New PS4 model (CUH-1200) announced

What are the chances of sony announcing a new PS4 model (slim?) at the PS Experience on December?

Don't know if I should finally get one on a bundle on Black Friday or waiting for a new model

Zero.
Sony makes yearly revisions and for the next one you would need to wait until early fall 2016 at the earliest. So it's better to buy it now if you're interested.

Luckily for me, and I do mean thank god for GameStop customer service, I've only spent the amount of money to buy a single ps4. I've been through enough ps4's on the other hand, to equal several thousands of dollars. I just stayed stubborn with the 1100 models and when the 1200 model released that I FINALLY.......FINALLY....FOR THE LOVE OF PETE got one of those lottery PS4's that are actually truly quiet, and all around good quality. I believe that when a person claims to have a product that does as expected that the same of said products should for the most part be of equal quality. What we've dealt with so far is bullshit really.

Went against my ultimatum and decided to give it one last go and I think this one's a keeper. The system's fans do not spin up as often so far running in similar situations. The system itself is much quieter ... the sound it makes is a bit different. Can't describe it exactly but not as rough motor sounding in a quiet room. I guess the the best way to describe the other systems were a less intense version of those things you use to blow up an inflatable mattress. Harder motor spinning the fans on all except this newest one.

The only real quibble is that this one has a high pitch noise that emanates from system in rest mode, specifically when the "Keep Application Suspended setting" is enabled. Luckily, doesn't make the noise when I either turn this setting off or keep it on but enable USB charging all the time (latter which I did because I like App suspend feature and the fan noise from the USB charging mode is incredibly quiet and non-intrusive). It's something I'm going to ignore but I totally agree with you that these things are a lottery if you really want one.

Got the 1200 model a while ago and I just started to play shadow fall in multiplayer a little. Was the framerate in this game always this bad? Single player is just fine, but in multiplayer it feels like it sits under 30 a lot of the time. I'm playing warzone with 24 players and I can't remember if it was always like this or not. I played it a bit on both the 10xx and 11xx models ,but that was over a year ago. Point is that I'm getting paranoid over whether or not the new model might fiddle with clock speed throttling leaving us with lower performance.

It's not locked, but it should definitly be higher than 30 fps. I think the fps changes make you think it's lower. MP usually runs between 45-50 fps.

Got anything else besides the digital foundry video running the forest map to back that up? That video barely has any players in it. I know it's not locked and I'm certain it's not sitting around 40 fps. It may sound bad, but I can feel when a game runs at 40,50 or 60 fps. I really can. Or 30 or lower. I'm used to all ranges from having set my own framerate caps in pc games depending on my needs for years. While using both gamepads and m/k.

Are all the consoles being sold right now the 1200 model?
Amazon is replacing my launch unit with a new one, and I'm curious if I'll get the new model or the old one.

Also, can anyone advise what's the best way to get the data from my old computer to the new one?
Just swapping the HDDs would be enough?

There's another video, made more recently, and it makes the framerate look better, running mostly 50+, but that's in the same map and also low player count. Other than that no real "evidence" than my own experience. I don't remember any real issues with the framerate dipping below 30's, but I haven't played it much recently (actaully not at all for atleast a year). But consistently hitting sub 30 seems way off... Though I don't dispute your experience, I think the fluctuating really just makes it feel that way. And in anyway, I don't think it has to do with throthelling on the 1200.

Thing is it doesn't seem to fluctuate very much. Only time I can tell it's hitting ~60fps is in each base spawn area. As soon as I leave that it drops to and stays at what feels like 30-ish . Single player seem to run much smoother. It feels like it. I haven't locked the campaign at 30 I might add. SP is supposed to run at about 40 pretty often I hear.
So unless the campaign is just way more consistent in it's rendering the framerate has gotten worse in multiplayer over the past year.

EDIT: Seems to be down to the amount of players really. 24 player matches runs at what feels like 30 or lower.
Tried a 10 player warzone match just now and it ran between 50-60 all the time. Really wish they'd add an optional 30 fps cap for multiplayer as well.

