So apparently PS4 is jailbroken

can't sony just patch it?

If, or when this exploit is released to the public, Sony will almost certainly patch it. But the exploit will always be open to those who don't upgrade their firmware.
Depending on the exploit, they may be able to create their own custom firmware.

I don't see the point of homebrews on consoles anymore, when it's so easy to use a PC on TV's now days

Piracy and cheating online. That's the purpose. Can't run PS4 exclusive games on other than a PS4, so you gotta CFW to get your pirated games.

can't sony just patch it?

It has already been patched, but there's some subhuman scum that is really determined to ruin everyone's fun online and keep their PS4s unpatched so they can exploit old firmware bugs.

I hope Sony fixes this soon. I don't want to see another platform riddled with heavy piracy and cheating.

Yes I know jailbreaking can be used for other legit purposes but I'm not going to sit here and pretend like the real purposes of jailbreaking a console is anything but piracy and cheating with legit purposes coming in a very distant third.

Hm. Probably not going to risk my PSN account and hundreds of pounds worth of games for this.

That said, if they crack open the PS2 emulator and make it disc-based (like they did with the PS3 one I believe) I'd be tempted.

but PS4 could sell a lot more, return of the king dude.

I don't care if a few people wants to go through the hassle of pirating their console to play for free games that maybe in their country are worth a monthly salary. I'm ok with that. I just hope that it doesn't affect negatively legal users by opening the gates for cheaters in games or something like that.

For a little bit......everyone now has the ability to share and report so easily thanks to recording fratures.

Expect console bans to happen much more easily and quickly.
I hope this works. If somebody wants to have fun by ruining everybody elses experience, he doesn't deserve an online functioning console.

I was talking about how SteamOS game performance isn't quite as good as it could be.

The performance is worse in some games because those aren't native ports. They usually use a wrapper that makes dx9/dx11 games compatible with opengl. A native steamos/linux game can run just as good or better than a ie. windows or console version.

Anyone else think were way past the point of simple piracy nowadays? If a company really doesn't want their shit stolen, they ENSURE it.

My paid version of FF4 on android will NOT RUN unless it is connected to the internet

3DS is still, and probably never will have any simple answers. These new consoles are like fort knox

Depending how good the Jailbreak is this could move more hardware but maybe less software. Depends on how tough it is to Jailbreak.

RAM dumping is pretty neat as it will allow even more research into how you could run another exploit on a higher firmware possibly, and RAM patching is really cool since you could modify whatever is going on at any given time, like Cheat Engine on PC. Granted, this doesn't do much of anything right now and in the event it does make progress, it will be a small userbase taking advantage of it. You can pirate games on Wii U now but I assume most of NeoGAF doesn't even know that.

I assume you mean original Wii and gamecube games on the WiiU, otherwise you do know something I don't.

Piracy isn't to be promoted here or anywhere on Neogaf. (talking about it is fine). Anyone who does so will be reported and probably permanently banned.

Edit: This news is pretty sad tbh. If they figure out how to run it on the latest firmware then I consider GTA:O and many othr good online games to be ruined by kids wanting to cheat.

Edit 2: My original post sounded a bit harsh so I'll clarify that these are the rules you agree to when signing up to NG not me being a dick.

A shame. I'd assume there's really no way to stop the avalanche of cheating and exploitation and illegal stuff that comes with this sort of thing just cause some people want to watch the world burn.

Well, it was good while it lasted.

I don't know if GAF allows saying the name of the homebrew that loads WiiU backups over LAN or SD, but you just have to google it.

It's ridicules.
Do they do it for science? Buy a computer to run Linux.
This will only cause the old stupid problems appear again.

But it's already `haxed`.

Here in my town You can pay 60-80 bucks to fill 2Tb drive with any games. Can't use PSN account.

that's not jailbroken though. the way they do that is that they load up a PS4 with games, set it as a home PS4 for the account those games are licensed to, and then flash several PS4s to think they are the same as that PS4. This is actually modifying the PS4 to run homebrew and the like

Yes except Batman runs badly even on current high end cards, and I don't think the PC version is optimized for a 1.8Ghz multicore at all. Having the main thread on such a slow processor is a big problem, but can be addressed more easily for consoles obviously.

EDIT: 1.6 Ghz. My bad. AMD. Basically 2x AMD A4-5100?

Batman runs badly if you want over 30fps and are sensitive to stuttering. The 750Ti can maintain 50+fps for the most part, but I'm sure it has dips. My 7870XT is quite a bit more powerful, but can't hold 60fps so locking at 30fps feels better to me. Batman was very well multi threaded, but it doesn't seem to like AMD CPUs. The 9590FX down clocked to 2.5 GHZ drops to 22fps and averages 45fps so the PS4 CPU would probably be terrible.

I'm curious how Windows and games would handle the PS4 architecture. How would you get drivers? How would games view the single 8GBs of ram? I assume it would treat it like integrated graphics on PC. Not sure what that does for video ram requirements. With Arkham Knight as a terrible example. If I go over low textures I exceed my 2GBs of video ram and performance tanks.

Just get PT back on PS4s.
THATS ALL I ASK!

I hope it comes back in some way eventually. It might be one of those games on the Lost Levels website in 5-10 years.

They do it because they can. On top of that, it's a challenge for hackers. Sorry but “deal with it“.

Having access and getting something to run is two different things though :) It can lead to something indeed, but i'm more interested in knowing how close/far off this is. Yes, the entry point with Webkit works on firmware 1.76, but not above. Very few people are on firmware 1.76, so it would be kinda useless for most people if that is the only entry point. Where does it say that they have full firmware access by the way? The way i understand it, when they say "next step", that is what they're working on next. It doesnt say that they have done it (the RAM patching) yet.

How do you install CFW on PS3 firmware 3.60 and above?

it can be done trough flasher, i knows, it's not only a software solution! But it can be done anyway. For the firmware full access i read it on wololo site, in the article about this exploit. Anyway even if it's not full access yet, it's only a matter of time. cTurt is was crystal clear, the console is considered "jailbreaked" now. There are more info on wololo site.

Saying deal with it about hackers shouldn't be a thing

Hackers are fine until they are not interested in piracy. The industry of personal computers and consumer electronics was made and is essentially driven by hackers, people who just want to make the most out of everything that has some processing power.

I agree if you are talking about cheaters. Hackers that just want to break the system to see if they can and maybe get some cool uses out of the hardware are fine.

I don't mind or care about hackers that do things to their own consoles/ computers. Long as they don't effect others I am fine with it. But we all know that the hackers that just want homebrew etc end up helping the hackers that want to cheat.

Hopefully the cheaters can be detected and dealt with. When Dark Souls was on GFWL I had trouble finding summons and invasions. I bought the PS3 version, because it had a huge community and summons worked well. I got ganked more than a few times by "low level characters" with maxxed out stats.
