Success is great but I doubt we will walk away from the PS4 saying it had a library [of original games] that comes close to the PS2.
No we won't because a lot of games that were once exclusive now also come out on Xbox

So to think we will ever see that again is a little bit of a dream

Probably true but they are doing amazingly well with multiplats so the mass market won't care. We got bloodborne at least and there's plenty of opportunities in the future.

Maybe release more games for it now? I'll be selling mine soon. It's just a netflix box right now.

I agree - there was also an insane amount of hate. But I think a large amount of that was concern trolling (I think the term is?) from people that had no intention of playing the game anyways. I guess one could argue, also, that the more hyped a game is, the more hate it will attract as well.

I don't know how you could possibly think The Order has nearly as much hype surrounding it compared to a mainline Street Fighter game. The Order 2 will be a pebble in an ocean in comparison to the launch of SFV.

You should talk to some people from the FGC

Which was and continues to be absurd. Yes Street fighter one of the list recognizable, storied and popular brands in gaming is obviously going to have more anticipation than a new IP with gameplay mechanics and design decisions that the vast majority of core gamers vehemently objected to. It's baffling anyone would even make this comparison.

SF is easily a bigger property with a huge legacy, SFV is easily of a higher profile than The Order.

Hey, if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. It's not like I'm personally invested in either game.

Exactly which is why his equivocation between the two and how that would reflect on potential sales was straight up batshit.

I don't how you still think this is an "if" situation. It's not. You are wrong. Flat out. There is no "ifs" about it.

Sales-wise alone the statement is ridiculous.

The Order might not of even sold enough to get a sequel.

I'm not talking about sales, only about the rather vague thing called "profile". It would be insane to suggest that an (at best) average selling game like The Order would beat SFV in terms of sales.

I think you saw everyone talking about bingo and wanted to participate?

I'm sorry to inform you that your 1st attempt has already been drawn and your second attempt is invalid.

Please refer to the card below and better luck next time.

I mean, this is a thread about the sales of the ps4. "Feel" and "hype" cannot be quantified or proven in any form and come out as hyperbole.

The Order, which was hyped to the moon and back. .

was it? i recall a lot of doubt clouds gathering around the game since the first gameplay reveal. mostly, people praised the visuals but were definitely reticent about the game as a whole, not just on gaf. it certainly isn't a title that ever struck me as "hyped to the moon and back", quite the contrary, people had to "defend it" before anything substantial regarding it was even out.

I have unplayed games on PS4 already that could probably last me through the entire generation (thanks to Destiny) and the Xbox exclusives aren't so appealing that I feel I'm missing out. That said, I can understand that people are disappointed in the first party offerings so far. The message before the PS4 launch was that it's super easy to develop for, so I was surprised that there was still such an adjustment period for many developers apparently.
Anyway, I'm very happy with how the PS4 performs at home. The console is really nice to use and it even has some core features I haven't even tried.

I don't think SF is higher profile than The Order, which was hyped to the moon and back. Sure, there are big games coming out in 2016, but 2015 has been great as well:

The Order? Maybe when it was first revealed sure. But especially after the whole cinematic bars debacle, that game was constantly shit on.

They only have themselves to blame.

All they had to do was stick to the strategy that made the 360 so successful in the early years. Powerful console, simple to use, gaming focused, variety in 1st party games, cheaper, rock solid 3rd party relations.

They over engineered, over complicated and basically fumbled about.

It would have been really interesting to see a modernised 360 esque console go toe to toe with the ps4. Instead we have the bloodbath we are witnessing now.

It really wouldn't have mattered much. Xbox One would more than likely be at a better spot in U.S. and U.K. but last gen showed that PlayStation is simply the more popular brand as the PS3 caught up to 360 sales even though the PS3 had a far worse perception during the early part of the gen (on top of releasing one year after the 360).

I don't understand how anyone could have thought that MS could crush Sony worldwide as it never happened before. The gen was decided when it was known that the Xbox One would release during the same year as the PS4 (instead of getting a head start like the 360); So basically the moment when the PS4 event was announced before the Xbox One reveal.

Anyway, 30+ Million in such short amount of time is amazing and shows that people were anxious for a new console after how long the 360/PS3 gen went.

Comparison with PS2 is a bit misleading because PS2 had a Japan-only release period of about.. 12+ months? What are the reasonable predictions for PS4 lifetime sales? I'm curious as to where the PS4 will end up, but I'm expecting it won't be enormously more than PS3 numbers.

100 million seems very reasonable at this point assuming the price will continue to drop.

Impressive. Next year looks mega in terms of line up, so I'm sure the train will keep steamrolling. I do think the console could do with a bigger price drop though. It's still not priced at a casual impulse buy level.

So I've been out of the loop, how are MS and Nintendo doing by comparison?

I would say that it's safe to assume the Xbox One is around 16 Million.

Wii U hit 10 Million in July. I couldn't see the Wii U being above 13 million right now based on it sales (I may be wrong though).

I have to admit I laughed hard with that chart :D

I agree, although I think the effect of marketing deals is negligble. Sony would still be beating Microsoft without them.

Or perhaps this is more saying (most discussed): http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/discussed/ps4/filtered?sort=desc

The upcoming games will get hyped, but it's sometime easy to forget that 2015 was actually a fantastic year for a lot of gamers.

I am amazed it sells so well, considering that Sony isn't doing anything. Their first party output for the console is frankly embarrassing.

Which makes these sales kind of worrying. Sony doesn't even need to try, and I fear they will become complacent.

Dafuq am I reading? I mean I know I should expect it, but the SFV/Order comparison?

There was a lot of noise about The Order, but noise isn't hype.

Nintendo is doing awful by any standard(10 million). Xbox is doing OK, but nothing to really be happy about(around 15 million).

I would say that it's safe to assume the Xbox One is around 16 Million.

Wii U hit 10 Million in July. I couldn't see the Wii U being above 13 million right now based on it sales (I may be wrong though).

A five million unit difference? I thought it was gonna be way wider. So that either means Wii-U is doing a lot better than expected, or Xbone's doing way worse.

nintendo's sold 10m wii us, and microsoft's probably around 16-17m xbox ones? it's hard to say since microsoft don't say nothin' to nobody.

wii u will probably wind up with about 12m-14m sold, and the xbox one about 40m-45m sold. ps4 should be anywhere between 100m and 115m. it all depends on what the competition is doing, whether or not any rapid changes happen to the marketplace, and how big 2016 will be though.

I have a feeling the NX is going to struggle even selling half of what Xbox One is doing WW, let alone PS4.

Nintendo basically squandered nearly every bit of mindshare they had with the Wii-U generation of home consoles.
They still hold some sway among a minority of older gamers and the handheld market. But in terms of home consoles, when it has basically been absent from the market for the last two years in terms of mindshare, I don't think NX is going to be flying off shelves anytime soon no matter the hardware it's packing.