Does anyone have this console to talk about the fans and how quiet it is? More than my PS3 ever has, my PS4 literally sounds like a jet flying at 4000 mph seriously

I have a CUH-1200 and it is completely silent. Literally the only sounds I ever hear it make are a gentle whir when it reads a disc upon insertion, and the little beep when coming out of rest mode.

i couldn't trouble you for an audio clip could I? We can compare the old with the current. I recorded an audio clip of the current ps4

Yeah the disc drive is still a little louder than I'd like but I recently traded my old launch PS4 for the taken king one and it's much quieter. Plus, physical power/eject buttons!

I can confirm that the CUH-12xx model unlike the previous two is quiet even during heavy scenarios in games that made the first two go insane. I went through four of the first two models and they were all loud as hell in games putting the console under heavy load such as Killzone Shadow Fall, TLOU:R, MGSV Ground Zeroes, Infamous First Light after about 15-20 minutes of gameplay.

The 12xx model in the same scenarios after hours of gameplay remains quiet. It's not inaudible, but compared to the other two it's like a night and day comparison. Annoyingly enough Sony managed to resolve the excessive blowing fan noise and instead create a slight pulsating whining sound (coming from the fan so it's not coil whine.) Mine does this from time to time. It's annoying if I think about it, but really faint enough not to be disturbed while playing. It's slight enough for me not to care considering the trouble I went through with the previous models in any case. As of now the CUH-12xx model is easily the best one you can get.

I just want to confirm before I order a console online that the Uncharted bundle is the new model. It is for sure, right?

I got an uncharted bundle yesterday for free from buying a new tv at Best Buy. I'm gonna give away my old model is it as simple as swapping HDDs and deactivating the old ps4?

Is that in the settings or do I do that online?

It's in the settings, and you'll essentially need an extra hard drive to do it.

Or if you're confident and don't have an extra, large enough usb hard drive that you can use, you could do this:

1 - take hard drive out of new ps4
2 - put it in a usb enclosure, temporarily
3 - backup from old system to new ps4s hard drive (that you put in the enclosure)
4 - move hard drive from old ps4 to new ps4
5 - restore from new ps4s hard drive to the old ps4s, which is now in the new ps4

I found that the easier / lazier method is to backup all the saves to cloud, then set up profile on the new system and pull the saves down. And finally go to library and redownload all the games I still want on it. It will take forever if you have a lot of games but you can just have it do it overnight. Issue with this method though is you'll lose PT (and any other items that can't be redownloaded, not sure what those are).

So this new model seems to be pretty good as far as noise and other things are concerned... Maybe time to jump in for me?

Is there any new bundle coming for the holidays/end of the year then? I already played all the Uncharted's so no interest in that one..

Hey

I'm probably close to pulling the trigger on one of these PS4 models soon. I'll want to upgrade the hard drive though, whats the currently recommended brand and model? I may try for 1.5-2tb.

Thanks.

got the new 1tb COD version..

jeez, the fan sounds like a river is running in my room, its very loud..

normal?

Even the new Ps4 models will get a little loud in a quiet room under heavy load. As long as it doesn't sound like a jet engine you should be good.

Overall, it should just be moderately more loud than a Ps3 or Xbox One.

I've found my 1200 has gotten a bit louder than it was right out if the box but its still far far quieter than my old 11xx ps4. The only thing that gets the fan going to a noticeable level but still not as loud as the old model, is sitting in the helicopter menu in mgsv.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
swapped out my launch PS4 for an Uncharted bundle one

holy crap, what a difference! my old one would spool up fans in 5 minutes and be super distracting, the new one is dead silent

gonna play a disc-based game tnght just to make sure the disc sounds good, but i'm real happy with the 1200

My now month old and fairly heavily played Destiny TTK ps4 is I'm happy to say, still nice and quiet. As many consoles as I've been through because of mainly noise or other issues its just nice to finally play without needing headphones or vibrating disc drives or bad hard drives. Sony quality has not been great this gen but its nice to see them updating the model to address main complaints.

Quick question
Would anyone say it's worth it to trade in my old PS4 for the new model currently?
$225 trade-in at GS while getting the BF bundle (and UC) so is it worth the hassle?
