Tales of Berseria coming to the west on PlayStation 4 and PC!

We need to go back to Vesperia's graphics with Graces F battle system. ;_;

So why exactly are they unable to match the visual quality of Tales of Vesperia ??? I don't get it.

Why do people keep making this same mistake? Visuals =/= Graphics.

The only thing Vesperia had going for it visuals wise was the bright and colorful art style and the cell shading in combination with fixed camera angles in towns that allows them to frame every scene.

That literally has nothing to do with graphics or rendering budget. If we're actually talking graphics, it had nothing special whatsoever.

while in the last generation there was barely any competition and therefore it was easier for the Tales of Games to shine/be in the spotlight

in this generation we get DQ11,KH3,Persona 5,FFXV, Nier Automata and many more JRPG Games.

i already said this, but im really dissapointed about the development of the tales of franchise...i'm not sure if it will go that well in this gen

Playing Xillia and the other sequels after Vesperia is pretty brutal. They should go back to Vesperia's art style.

I do wonder which would win out in the end? A franchise with one great game every generation or a Franchise with Three okay games every generation.

At the same time, it would not even be the same, because going to a 3D perspective introduced a ton of challenges for the small and low funded Tales team, they had to recycle a lot of areas and assets, and corridors had to become repeated areas just to account for this, which a bright art style really would not solve.

I think to change how they do things visually, they would technically probably have to change how the game was designed entirely.

I don't necessarily think their current art style looks bad at all, it can be really beautiful

But its also true that Xillia came out in 2011, and after 4 years and a new generation, the same style does seem pretty old.

But again, i place blame largely on the budget and manpower the Tales team is given by Namco bandai to push these games out. In addition to the lack of technical resources. They are basically working only with what they have on hand.

It upsets me when people call Sakuraba mediocre. He's just doing what he's told for Tales. Dark Souls 2 and Kid Icarus uprising prove he is far better than that in my mind. If he was allowed to actually compose most would agree.

Definitely, I probably could've phrased that better. He's not a mediocre composer, but his Tales output has been the same stagnant, generic fantasy music for... a lot of years. Shiina's few tracks in ToZ served to highlight just how tired Tales Sakuraba is even further. (Zaveid's theme is unnnnfffff)

Xillia 2 was kind of an anomaly. That OST had a pretty refreshing jazz/electro vibe to it that I'd really like to hear more of.

Hasn't been brutal for me. As much as I'd love vesperia's artstyle I don't think they need it. All they need to do is just get better at the style they are currently using. Unless they are gonna put effort into it like for naruto I don't wanna see it.

it depends on how long this gen will go, but i don't think, we will only see one Title of this Big Franchises

FF15 - FF7 Remake and FF16 already in Production = Could be 3 FF Games in the best case

Dragon Quest on the other hand gets also many spinn-offs and i have high expectations from DQ Builders. Then there should be also an HD Remake (Which will probably look better than the Tales of Games)

Man I love that tune that's playing in the trailer, I can't get enough of it.
Hopefully there are many tunes in the game like that.

I really do enjoy Sakuraba's music, but I want something else right now for Tales. Shiina's tracks in Zesteria blew everything Sakuraba did in that game out of the water MO.

I still have Xillia, Xillia 2, Hearts R, and Zesteria to play. I have to make this a $20 franchise until I can catch up.

I think Zestiria looks OK. They need a but more inspired/detailed character modeling and a larger texture/poly budget for the environments, but other than that it's fine. Certainly not looking like a PS2 game :p

Zestiria made me go back to Abyss.
Zestiria is much better than Abyss (I just played the latter last year so I have a direct comparison).

Nice trailer, I think it looks fun. I don't gave a lot of hopw for the story, but I liked Tales of Hearts R despite the stort.

You better mean in regards to combat/graphics/artstyle or you and me is gonna have to have words.

On a separate note I have a pair of boxing gloves that have "WORDS" written on them.

I mean in regards to combat, graphics, gameplay system, characters, and story. Dungeons I guess I could give to Abyss, though neither of them excels at those (the same holds for characters and story -- neither of them are good, but Zestiria is better).

