Not to mention that one of the brainiacs says that it isn't even going to come out on the PS4, but will be on the PS5.
I expect it to be on PS5. 3 years is the earliest this will release and there's every chance it will be longer than that, which puts it extremely close to a generational transition. So even if it is a PS4 project, there will be a PS5 version.

Ryan's really predictable. Immediately after that tweet I posted that the next episode would be primarily about this.

The way he runs Podcast Unlocked is really sort of strange. A lot of the episodes actually focus so much on Sony and the PS4 and how MS has to respond and blah blah blah. It's really weird how he can't just focus on Xbox itself.

There's so much good and interesting about the Xbox One that it doesn't need to rely on what Playstation is doing to have discussion, but apparently Ryan is incapable of discussing it independent of Sony/PS.

So he's your typical gamefaqs user then ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

i don't think 2018 is an unrealistic expectation for a game from this studio. the only time kojima has taken an inordinate amount of time with a game is when he was developing new engine tech along with the game (mgs4, mgsv). none of the other games he's worked on has had any development time issues. so assuming he'll go with an existing engine like UE4, i don't expect an mgs4/mgsv length of development

He also said that he wants the first project to be smaller in scale than V. While I'm not expecting 2018, I think it's possible.

I hope it has nothing to do with tactical espionage action whatevers. Go crazy, Kojima! Do what you want to do! Follow your heart!

Unless you heart wants to do something that looks like Metal Gear, in that case, follow my heart!

So it's foolish Sony for paying "all that money," but dude pledged to personally ask Phil the next time he sees him if he even tried to make this happen. "Did you even try, Phil? Why didn't you open up the Windows coffers and build Kojima a money bin! Aren't the dump trucks we delivered SE's money back yet?"

cause he's just a fanboy.

I'm really glad things are looking up for Kojima again. I bought the MGS Legacy collection for PS3 when it came out. It was my first time playing through the series and had a complete blast.

Hopefully this new game comes out this gen since I plan on getting a PS4 next year.

I mean he did take like...what, 5 years making MGSV.

EDIT:

Actually you may be right. Didn't think about the whole engine thing. Hopefully it can make a 2017 release

He is setting up a brand new studio, that in itself is a huge amount of work. He likely hasn't even decided on what type of game they are making, and it's not like the studio has been around long enough to have some old ideas sitting around. unless it's going to be a small scale title 2018 is really pushing it unless we get a GZ type prequel. This is not like creating a sequel, unless he is making a sequal/reboot to something he is going to have to create new characters, new assets, develop a new story and new world and then try to incorporate that into a fun experience. These things take years, RAD starated putting together ideas for the order almost 5 years ago and they could only manage to put together a 7 hour linear single player only experience.

In addition to that Kojima hasn't exactly been known for abiding to a schedule or a budget with his time at Konami. This is a big risk for Sony no doubt, it would have been an even bigger risk for MS given that most xbox players probably don't even know who Kojima is.

PlayStation IGN became irrelevant once Colin and Greg left. I have no idea why they weren't replaced by gamers who game primarily on PS shortly afterwards, but that`s for another topic. At least Goldfarb is back though.

I'm not a fan of Goldfarb. He may be a perfectly affable fellow, but he's one of the most perpetually misinformed people I've ever listened to on a podcast. I continue to be astonished by the fact that he was not only hired at IGN in the first place, but that they hired him back to be in charge of news.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
The question is, would he highlight those indies and bring up the JRPGs, if they weren't Xbox (timed) exclusives, or is it just about the platform they're on?

Highly unlikely. I'm not even sure he's played any of those JRPGs.

Yep. Its a notch in the belt. Just like FF13 was for MS. It wasn't even about supporting JRPG's, it was about taking away that big exclusive from the other guy.

That would not be a problem if they didn't just leave all the Japanese developers that were promised investment and support high and dry right after that. Mistwalker man...its a shame.

You think the generation is only going to be 5 years long?

Thats like thinking inFamous 2 was going to be on the PS4.

To be fair MS got Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Their focus is clearly on AAA exclusivity while Sony is clearly aiming for hearts and minds.

Isn't it common belief that MS will lost all those games as exclusives when their sequels are announced/released?

