Just Cause 3 on PS4 has 3min 30 sec loadings (post Day One patch)

A bit LTTP lol but here it is (PS4, patched):

Initial loading and logging in: ~2:10 minutes.
First death (just crashing a plane) loading: 46 seconds.
Second death loading after making some chaos: 35 seconds.
Third death loading after making even bigger chaos: 26 seconds.
Fast traveling to a close location loading: 31 seconds.
Fast traveling to a far location: 46 seconds.

Whatever this guy ran into, I couldn't replicate it.
That's actually not too bad considering size of world but obviously could be better

I love that the author's misspelling of... something resulted in a capitalised marmite. Vegemite is better, though.

I'm fairly sure it's a deliberate Marmite. It's a common adjective over here (Meaning 'something people will either love or hate')

Edit:
Can someone explain the use of "Marmite" in this article? Was it a typo, or this some UK expression I've never heard?

Okay, best go into more detail

Marmite is a small earthenware pot. But no-one ever means that when they talk about it. But it's also a yeast-extract based savoury spread in the UK, which had a very successful ad campaign based around the fact that lots of people hate it ("My mate, Marmite / I hate Marmite).. And so the term fell into the vernacular to mean, well, what I said above.

Its the worst running game on ps4 so far for sure imo. Its a technical mess.
I doubt my hdd is dying, and the game is fully installed. I bet that when Ill play offline without being connected to the internet with my ps4 the load times will still be bad.
I've been watching this PS4 stream, and I've yet to see such a terrible framerate (though of course he's not necessarily doing what you've been doing). His load times after death seem to be about 10 seconds, and when he went into the map it's not giving him connection issues. I wonder what the difference is?

For other technical issues, there does seem to be pretty aggressive LOD and pop-in, though the stream quality is too low for me to tell much of anything else.

Must have spent an hour or so watching people play this on Live From PlayStation and I'm not seeing any of the mentioned performance issues or excessive loading times anywhere close to what these people got. Obviously, I didn't see them start the game up and that's probably going to be the worst bit and when they died the first time it was well below a minute and after that it seemed pretty steady to me.

There was a German bloke who was intentionally blowing himself up and it looked like great fun! :)

Not in any way suggesting that they did;t get really bad loading times but I'm yet to see anything that concerned me at all.

Not sure where this idea that it's a technical mess on consoles but it looked bloody gorgeous to me. I used to be impressed by map sizes but now the amount of "stuff" in the game as you play it. Was impressed with the PC gameplay that had previously been shown and I'm more than happy with what I saw of the PS4 version, I'm sure there will be things missing that you get if you're running it on a really good PC but I'm pleasantly how much they've managed to get out of the console version. :)

There are some console videos on YouTube now and I'd recommend that people who were worried about getting the Xbox or PS4 version watch some of those as I feel they represent the game that I've seen far better than some of the really negative comments.

EDIT:
I've no idea which iteration of the game the streams were using, I'm assuming the launch patch is already out now though.

As someone who's been really looking forward to playing the game on PS4, this is awfully disappointing =\

Now that's not as bad. Hopefully this is more the case vs. what the article posted in OP describes the times as.

The 2TB drive I have installed in my PS4 should speed up the times by a little as well

Now that I think of it Mad Max on PS4 also had unexpectedly long loading times ar certain occasions. Like for example when you were doing a death run and wanted to restart. I didn't use a stopwatch, but I remember thinking once or twice that my console froze. :)

Apologies if I've missed this, but does it run better on Xbox One? I'm used to running multiplats on my PS4, but I'll happily get this on Xbone if it runs better there(it has more space anyways).

That's not a long loading time or a brutal one. That is the single worst loading time I have ever heard of in a game. Holy fuck how can a death load be so catastrophically long?

There was an Unreal engine game on a certain platform that had 10 minute loads on retail.

The last Turok game made by Iguana Entertainment had 15 minute load times on the GameCube.

That is exactly what I was going to say. Wasn't that a selling point for Cerny during the Playstation Announcement? One of the reasons they went with GDDR5

RAM speed can't overcome the relatively slow hard drive. Load times will always be a thing because even though you increase the speed of everything, the asset complexity and size increases along with it.

It doesn't have multiplayer so you're good to go PC, hopefully the JC2 multiplayer mod gets remade for JC3.

oh ok, thx. I remember reading an article somewhere saying "it won't have it at launch", so I was thinking it might be added later. I'll go PC then.

Got my copy pre-loaded on my SSD on PC, thankfully. I got boned by the PC version of Arkham Knight, so I don't think I could have taken two Ls on screwed up ports this year.

The framerate turns bad when you start blowing up a lot of stuff in the ps4 version.. for me at least

Just had a 3 minute loading screen. I did a challenge in a base I already liberated. After doing the challenge I opted out and back to the main game and was greeted with said loading.

It was going for at least a minute before I grabbed my phone and started the stopwatch, adding another 2:20 until the game finished loading. Absolutely mental.

Not even sure why it happened either, it was a sniper challenge so I didn't even move from the spot. It did reset the area [that base with the huge dish] to its original state during the challenge, perhaps it had to "reset" everything back to the state my game was in before starting the challenge.

yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that it doesn't stutter at times.

Of course, I've not played this yet but I have played a few open world games on the PS4 and when they were only showing the PC of this game I was more than a little concerned by what the console versions were going to be like.

From what I've seen of this I have no concerns about the performance of the PS4 version, There are times that it stutters but the amount of stuff going on when this happens means that I'm really not surprised by it doing that.

I emphasise seen as I haven't played it and playing a game that's stuttering can obviously compromise the feel of the game, Having watched a few videos now I have actually ordered it do I will be in a better position to comment on it then.

This is kinda fucked as I don't have a rig that'll run this well and was going to catch this on PS4. Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 have given me enough loading for one year.

Relegating this one to my LTTP game for next year.

Looks like the game needs a few patches. I'l wait until Feb or so and hope for a price drop. I have a backlog that grew by a factor of two over this weekend.

Edit: First frame rate measure. Looks like drops into the low 20s every time an explosion goes off nearby.

Like Fallout 4, the game drops to 0fps on Xbox One? :/

It looked like it for one segment. I thought the video stopped on youtube, but I could see the blue line changing.

This is interesting as I've played for about 2 to 3 hours per session and never had 15 minute loads. Def odd.

He said up to 15 minutes so it might have been a one time thing. No idea if there is a preview program update that is helping or causing this.
