NXGamer first look at XboxOne version of Just Cause 3 (hint: it's baaaaaad)

BiGBoSSMk23

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Should I stream this on YouTube ?

I'm experiencing the worst of slow downs on PS4 and I thought I'd share.

Mad Max was a better looking game to me and it ran like a dream. Shame that the original JC2 team didn't get to make this instead of Mad Max. =/

Mad Max had some great filters, but I wouldn't call it great looking outside of that. It had some dated character models and other visual assets.

Just Cause 3 is colourful, but has some surprisingly dated looking textures.

Is it not possible that, like the developer said on Steam, they'll be releasing a patch sometime in the next few days that may fix a bunch of these huge issues?

And how the fuck can someone claim to have "The Day 1 patch installed" when the game still isn't out for a few days? Isn't it possible another patch will drop that fixes (although unlikely eliminates) a bunch of these big problems Monday or even early Tuesday?

day 1 patches are called that, but they aren't held to release date, they make it available as soon as possible so reviewers can review the game based off the latest build.

They let people know that a big patch was coming, and then released it early because some were able to buy the game prior to release.

Not according to that Steam post. It's dated the 27th and says people are playing the game in an unpatched state -- and there should be one "in the next few days". Just wondering if a new one dropped yesterday or today, and if it had any effect.

Otherwise, looks like the game will launch somewhat broken.

Edit: Going back and re-reading the Steam post by the developer it looks like that patch is out -- they say "The next 24 hours" on the 27th, so yeah. Damn :(

Maybe not on Steam then. That version wasn't mentioned in what I saw.

I can deal with fluctuating framerates, but I just can't deal with long load times anymore. Too many games lately have unacceptable load times, and this one is even worse?!

It's funny you say this, because in the first year or so I've had my console, load times seem significantly better than last gen, I thought it was one of the defining improvements. However, games like Bloodborne (improved dramatically post patching), The Witcher, Fallout 4, AC: Syndicate (to a lesser extent) and it appears now Just Cause 3, have started to show some noticeably longer one. You still get some phenomenal ones -- I think Until Dawn doesn't have a single one in the entire game, even selecting continue game from the main menu cuts straight to gameplay, it's pretty impressive.

This is ridiculous, I need to build a gaming PC stat.I had no intentions of picking this up day one or anything but good god this is not cool.

All the whining about this, and the average framerate in the video is 27.something....I'm stuck wondering how is that bad? The crashing, the long load times - yes, bitch about those. But 27 fps average is hardly a slideshow.

How can be possibly say it doesn't ruin the fun you can have? It most certainly can and will, if a game runs like warm shit I can't enjoy it at all. It's just bizarre to me that performance issues no matter how bad don't seem to mark a game down for reviewers (apart from Total Biscuit).

Because it actually includes all the time running around and getting to the action.

A 27 average framerate will always, always be terrible, because it means it's dropping to the low 20s far too often -- and in this case, during the times when Just Cause is actually, well, Just Cause.

By your same logic, why complain about the long load times, since they only account for a small fraction of the actual play time as long as you don't die too much?

If you had just watched my ps4 stream you have seen many moments where it dips a lot more than 27 fps.

We are not whining, we are calling a bummed out because this awesome game runs like shit on consoles

Dipping to 27 fps at times is kinda fine, but 27fps average is bad, actually. It means that the game might dip to way below 27fps at times.

Average FPS isn't a good indicator of performance because it's inflated by all the time spent with little to nothing happening. The fact that the game runs in the low 20s and under whenever anything is happening on screen tells you everything you need to know about its quality.

I think this game has optimizations problems, that said having that shameful CPU on these console doesn't help at all

What does MisterX have to say? I thought the NXE was supposed to allow games to run at 120fps on XB1 while barely running on the PS4?

Here's hoping they can patch most of this, but games should not launch like this, it's crazy that publishers think this is acceptable in the first place.

Is it crazy though? Every time there 's a debate about what constitutes an acceptable framerate tons of people defend poorly performing games. "I used to play games at 15 fps, 30 with drops is fine", "I survived Blighttown, I'm fine with this" and so on. Plus quite a few of those poorly performing games sell millions on consoles. So I ask again: Are publishers crazy in thinking that poor performance is acceptable or are they actually right?

That and the release date timing are not going to help. I wonder how much of it will get patched within the first few weeks.

He'll probably say something along the lines that it's going to take until next year for devs to really understand and use the huge amounts of power unleashed by the update.

Well if they dont show off the console versions beforehand how could a potential buyer know?

Seems like a game like this should really be taking advantage of GPU compute for physics, especially on PS4. Pretty stupid if they really are using the terrible CPUs for physics.

I'm not sure why they couldn't get this to run at a consistent 30fps on dedicated hardware like the One and the PS4. Hell, lower the visual quality and resolution. Apparently people would have preferred that.

Why don't they delay it till Q1 or 2 of next year? Technical issues aside, I am worried about its performance in sales. Historically, do games that comes out in December that are not GT or SW:TOR do well?

Delaying it seems like a win-win.

If the problem is a CPU bottleneck based on the physics, lowering resolution and GPU-based effects isn't going to do much. It really just needs more optimization.

Invest in a decent PC people. Better than these toasters.

Yes, very helpful, thanks for that.

Back on topic.

If the long loading times are down to memory leaks then I assume this is fixable to some extent?

As for the framerate, without some serious optimisation and/or some visual downgrading, can it improve that much over what we currently have with a few patches?

I wonder why they didn't delay it. December sales probably aren't going to help that much. A February release like the last one probably would've resulted in a more polished product.

But alas, it looks like yet another game this generation releasing with major issues.

Between this and the whole Tomb Raider deal, I now recognize Square Enix as a company that makes more bad decisions than good video games.
