Sony announces partnership w/ KojiPro, New IP, 1st game "console exclusive to PS4"/PC

Kojima could create a game where you play as a cereal box and it would be critically acclaimed.

He has nothing to worry about.

Critical acclaim doesn't equal sales. I agree, he's a legend, but I'm sure he's feeling a variety of emotions about this whole process.

I guess Xbox fans. But exclusives are never a good thing for everyone.

It could've been worst if Kojima join Sony WWS as first party studio right?
Now that Kojima remain independent and only the first game partner with Sony, the future is bright for everyone.

Who in their right mind would be mad about Kojima going to Sony?

This is the best thing that could have happened. he will have access tot he best tech and create the games he wants too.

I'd assume people who only own an Xbox? I mean it's not that hard to take their perspective.

Anyway, I'm excited to see what he can do when it's not a MGS game.

Unless his new game is SCL, Steel Cog Liquid.

I just woke up to this and I'm wondering if it's the lack of coffee but if I read it right this is amazing news.

Here's hoping to a great project. Wishing the best for him and the team, I truly believe they deserve it. :)

Guys, we're talking about an independent developer being funded by a console publisher.

This is not really the soap box for the evils of paying a third party publisher to keep a game off a competing console. We have like 20 other threads for that if you're looking to have that debate.
Sometimes I really wish there was a test to determine how capable a poster was of being rational before being allowed on these boards. Would make it a much more pleasant place to visit. Oh well warriors will be warriors.

People that don't like third party exclusives. I'm not mad on the idea of him creating a studio and signing an exclusive deal. I would have thought if he was going Sony he would join them as an employee.

Edit: I don't think I worded this properly. I would rather him be independent, but that would involve a big publisher and there aren't many based in Japan. Maybe him going independent and with Sony to start with is for the best.

Yeah, it's a great way to get started. Hopefully subsequent games will be independent.

Good. It's best for everyone that he's not associated with Konami anymore. Sony did the right thing partnering with him, and I'll be looking forward to playing his next project if it hits PC.

EDIT: I guess I'll be playing it when it hits PC.

Damn, this is pretty huge.

Glad that Kojima will continue to make games and I'm glad to see him step away from MGS, as much as I adore the series, I'm okay with it ending.

Wow. Kojima got a taste of that pc power. Not even Sony moneyhats could keep him off Windows. Good news for gamers.
Which along with all the talk of innovation leaves me with a feeling that he's going to do a VR game, explains why they would let him release on PC too because of the limited VR market and a chance of higher sales. I'm interested to see what he's got in store regardless.

Just make sure he doesn't spend years wasting away at an engine. Play for a UE4 license or something, otherwise we'll be waiting till 2020 for his next game at the earliest.

I wonder if Sony/Kojima wanted to announce this at PSX but Konami caught wind of it and stopped Kojima from attending.

So glad that didn't take long. Really curious what he is working on. First person horror game for Playstation VR? Or something else? I could see Sony throwing money at Kojima to try and recreate what he had done with PT.

Sounds like PS4 will get it first and then PC later. Cool, I will of course get it on PS4 first and then play the PC version when available.

im so happy about this. PS4 is the new PS2!

So great to see Sony pull out of the muddy waters that was PS3. hopefully sony get the rights to Silent hill in the future

I'm genuinely surprised people are as psyched about this given what a mess MGSV seemed to end up being. (I hope he can cool it with the misogynist BS, also.) (This isn't meant to be a drive-by post, though. I'm genuinely curious if people are not at all wary of his next game given how many listed MGSV as their disappointment of the year in the other thread.)

I think that the general consensus is the narrative/pacing is "a mess". Few would argue that the game itself doesn't play beautifully.

Personally, I liked the whole package.

Edit: Oh fuck. Top of the page. Incoming "I thought the whole thing was shit" posts.