Yea, and with Mistwalker, MS was really just using Sakaguchi's name to market the games. Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon were really developed by Artoon and Feelplus, respectively. Mistwalker proper is a very small studio. I think they're less than a dozen people. None of the console games they worked on were developed internally by them. Their core business is mobile gaming.

Titanfall and TR for sure. Not sure if Sunset Overdrive is going to get a sequel. Anecdotally it doesn't sound like SO sold that well. That fact that Microsoft never gloated about its sales (even with PR spin) is kinda telling.

As far as we know, I believe Microsoft has a right of first refusal on a sequel to Sunset Overdrive.

So the series is either getting an exclusive sequel, or may very well be dead altogether.

The whole exclusivity nonsense discussed during Podcast Beyond this week was SMH.

Just because MS wants to pretend ROTR isn't a timed exclusive mean that Sony is also pretending. Unlike FFVII which is "First on PS4", " Console Exclusive" is a different meaning.

yup, beyond is no bueno without the stars.

So what kind of money would Kojima realistically need?

He obviously was over spending on mgs5.

He doesn't need a bigger budget to make a game though. As to me it's the worst entry in the series.

I think a horror game would be most easy to develope while making it big and grand.

I didn't listen to it all as I had errands to run.

* Ryan says he was thinking in Baseball terms when he made that tweet with the Sony being the Yankees and Mocrosoft as the Red Sox

* He looked physically ill when they mentioned how Sony's coddling up Tim Schafer, Yu Suzuki and Hideo Kojima. He said he will personally ask Phil about it

* IGN contemplates that the game's 5 years away and may be a PS5 launch title.

* There was some talk about how risky it is to give Kojima this much money on a new IP and that may have been a factor why MS didn't want it

I'll listen to the rest when I get back home.
Good old Mccaffrey. Remember when he begged Microsoft to let him host their E3 conference?

These dudes are hilariously dumb but if I was a betting man I would probably bet PS5 as well.

Not "LOL Kojima takes so long" but because we are 2 years into the generation and in 3 to 4 years we will be near the end of the cycle. At least I hope we will be near the end.

And 3 years would be real hopeful. New KP is literally starting from scratch. Will be fun to see in a few months how many people they have hired, if they will have a presence at GDC to recruit people and what not.

Is this guy for real?

Of course. It doesn't take much to be a game journalist, so the standards are really quite low. So these folks aren't even very good at hiding their clear preferences and fanboy desires. At least real journalists can sometimes hide that shit behind a good facade.

Somebody just posted this on facebook. I did a google search and found posts of it all over the place online.

Wow is this some pathetic levels of delusion. Why can't we all just be happy that Kojima has escaped the clutches of an extremely oppressive publisher and celebrate in the future fruits of his newfound creative freedom? Attacks like these are juvenile and petty yet seem to account for the majority of discussion surrounding this online. Even going so far as to be retweeted by "journalists" only for them to then either recant or go back and delete their messages after people call them out on it.

Why are you getting trolled by Facebook posts?

EDIT: Ah, Konami with the salty pettiness again.

Man, that Sony with the quickness. The moment the rumors came out Hideo was leaving, you just know they were all perked up with what Kojima will do next, just counting down when it was official, and bam!

The New Yorker suggests that Konami leaked the news to Nikkei in order to preempt Kojima's announcement.

Are they going to be sabotaging Kojima's attempt at happiness every step of the way from now on? I mean sure this one in particular isn't anything truly damaging but it does set the tone for what might happen.

Imagine if every time Kojima announces a new game, Konami comes out with a new metal gear as well.

Reading about how he essentially wanted to go away for good while to a random island, in The New Yorker article, paints a soul crushing experience he had the pass year.

Thank goodness for that "Hollywood" friend to push Kojima forward and not give up.

Hmm, I just thought of something. Since Kojima made Zone of the Enders, what are the odds that he'll be making something like that again or something in the vein of Omega Boost?

I am so glad Kojima is away from Konami. I think Sony realizes his actual potential where Konami didn't. I think they are going to give him free range in a sense like they so with Naughty Dog (I mean MGS was a Sony exclusive for a while). They know what he can do and they trust him
