Rez is such a no brainer for VR. I think they might have actually sold me on this.
I can only assume that it's also compatible without it, considering the previous console versions.

It's just one of the best games out there. It has great music, great gameplay, great story and setting. It's a real experience. Unlike most trippy games I've played this has actual intellectual depth.

Good, because I want to play this, but don't want to deal with VR.
Maybe Rez was something you had to be there for? I don't know, I mean I played the demo of the 360 version recently and the style was neat, but I got the feeling it was more intended as an audiovisual experience than a game. As far as rail shooters go I prefer Panzer Dragoon's fantasy style more myself.

(Nothing against VR, mind. I recently got some Google Cardboard-style phone VR goggles to try it out, and while I couldn't get any of the VR apps to work properly, it makes a really nice personal IMAX theatre if nothing else.)

He was on stage, and Mark MacDonald from 8-4 mentioned that Mizuguchi was involved in the project over the past 2 years. With the hint of a new area at the end of the video, I imagine he's been fairly involved!

It was, but a responsive headset view should make that easy. I hope they improve that part when not in VR play mode.
