Kojima's new game will be published by Sony, is also coming to PC, not Silent Hill

Games being multiplat should always be viewed as a good thing, the sooner the gaming community moves away from idolising the big three the better.
Let's not pretend that PC doesn't get the same type of adoration. It's just in those who handle themselves differently and paint a bad picture out of us PC enthusiasts. That upsets me.

Can you imagine if he makes a metal gear like game. :p
I mean, I won't complain since I love that kind of gameplay, but I'm sure there will be a lot of people disappointed.
I just hope he's able to create something he's really passionate about. Not even sure what I want at this moment.

With my luck it will be MGSesque. I actually don't really like those games. I am not a fan of the genre but loved PT, ZOE. That is why I am hoping for something else. I saw someone hope he goes to make splinter cell during all the speculation yesterday and died a bit inside.

So a game coming to more platforms is bad. Thanks for your input.

I'm not saying it's bad. I should rephrase. I thought it'd be a good thing for gamers in terms of discussion. But it's clearly having the opposite effect. Certain PlayStation fans getting all hyper-protective over "their" game, certain PC players beating their chests about specs.

It's good news, and I think it'll invite a lot more AAA console games getting the greenlight. It's just a shame that the discourse among fans of the platforms in question is so divided. That's what doesn't sit well with me.

Hopefully with this announcement, the word choice will become more mainstream. Can we actually discuss the sheer amount of games that were PS4/PC at PSX now?

That was the most PC-friendly conference I have ever seen, without mentioning the platform by name obviously. PC is like that embarrassing family member everyone dances around mentioning at Thanksgiving.

I think Sony’s strategy is misunderstood this generation, which is perhaps fortunate for them because they’ve been so successful with it. I wouldn’t go so far as to say Sony doesn’t see the PC as competition, but they definitely don’t see it as the immediate, direct competition. Adopting the “PC/PS4” strategy has paid incredible dividends; while the ultra-hardcore complain about how “confusing” the terminology is and how they have so few “true exclusives,” in the interim they’ve been very successful at keeping games away from their primary competition and they are stomping them. And, hey, look at the result—the package they can offer publishers is a lot more interesting and lucrative for both parties than if they had to go forward with a “Sony or nothing” strategy. Sony is obviously happy, developers are happy (as they keep doing these deals), the projects overall are more profitable, Sony puts less skin in the game financially, and ultimately the game is available to more people overall.

For me, the more interesting question is how they transition away from hardware in 8-10 years. That’s obviously the long-term plan and is the aim of Playstation Now (not backwards compatibility, which continues to be the refrain of people who completely do not understand what the service is). I’m kind of excited to see how they transform the business overall; hardware exclusivity is obviously not the future.

The PC is not going away.

This by Y2Kev is a good take on what I think.

i was just pointing out the thing with him having a history with "playstation" and not one with pc, because people tend to have this misconception rather often.

Fair enough; I thought the original Metal Gear games had only released on MSX and later NES. But I think it's fair to say that he has a much stronger association with PS over the last two decades than he did with PC.

Cool to see Sony acknowledging PC recently. Between this, Helldivers, and the upcoming software allowing for streaming to PC, this is a big step up for them.

If I could play Bloodborne at a consistent framerate, I might actually be playing the DLC right now. Console gamers can be as offended as they want, but console exclusives aren't benefitting anyone but the big three.

itscoming to PC AFTER it comes out on ps4,that oculd mean months delay. either way, sony supporting pc more than MS is just sad, but awesome. MS just wants to keep a closed system closed.

How long do you think we have to wait for this game?

Probably four years unless Kojima has a firm grasp on the game itself and the direction he wants to take it in outside of the initial pitch. While he probably had more than a simple "I want to make a new IP on your console" sale to Sony, The scenario details and pre-production stuff most likely won't even start till sometime next year. I mean, he just got back from vacation. The man deserves a well-earned rest.

I dobut it would be that large of a gap

Maybe three months at most.

Still not as good for consumers as it could be but at least it's not an exclusive?

Btw why are people getting mad over objective facts here? Does someone stating they want to play the definitive edition, which they perceive to be the PC version(which in almost all cases is), really bother you that much?

Punished Kojima

And of course it's disappointing that the game cannot be a Metal Gear or Silent Hills, but I will stay looking forward to the announcement as if it were those games because Kojima is one of the greatest game developers of all time.

Console gamers can answer this too now that remasters are here to stay...

Would you buy the latest offering of your favourite series if it were released toward the end of PS4's life, or would you wait for the highly probable PS5/XB2 remaster?

I know I'm glad I didn't wait for The Last of Us Remastered or PS4 GTAV.
I never have and never will wait. If I want to play a game I'm playing the best version available day 1.

Now that's a better explanation. Thank you.

So a Kojima made Siren game isn't too far out of the realm of possibility now?

Either way, I'm just happy he's away from the company that shall not be named.

Seems like kojima is getting the same type of deal as the no mans sky devs. He retains full creative control and sony gets too show his stuff off at e3 and such. Pretty good deal

Personally, I never saw the point in waiting. I prefer to enjoy things while I have the chance, you never know what life throws your way. The only way I would wait for a game, is if it isn't available on the systems I use.

I think Alan Wake is closer to the model this release will probably follow than Bioshock/ME. (Those ended up on other consoles as well)

Well, my point was mostly that it was well possible SCE would publish without having extreme expectations regarding the IP etc, as there was some discussion about that going on. I wasn't necessarily expecting it to end up on other consoles or anything.

Happy to hear its not Silent Hills. Hopefully its not a horror game. I know Kojima has a twisted mind and PT was very good but horror games are very meh. They are short 6-10 linear corridor games that are forgettable in the long run. Kojima is so much better than jump scares, gore and all that other mindless shit. His new game needs to be an 15+ hour action game that is narrative driven and full of memorable characters just like MGS.

You need to play more horror games.

I would agree.

What's the point of competing with a platform that is not only impossible to compete with from a value, performance, and technical perspective, but also utterly pointless. Console gamers are unlikely to cross over to the PC space due to the barrier of entry, better strategy to lock out your primary competition while saving money by not purchasing full exclusive rights.

It's also nice from a consumer perspective because these games are indefinitely preserved on PC. Having an exclusive is nice to fill out your lists wars on GAF, but is extremely short sighted as far as preserving the industry is concerned.

If Sony are publishing it, why is it coming on the PC?

Either way, I'm happy. Will wait for the superior PC version.

Kojima probably wants to also pub it on PC and that was part of the deal. so basically Sony gets console exclusive and Kojima gets to also release it on PC for more sales. i didn't read details about the partnership but i think that's how the deal came to be.

Uhhhh......what?
Most of MS games are coming to PC...

Yeah 'm pretty sure that's how it went down too.

To expand on this, of the thousands of multiplatform games released over the past decade I can't think of more than a handful (or even that) which weren't (sometimes eventually, after HW improvements and community fixes) definitive on PC.

Can you?

this shit ruins threads ffs.

I would love a a ZOE type game, hopefully one where you can get off the mech, and fight on foot. Maybe a bit too ambitious.
I would've died a bit too. I never liked Splinter Cell. :p

I just hope it's a stealth game of some kind, we really don't have enough of them around, and they are my favorite kind of third person game.

I know this retort has been made in other threads, and I know it's a new IP, but with all of these horror/stealth requests, I almost wish Kojima was working on a new Siren game.
