Nintendo also said Wednesday it will give an update on its smartphone game project with smartphone game and platform provider DeNA Co. when it meets investors to brief them on strategy Thursday.

“We will provide updates on our project with DeNA tomorrow,” Nintendo’s new chief executive Tatsumi Kimishima said.

I guess this means reveal then?

Bout time, as someone pretty new to mobile games, Ive been dying to know how Nintendo will portray themselves in such a new environment.

The insider comments make it seem like it's a lesser-known IP and that they will save the big ones for later. Makes sense, really. If they screw up the first time with Mario, it's over.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So, I suppose the membership service as well. Shit's gonna go down.

If goo, I might actually buy my first mobile game. To be clear I don't have anything against mobile games, I just haven't found one I want to spend money on yet.

Oh, right, is there anything else in the WSJ's article (can't read it fully due to no subscription).

At least you can talk. Who are you?

True. But if they use a smaller IP they might not grab the audience they want. I'm interested to see how this plays out.

The audience is less important than getting the formula right at first.

They have said they want to do something different. Even if it's not popular at first, if it's well received, then they know a better direction to move in with their stronger IPs.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Gut says Animal Crossing something or other.

To those using this as an opportunity to get into mobile gaming, theres some pretty good stuff in there already! Monument Valley would definitely be my favourite but if you can endure the ads there's some good infinite Arcade Games.

Excited for what comes though.

I cant tell if im hyped or not..On one hand its new Nintendo stuff,on the other its mobile.Oh the conflict

Perhaps I'm giving Nintendo too much credit, but they're one of the few companies I'd trust not to cheapen/ruin their IPs on mobile. Of course, they have to make money, but I have some faith it'll be done in a typical, well polished, Nintendo way.
