.

The FBO was very annoying. I just wanna skip for the next mission and the game keep prompt to do the tutorial etc.

They're doing a shoddy job of emulating that then. It doesn't feel like a multiplayer game at all to me. Maybe because my base still haven't been invaded (seriously, would someone invade me please).

Better yet, they could have just designed the game to also accommodate those who don't want to mess with all of this stuff so that they can be left alone to enjoy the story and play their own way. You know, like games have been doing since forever?

Would it have made any difference to you? From what I've seen you say, I doubt it.

What do online resources do?

Nothing, they are just there for people to steal.

They allow you to have more than 200k (I think that's the offline cap). It's actually what got me to start connecting more, because I kept hitting the resource cap on 2 resources. Also my plants kept hitting the 3k cap.

This isn't an issue anymore. At least for me on PS4

It is still a minor issue on the PS4. At least for me there's a somewhat noticeable lag. Could be my connection though.

The game's slog-fest design pushed me away before the patch, but others enjoy the core game and have a right to be pissed about it being affected by this. Just as I have a right to comment about a game that I bought in a discussion about it.

so we are looping back to "lol scrubs too scared to do FOB, just join in you get more benefits" again, disregarding people who just don't want to deal with that disgusting free to play mechanics, and feel nothing wrong with Konami enforcing more punishments/ nerfs to people who don't want to be a part of it. sigh.

what is going on with this game? i've played it about 10-15 hours (slowly inching my way), and i still don't even understand what an FOB is or what MB coins are. seriously WTF is all this convoluted and confusing online/motherbase crap? i want to know if i even should keep going or not.. can i realistically beat this game without taking part in any of this nonsense? i just want to sneak from mission to mission to see how the story goes.. too much to ask?

should i give up and move on to Witcher 3 finally?

I'd say keep going until you're not having fun. I didn't experience most the issues people are presenting here. It could be due to my play-style, or I'm just more apathetic to it, but nobody can really answer whether you should quit now or not but you. I also avoided these threads until progressing to the end of the main story, so I was ignorant to whatever the current zeitgeist surrounding it was.

but will i have the needed equipment etc for the later missions, if i don't play online at all or worry about motherbase or fultoning the right stuff? (seriously fultoning is silly IMO and i don't want to do it).

This is rediculous and while it in no way makes Konami's actions justifiable the fear people have of FOB is also unwarranted. I know that it's a scary idea but in over 100 hours of playtime I was only invaded twice, both intruders were stopped and I lost a single recruit. Meanwhile, defending other player' FOBs is fun, you get to feel good because you are helping other players and you get rewarded a crap ton more resources than you'd ever lose to an invaded fob. If you don't want to play FOBs because of another reason, that's fine. But there is no reason to be afraid of playing online and I think everyone who has played online would agree with me.

Yea, can't believe people are saying this is ok. Even if it doesn't affect you that much, it's still pretty shitty. Glad I finished up this game before a lot of this shit started although the FOB stuff has been bad since day one.

You can probably clear the game with your starting gun and pistol. I eventually unlocked and customized a tranq. sniper rifle and added it to my usual load-out. Other than that, I think you might only really need a rocket launcher for a couple missions, and that's just if you want to make it easy. Online isn't needed for any of that. As for fultoning, I fulton everything. So I don't know how difficult it is to proceed without doing it.
