PAL Charts - Week 46, 2015

WTF thought this was a old thread lol
Great sales for fallout .
TR did bad , you don't spend all that money to reboot a IP and then sell 1\3 of what the reboot did .

I have a feeling that the deal was made before everyone knew the Ps4 was the clear market leader and now that Ps4 is basically 2:1 WW with Xbox, no sane publisher is going to allow their games to be monyhatted by MS. The Tomb Raider deal is just a plain bad call of SE in predicting how well Xbox one was going to sell by the time the game releases. I highly doubt they will make this mistake again.

I think it'll be like the PS3. They'll still be able to moneyhat exclusives, but it'll be new IP that pubs are experimenting with like how PS3 got Haze.

So if MS and Square make the same deal on the next TR, Which I think they will, what does that mean, or are you guys saying thats impossible? because they lost much this deal?

Hahaha wat. They are not going to make T3 a year exclusive (or any exclusivity again).

factor in PC sales in 3 months, PS4 sales in a year, with MS money, TR could have very well done excellent, if we stop looking at it in only one view point, of only Xbox one sale. Which is still IMO very good.

"Very good" lol. What universe are you living in.

Deal was probably signed right after E3 2014 because the game was announced there as a multiplatform release. So no, at that point they knew the PS4 would win the current gen.
It seems like they announced the deal as soon as it was signed to try to create buzz around the X1 which was really struggling back then.

99 out of my 100 friends man...

I actually remember reading something along the lines of 900%. Haha!

Anyway, this is gonna be trouble for the franchise if this game sells a lot less than the reboot. Did't they say that it took a long time for them to break even with that reboot? How would it be if this sells worse than its predecessor did?

Looking at these sales Tomb Raider 2 might have a lower ASP than the first one .
Which would be awful and hurt the IP even more.

Honestly unless something major happens people should probably be a bit worried about the franchise. It opened at 1/3 of its predecessor and SE saw the first titles sales as a disappointment at launch.

This is not good.

Even if the digital sales were 100% of retail it would still be 57k short of the first games performance. That is close to the retail number of ROTTR.

it justed launched, and no one game is going to move consoles, PS2 did awesome with a 3 pack, FFVII, GTA and MGS, not all was exclusive but 1 year. Lets see what happens this fall. The prices are pretty close this time, but I still expect Xbox to win Nov/Dec NPD by a good margin.

You're on a roll in this thread Statham!

SE are almost certainly disappointed with these sales, it's very unlikely a similar deal will be struck for the next game, and Xbox One outselling PS4 in November/December is looking shaky (but it could happen!). Either way Microsoft clearly doesn't have a FFX, GTA3 and MGS2 calibur lineup these holidays...

I think this is fitting.

Further driving the point home that MS put their eggs in the wrong basket. Instead of buying a timed exclusive they could have aligned Fallout with Xbox in the same way Sony aligned with Destiny and it would have been a massive success. Especially coming hot off the heels of Halo. Hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure they had no clue Bethesda had their nukes set on Tomb Raider.

I'm sure they tried, at least timed dlc.

But Bethesda may have actually "ran the numbers" right.

Anyone who thinks those numbers for TR aren't a disaster is out of their mind. It's the UK one of the strongest markets for the game. No doubt it'll see a significant drop next week..

I'll wait for NPD numbers next month but I can't see it doing much more than 300k in NA.

It'll see another spike when the PC version releases but i have a feeling it'll launch to little fanfare a year later on the ps4.

I really wonder what the hell SE were thinking. The possible long term damage to the brand could be paramount.

Microsoft has the marketing deal for Fallout 4 and Xbox One will have the mod support before PS4.

Microsoft should have gone full-stop with Fallout 4 marketing, like Sony have done with BO3 and Destiny in particular.

They have really made some bad decisions this gen.

PS4 is going to end the year on fire with SW coming in hot.

TR will be dead in the water if it really is November 2016.

I wouldn't say no one will care. I'll almost definitely be grabbing it day 1 on PS4

I'm a big TR fan, but there are lot of games I'm expecting to available in Fall 2016 that I would choose over it. It will competing with the big holiday games(again) as a year old port....it will be in trouble even if discounted at $40 with all DLC included.

Yep. Square needs to try to renegotiate that contract so that they can release the PS4/PC simultaneously in the middle of next year, which is usually a dead period in the gaming calendar. That way they can give it some marketing spotlight.

I don't think mods first are because MS paid for it, I've always just took it as xbox will get them first because it's win10 and easier to do and it's the lead platform, not that MS is paying to delay PS4 mods. Just that it'll come out when it's ready for both platforms.

Their deal with fallout seems to be much like what they did for Witcher 3. They had a marketing agreement but I saw them do so little to advertise it.

I've seen fallout commercials on tv but nothing on the level we've been seeing with COD and SW with PlayStation branding in those commercials

I don't understand why MS even paid for Tomb Raider. Nobody's buying an Xbox1 for fucking Tomb Raider.

EG - In part is it about having an answer to Uncharted 4? The comparison between the last Tomb Raider and Uncharted has been made.

Phil Spencer: Totally. I'm a big fan of Uncharted and I wish we had an action adventure game of that ilk. We've started some, and we've looked at them. But we don't have one today of that quality. This is an opportunity.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

Wow so soon.

Tomb Raider got eaten alive. UK has been a pretty good indicator for what we might expect in the US.

Come next NPD, this game's fucked.

But Bethesda may have actually "ran the numbers" right.

Well they are getting mods earlier and they got to be the ones announcing they were getting mods and letting people think PS4 wasn't for a little bit.

Bethesda is giving them some preference anyways. Just not near as much as last generation.

And Bethesda seems pretty competent when it comes to marketing anyways. But when you put all your eggs for a few years in one basket (they only put out a game every few years... what was it 4 years this time since their last game), you have to be pretty competent cause the game has to make you more to make up for not having anything else out in the meantime.

And mod support is a significantly smaller get than dlc.

Console owners don't care, they've never learned to.

Are you kidding me? Console owner here, mods for Bethesda games are the only reason I'd switch to PC. When xbox announced it, I briefly considered trading my PS4 in for the xbox just for that. If it weren't for that I already had some good games with the PS4, wanted No Man's Sky and Horizon New Dawn (but more NMS which is probably the only game that comes near or maybe equals my hype for Fallout), and came to my senses and figured if I do that I should go all the way and get a PC, it would have been a serious thought. I even pre ordered a xbox one pip boy edition just so I had that option and still get the pipboy edition.
