NPD Sales Results for October 2015 [Up1: Xbox #1]

Lol, there's no way ~276k is a win for Sony, no matter how close it is to MS.

While the impending November sales are probably a very likely explanation, you only have to look at the aggregate predictions to remind yourself how poor this month is for sales. I still can't get over it. I expected so much from this price cut. And the PS4 is down from last year. It's crazy.

I don't think The price was ever a issues with ps4.$400 is a pretty standard price for a console,I don't think a $50 drop made people feel like they had to buy one. Especially when Holiday deals are right around the corner. Sony being able to match the $299 BF deals is huge imo.

Hey man I'm kinda thinking you may be right about Halo on PC after seeing these numbers. If not at launch at least a late port. Maybe 1 year later or something

Oh yeah, it's happening. All of their games. Gears 4 will likely have a larger drop from Gears 3 than Halo 5 from 4, so that is certainly hitting pc. They are going to start wanting to make as much money from their first party games as they can. And as we can see, first party titles don't sell hardware like they use to, so there really is no downside in my opinion.

Not really. As long as Sony hits their margins I'm sure they are fine. Not to mention I'm sure they know better than any of us how many preorders they have for the cod and BF bundles

It's so funny watching all of the freaking out. This hits the nail on the head. They are fine, as are Microsoft.

Pretty much. Combined with no games really released in October... Battlefront, CoD, FO4, BF deals, etc in November. This will be the insane month I believe.

Shh... I'm medita... OH FUCK I CANT KEEP IT IN! HALO 5 SUB 1 MILLION?!!!! HOLY SH!T.... I'm getting off neogaf now, this is going too far. I mean I've become addicted to foruming on this site.... From 350 to 500 posts in one day.

Sickboy's unifying theory of life:

"At one point you've got it, then you lose it, and it's gone forever."

No one should think there favourite thing will last forever.

My only question around it now is Gold subs. They really value those. So I could see their big titles not hitting Day 1 on PC but within a year of launch yeah

People are saying X1 sold 300k. Assuming every sale was a Halo edition, that means it made $150 mil at $500/console. People also claiming that Halo 5 sold 1 million. That makes $60-80 million (assuming some significant number of limited editions). Together that means 2$10-230 million. People also claim that US is the lions share of Xbox one.

So rest of the world is responsible for about $200 million more? It would take about 3.3 million more sales of the game/controllers (and no consoles) for the numbers to add up.

No way it sold less than 1 million. Unless people are going to argue that Halo sold more in the non-US markets.

Last year said:
Microsoft did get back to us with a comment that echoed a blog post from Xbox marketing boss Yusuf Mehdi from earlier this week. The company pointed out that its recent price drop, from $400 to $350, has helped triple the Xbox One’s sales. It claims that its newish box has outsold the PS4 for the last two weeks.

For context.

Or MS PR was about sell-in (shipped).

Shipped 500k consoles ($250m) and sold 300k consoles.

November should be good for PS4 and hopefully should recover from the October price cut fail. Since I won't be able to do predictions for November I'll just leave the info I was gonna place on the November prediction thread:

PS4 Pre-orders on Amazon so far:

September:

#16 Darth Vader LE PS4

October:

#26 Darth Vader LE PS4
#39 CoD LE PS4
#89 Star Wars PS4 Bundle

Two Weeks of November:

#14 CoD LE PS4 (Launch numbers mixed in)
#24 Darth Vader LE PS4
#26 Star Wars PS4 Bundle

Black Friday Ads:

GameStop - $299 UCC PS4
Target - $299 UCC PS4
Walmart - $299 UCC PS4
Best Buy - $299 UCC PS4
Meijer - $299 UCC PS4

$299 PS4 should be everywhere in Black Friday. I think Sony can reach at least 1m in November with all of this.

Cosmic just cosigned the dude on the last page...
But he didn't cosign the numbers, just expressed his respect. And while I respect CosmicQueso, I have to disagree with him here. I do data analysis for a living, and from my experience ZhugeEX's analysis on GAF was generally reasonable, but not anything especially clever or insightful. He had a very high opinion of his own estimates though, which is a real red flag.

Pretty sure the $400 million is sell-in. MS probably sold through about $200 million of that in October. They'll sell the rest and more in November and December.

There was once a guy who thought that his estimates were actually better than the trackers he was using to make his estimates with. Such a strange (and statistically unsound) fellow. Went on to create some website. Everythingandnothing or something like that.

I think this turned from one of the most anticipated NPD thread of the year to the least anticipated for me. I don't even have the mood to post pie pics and I see no one else does as well.

yup...disappointed at everything. Next month sales will be up, but meh, nothing surprising for the year I think. Good healthy sales for the industry, that's about all I care about now.

Captain Toad and Yoshi (though we don't know numbers) have surprised me.

I really wonder what pokKen can do.

If executed right I don't see why it couldn't debut at...350-400k? Or is that too high?

Here's a damn interesting question.

Does Ubi release yet ANOTHER yearly Creed release next year? And if so what the hell can they do to salvage this thing.

They give AC a year off and put out Watch Dogs 2 in it's place. It makes sense, especially if they think they can get an AC1 to AC2 level bump in quality.

That is, unless they feel like the have to have something to coincide with the movie. Even then, I could see the movie getting pushed to early 2017 and the game releasing then.

Y'all are too impatient. The cream always delivers.
He seems to keep us waiting longer and longer with each succeeding NPD thread. I'm surprised he hasn't just popped into the thread to just leave "Kept you waiting, huh?". That would drive most people nuts already
