Microsoft should have moved up the release of ROTTR to October 6th. It would have been far enough away from all the big games to where it probably would have passed the 1m mark while Xbox One fans were waiting for Halo 5.

Poor Crystal Dynamics.

Probably not. By that point it'll be old hat and they'll probably release it at the same time next holiday season, in a sea of the next COD, AssCreed, Just Dance, and any other significant AAA game I'm forgetting, not to mention the very likely launch of NX.

ROTR is dead. Let it rest in piece. And let this serve as a lesson on how to kill a promising franchise's potential with absolute resolve.

that really sucks too because by all accounts it is a stellar game. I am part of the issue because I have a Xbox One and PS4 and decided not to get the game. Mostly because there is too much to play and I don't have the time. So I made a conscious decisions to hold out. I still may get it on Xbox if I can get a good deal and I have time to play it. Or I may just wait for the PS4 release which will probably be cheaper will all DLC.

Only if Sony maaaaaaaaassivley over-ship, but they wont sell those consoles quickly.

35-36M would be great result for Dec31.

They will easily ship over 36 million. After last quarter they already had shipped 29.3 million. Last year they shipped 6.4 million during holiday quarter and this November alone means extra 700k in US alone compared to last year.

No the gap shrinks and grows in NPD it's contested. We have no predictions for next year because MS changed their release strategy.

It shrunk for what one month this year in Halo month by 30k, the rest was all Sony wasn't it... I think in terms of contested, it's a none contest.

Yes we don't know MS strategy, but we can use good common sense that it's going to be extremely hard for them to close that gap without spending a lot of money on either 1st party games or exclusives and there doesn't seem much appetite for that now.

Uh the point of TR was to prevent PS4's from selling based on buying TR, and using it as an alternative for Uncharted to give some gain to Xbox ones for having to on their system only, along with stopping it from contributing in buyers interest in uncharted or Uncharted 5.

In fact, they pretty much succeeded in that front. I also don't think Uncharted Collection will really help Uncharted 5 more than any other Uncharted, i think the heavy bundling along with a cheap price is the real reasons why those bundles were pushed. Just like ACU for Xbox last year.

Did we skip Uncharted 4 or something?

I haven't been following this.

So are people apparently gleeful that TR tanked because they don't like the new TR? Or is it the XB1 timed exclusivity? Both?

For what it's worth, I think the game tanked mostly because of the other games coming out. Even if it had been released on both platforms, I think putting it out amongst Fallout, COD, Star Wars, and Halo was suicide.

It's a good game that got buried by a poorly-thought-out deal in the long term and horrible release timing. There's nothing gleeful about it. It's frustrating seeing long-term potential squandered because of how bungled the business side of things was.

Even releasing the game in Jan or something might've alleviated some of the pain since that's a fairly quiet month, but they were adamant about having it out in November for some reason.

I'm curious to know what the result of this timed exclusitivity deal means for the industry as a whole and the future of similar practices.

Interesting stuff:

GH Live up big vs Oct
GTA just missed top 10
20 games in Nov 2014 >300k units; only 12 in Nov 2015
As a quick question, would 3 game at ~2 million or up be unusually high for November as well?

I get the sense we're going even further into the land of very few winners sucking up all the oxygen in the room.

I think Guitar Hero is probably a nice gift option for the holidays, especially for more general or younger audiences where you might not want to buy them Call of Duty.

It will lead to an end of the awful practice of timed exclusives. You know, like Final Fantasy 7. /Rolls eyes

Serious question: could PS4 make it to 40 million this year?
I don't think so. If I remember correctly, they were little under 30 million shipped after Q3 CY2015 and shipped something around 6.4 million in Q4 CY2014. So their shippments in Q4 would have to be over 10 million, compared to 6.4 last year.

damn TR less than 200k?!!!

Microsoft and Square are very happy with Rise and the dev team, thanks for the concerns. Crystal and Eidos Montreal made a game we are proud of and we appreciate the overwheling number of positive reviews and fan feedback. We're looking forward to the Game Awards next week where we are nominated for Best Action Adventure and Best Performance for Camilla. Wish us luck, hopefully it's just the beginning of the recognition Tomb Raider and Lara Croft receives this year. It's cool to see her on top again for the second game in a row. We're all fans and for me it's been the honor of my career to be a part of such a fantastic legacy. Next year 20th Anniversary!

Source on the difference between the two? Very curious

I'm just going by chart placement.....interesting to see Halo drop that fast.

I don't know actual numbers....but I waited till November to see the buzz and reaction to it.....its a decent AC

So Xbox's best November ever (even during their 360 dominance in the US) is still behind Sony's best .... which was this month?

MS and Xbox are solidly number 2, hell of a job Kaz and Sony, what a turn around from last generation.

Where is Amirox and his death of PlayStation post lol.
