Miyazaki considering Dark Souls 3 to be the "big closure on the series"

Bandai Namco will undoubtedly farm some developer to soullessly fill the gap if From bows out. I'm okay with Miyazaki's decision.

I suspect that this is what Lords of the Fallen was intended to be

A back up Souls just in case

Of course, it was pretty bad.

Uh, guys...

Namco has no ownership over either IPs. Their involvement in Dark Souls is localization, and they only published Lords in North America.

To me it seems Miyazaki's response is widely misunderstood, even by the interviewer. All he is saying is that DkS3 is the very last game started before he became president and that he as its president wants From to create new types of games and be aggressive about doing new things. Whether this is within existing IPs or creating new IPs along is not being discussed there.

Good, I like when series end. Would rather see a good series end appropriately than continually being dragged out by unnecessary sequels.

This is great news, as far as I'm concerned.

If we could only have them work on the next Metroid... =/

If their new game is totally different from the soulsborne-esque games and isn't received commercially and critically as well as the soulsborne games I fully expect them to revert back into the soulsborne gameplay template with different settings. In fact I'd really like a souls-esque game in a totally different setting than their previous games.

It sort of needs a ending, or it will turn out like Assassins Creed.

The beauty is that the gameplay can have spiritual successor like Bloodborn, or how Dark Souls was a successor to Demon Souls.

This isn't a bad thing whatsoever, the game will live on but with a different face/form.

Ending at 3 is ideal. The eventual collectors edition would be massive-

Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
Dark Souls 3: Something Something

Still, I hope Sony can persuade them for one more dark fantasy exclusive (+dlcs) to top off their own trilogy:

Demon's Souls Remake: World of the Beasts
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters
Something Something: Something Something

I'm more than good with this. I'd really like to see what they do next.
Please be a mech game of some sort. I'd even be OK with armored core. Please.

At the end of Bloodborne now myself, and I really hope they don't take much inspiration from this outside of the increase in combat speed and the boss phases. It really feels so watered down in comparison to Souls, which I mean is okay considering it's not Souls. I want them to stay separate. I'm actually fairly surprised at the hypocrisy about Bloodborne being so great while Dark Souls 2 was roasted for its bosses. This games bosses are by far and away the worst of the Soulslike style games. I'm not sure if that has more to do with the bosses themselves or the fact that Bloodborne is so lenient on the player with ridiculous visceral attacks, healing hits, 20 freakin blood vials, etc.

P.S. don't take this as me shitting on Bloodborne. It's a fantastic experience, but not what i've come to love about Souls itself. The punishing factor of Souls really holds the experience up for me.

People that didn't play it or follow coverage of it probably don't know about that. I remember being surprised and delighted when I got to Byrgenwerth and the game went the full Lovecraft on me.

I actually didnt know this before playing the game. When I got to a certain point I was thinking "oh so this is sort of the horror section guess it will let up after a while" and it just doesnt. It just becomes more twisted and more horrifying, ending in a climax of tentacles and madness.

Why is it wrong to want a new Armored Core?
Armored Core sequels are not Assassins Creed sequels where it's the same deal every year. Armored Cores 3, 4 and 5 are all completely different games. Plus there's nothing that comes close to the insanity of Armored Core 4A.

Asking for a new Armored Core game is not asking for more of the same old stuff.

Time for Starborne or Space Souls.

Even when Fromsoft were doing Kings Field they made a bunch of similar rpgs, like Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring.

Would LOVE to see a new take on Otogi.

Shit, even Ninja Blade considering their chops in 3rd person action games now.

As much as I enjoy the series overall, I'm fine with this. Even if they don't make another Souls game, they've already left their influence on the industry.

We got Lovecraft Souls with Bloodborne. Now it's time for HR Giger Souls. Go for it Miyazaki.

Yes, Space Souls next please. I still want games with Souls-like combat, but the dark medieval theme needs a rest after four games (Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1-3). I'd love to see what intriguing sci-fi weapons they could make after Bloodborne.

God's had his chance.
A current gen, properly cared for, beautifully crafted Armored Core game would just... melt my icy little heart.

His grasp on the horrific/strange is really impressive though. I hope they circle back around to something Lovecraft again someday.

Last souls type game, nah please keep making this style.

But would love to see more different worlds and lore. Nice to see when a series knows when to pump the brakes and park it for a while.

good now go back to Armored Core

Armored Cores. I think some of the souls combat mechanics (not direct 1-to-1 conversion obviously) would be awesome for an Armored Core game.

You have to admit that the back end of the Souls (and Bloodborne) series is very similar and translates well to other styles of gameplay.

No mechanics from the Souls/Borne games you'd like to see in another Fromsoft game?

Miyazaki has the balls to end a successful series when he feels it has run its course. Classy man that one.

I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.
Though I would be lying if I said I don't hope for more bloodborne/souls style games in the future

I'm mildly excited for Dark Souls 3 but I'm very excited for whatever game they come up with next that goes in a totally new direction

Reading the article, he actually puts Bloodborne in as a part of the conversation, as did the interviewer when he asked the question.

I hope he doesn't mean the end of souls-like games. I certainly wouldn't mind them taking a break and pursuing some other projects for a while. A new Armored Core or even a new IP would be great. Then they can come back with a new souls-like near the end of the current gen.
