So apparently PS4 is jailbroken

Why in the world isn't there hardware encryption in the modern consoles. It's fairly easy to embed TPM chips now days and then you have pretty damn strong hardware lock.

If they can access running and already decrypted console (as in, it's on and can be used) then this kind of protection offers little protection. Full disk encryption is designed to protect in situations where the hardware is compromised but it's not decrypted yet.

But it's already `haxed`.

Here in my town You can pay 60-80 bucks to fill 2Tb drive with any games. Can't use PSN account.

But how is the normal user going to be able to apply those changes without an entry point? The entry point so far is Webkit, and i'm sure that they also need this for the RAM patching (what does this result in by the way? Any info/proof regarding that?). If that entry point was closed after firmware 1.76, most people wont be able to use it. Its the same with PS3. If you update past firmware 3.56 (or maybe its 3.60), you cant apply the hacks.

now they have access on full firmware inside the ps4, this can lead to other exploit for other firmwares and yes 3.56 and 3.60 are hackable on ps3 now. This can lead to a custom firmware for at least users on 1.76 firmware. It's a base thing but very important.

Why should they care honestly?

PS2 was pirate heaven, and it didn't matter.

The gens aren't even remotely similar. Do you know the cost of games development now compared to PS2? Additionally, Sony may be leading in all territories, but it's competitors are non existent in other areas where it's dominant, particularly east Asia, Eastern Europe and other countries outside the UK where piracy is usually greater? Why would it benefit Sony to have their games pirated or their system jailbroken there?

I don't think this jailbreak is even a big deal based on what's said, but when you're spending hundreds of millions on games, paying for exclusivity for dozens of titles, you don't want your system pirated. Look how much piracy impacted the PSP.

Put SteamOS on it.

So it can run even worse?

I don't get this fascination with [Insert OS here] on a PS4, isn't it known you can easily build a PC that outperforms it for the same price? :^)

This, people are so blinded by personal greed to see how taking something created by someone that took a lot of hours to finish without compensation hurts. I know first hand hiw bad it was on the psp, you could hardly find one not jailbroken that was second hand. Despite selling a lot of psp's Sony was bleeding from people not buying the software.

Since its x86 based, would PS4 emulation be possible?

I know the 360 and PS3 have been very difficult due to their custom hardware.

60FPS Bloodborne, or locked 30FPS would be nice.

Perhaps it will be as easy and nice as the OG Xbox when it is completely hacked. Psx emulation? Sure. It should be able to emulate everything up to n64 easily.

Ps4 archecture is pretty similar to pc right? If we could get enough data it would be interesting to see if we could start developing an emulator.

It's just a linux distro. If it could be installed natively them it should be running just as good as on other systems. Proper drivers for GPU, etc would be huge problem though.

Could be not that huge of a problem, the open source drivers have gotten to a decently playable state and I'm sure people could hack in support to that.

Having access and getting something to run is two different things though :) It can lead to something indeed, but i'm more interested in knowing how close/far off this is. Yes, the entry point with Webkit works on firmware 1.76, but not above. Very few people are on firmware 1.76, so it would be kinda useless for most people if that is the only entry point. Where does it say that they have full firmware access by the way? The way i understand it, when they say "next step", that is what they're working on next. It doesnt say that they have done it (the RAM patching) yet.

How do you install CFW on PS3 firmware 3.60 and above?

Wow...that's interesting. I haven't heard anything regarding piracy on PS4 till now.

I heard about a few months ago, apparently originated in Brazil. it allows users to take their activated PS4 consoles and make them work on other consoles. So basically other PS4's were made clones of the original, and were able to play the games the original PS4 had downloaded.
It was patched by Sony, but obviously some people don't update their firmware, so it works for people on lower firmware, just without Internet access.