Booooooooo. Abyss is easily the best characters/story for a Tales game. Everything else about it is mid tier on the Tales list but it's top tier for those.

I'm a weirdo tho. I thought Symphonia was boring/almost irritating and it's characters were blaaaaahhhh.

I'm always curious to hear what Tales game people think was best in regards to story/characters. Super divisive and leaning on older ones I feel, though most people prefer simpler times and flatter characters for this kind of stuff.

Symphonia is a lot worse in pretty much everything than Abyss, it's true. I really think it only has its status as a "classic" because it was the first Tales game for many.

Abyss is probably the most polarizing game in the series lol. It really seems like ToZ will be pretty polarizing as well.

Symphonia has not aged well.

Or because it's actually a really good game and warrants its status? Cmon man...

Zestiria was announced the same day as the Japanese version. They wanted it out earlier but there were various delays.

There's a possibility Berseria's Japanese release date is going to be December 15, 2016 because next year that date lines up well with both Japanese game releases and Tales anniversary stuff. The west could be the first half of 2017.

But Zestiria's Western annoncement was in June.

Yeah and then add stuff like the walking animation and it's worse than PS2 (FF12 etc..).

It's worse than the xilia games, which were themselves worse than Vesperia.

Obviously PC filtering and resolutions do make the game clearer, but you know what I'm getting at.

Xilia 2 and Vesperia on PC would look far better than Zestria.

Let's say that PS4 version is a complete disgrace, at least.

Looking lame, I couldn't tell if that was a male of female character for a good while no thanks to having to listen to it muted. Everything from the protagonist to the lame samey looking werewolf enemies through out aren't giving me the best feeling. Loved xillia 2, getting Zestiria today, but they're gonna have to do better than that for their next trailer..

I completely skipped Zesteria but I'm really looking forward to this one. Glad to hear it's coming to PC as well.

Everybody keeps talking about how the character design is bad, but somehow it seems like a lot of people prop up Vesperia's. Huh? That doesn't compute at all for me. Tales character design has pretty much always been about the same unless we are going all the way back to Destiny and Stahn's epic mullet.

Also Vesperia is so overhyped here on GAF, sheesh. It was alright, but it doesn't even come anywhere close to touching Phantasia or Destiny. To me, Vesperia isn't much better or worse than any of the new entries. A bit more production budget maybe and that's about it.

I really don't know how anyone could be confused if the lead is male of female in this given her character design.

She looks like a JRPG Quiet, right down to the nonsensical ripped pieces of clothing on her legs.

Long vocals, live instrumentals and full orchestra recordings all with nice budget blow short synthesizer pieces out of the water, news at eleven!

I would say Vesperia is at or at least near the top when it comes to 3D tales, especially the recent ones. A lot of people haven't played Phantasia or Destiny so they usually don't come up.

Yeah i couldn't even finish a playthru of chronicles.

I had a hard time getting into Symphonia as well. There are things I like about it but it failed to really grab me. Is there a reason why the camera is so bad on the world map? It's hard to even figure out where I'm going.

I played Symphonia for the first time several months after completing the 3DS port of Abyss and I found it way more enjoyable. The only thing I thought it did worse than Abyss was the way Overlimits and Hi-Ougi triggers were handled.

2016 is gonna rock.

Yeah. I like it and as was said there are times where it looks quite pretty.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Nah, Abyss is FFVIII. Definitely the most polarizing title of the Tales franchise.

FFVII of Tales is either Symphonia or Vesperia. Generally considered one of (if not) the best in the series.

How about Graces, Xillia, and Zestiria? :p

I'm guessing. Xillia = XII, Zestiria = XIII.

I'd give VII to Symphonia. Vesperia lacks the "it" factor

Vesperia can't be VII because it actually has a likable and not BS main char and cast.

I'm not impressed by what I heard of Dark Souls II, Phantasy Star Nova, Star Ocean 5, Exist Archive... Sakuraba is just uninspired nowadays.
