Sony has not revealed non-gaming functions of their VR headset yet, may be we can get a glimpse of it in PSX hopefully as we are heading close to launch next year and this is only one big conference left before E3 which is going to be close to the launch.
Yep, to be honest, I never really gave the non gaming functions of VR a thought until now. Virtual travel sounds amazing.

Same. Damn near sold this Dino Sir one as well.
Haha, hopefully it's affordable when it launches because I could spend hours just observing dinosaurs in VR.

Come to think of it, it was said that Sony and NASA bring Mars to Project Morpheus.

Sony is working with NASA to turn Project Morpheus, its new virtual reality headset for PlayStation 4, into both a science and an entertainment tool. The collaboration, revealed at GDC 2014, will take the feeling of "presence" to new levels, Sony's Dr Richard Marks of the R&D team working on Project Morpheus, said, kicking off with content beamed back from Mars.

Well VR gaming is not going to take off mostly for the next two years because of lack of compelling game content especially AAA to attract hardcore gamers, so non-gaming functions are going to play big roles mostly in the success.

Hmm, depends on what you're interested in, I guess. For me, Sony has been doing a great job investing in games for PSVR before it even launches. Robinson, ARK Survival Evolved, Summer Lesson (LOL!), GT Sport and RIGS might make me wanna jump on board sooner than later.

They're still letting David Cage develop games with AAA budgets. Hard to get crazier than that.

Sony was always passionate about gaming and they want to push the boundaries of the gaming with new experience by taking big risks compared to other publishers. They might have lost money in many projects like Shu said only 4 out 10 games are success, but they create/have diversity in content and try to reach wide audience instead of popular demographic which is why PlayStation successful worldwide.

I dont know I think Dreams is the craziest thing they have ever greenlit. Nearly every Dreams thread has a bunch of people saying its going to be a mega bomb.
Pretty much half of this thread has been discussing how shitty people are at predicting things. We'll see how it goes.

David Cage's nonsense, however, is a known quantity.

Still amazed that they started the conference off by showing footage of The Price is Right instead of a video game.

If I said back in 2012 that Microsoft would reveal the next Xbox by first showing it alongside a morning TV game show, how many people would believe me (lol)?

You can tell how proud they were of that price is right moment.

"Fuck yeah guys! Price is right on your next gen system. Cool, right?! "

Still the announced game library not enough to justify $300+ headset for many gamers especially for casuals and it needs to do more like non-gaming functions by filling the gaps and providing more uses with it in order to find the mainstream success.

They haven't said yet that you won't be able to play your own VR movies. If a smart phone with Google cardboard can do it I don't see why PSVR won't.

I think it's pretty much a no-brainer that they'll incorporate VR video of some kind. They were already demonstrating that tightrope sequence from "The Walk," and we have outlets like the New York Times announcing VR content, and even the BBC sent David Attenborough out into the jungles with a VR camera crew, so that kind of video content is there. Sony would be nuts not to take advantage of that.

I'm also expecting that they'll either stream VR content for live events like E3, or they'll sell VR content for concerts and sporting events with the whole "best seat in the house" mantra that VR has taken up.

I don't know how many units these kinds of initiatives will move, but it will help at kiosks with and early adopters/evangelists to sell the VR concept.

Personally I don't think it will bomb hard. And even if I did I would not want Sony/MM to change it to make it more approachable like some were suggesting.

Well mm are the artsy kids in Sony's stable. They might hit gold or they might fuck up royally, but if the other teams are making cash they'll keep letting mm do their thing just to say "hey look at the risks we take".

Oh, my statement wasn't a criticism of that approach. I'm fully onboard with anybody willing to put time and money behind art with a personal feel. Even if I'm not always a fan of the results, the effort is appreciated.

This is why i love the PlayStation brand. They make games for everyone, even crazy ideas that would never get approved by other companies. I like creativity, diversity, art... Sony and PlayStation is exactly that.

Sony "Claims" to have sold 30 millions PS4's, But wheres the proof?

"They're lying and buying their own consoles"

- Crapgamer 2015

Maybe the media outlets are buying all those PS4 and then giving them for free ;)

Yeah Dreams is perfect as-is. Don't wash it down for the LCD crowd Media Molecule; there are more people out there for this type of game as it is now than even you may realize.

you guys aren't too familiar with crapgamer, are ya?

I've heard about him here, but that was the first time I actually listened to one of his rants.

There was an equally hilarious video in the links...

EDIT: He also made a video with Crapgamer about the PS4 sales.

VR is a risk, a huge risk. But it is the a risk that HAS to be taken.

VR can only succeed if they push it.

This is basically what VR has to do:

"They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, 'VR'. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."

I wouldn't have believed you, but if you told me that they started their E3 conference by showing a morning TV game show, then told me that two years later Sony would be outselling them globally 2:1 I would definitely believe you.
