[DF] Ark: Survival Evolved Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

I know but this is still bad. I also know that PC performance is not good and that you need to brute force better performances with high end hardware. But i also know that game was downloaded over 1M times on X1 and i wonder who can play this game in this state.

Yeah no excuses. The game has been in that state for over half a a year on PC and no amount of GPU power can brute force it. They piled on plenty of content with little idea of how to implement it properly so all they did was number inflation. They've been claiming optimization was coming since July last year. By now they could have tidied the game up a bit but they'd rather waste lots of man hours making content for week long events that nobody ever ends up happy with.

I think people like this game because it's basically Minecraft with dinos. That why I like it anyway.

Got the game on the winter sale not knowing about the issues.

Afraid my gtx 670 might explode if I try to run it.

Honestly this article is more useful than the alpha/beta ones - with EA you still have to put money down and the prospective audience isnt limited to who has been invited to an alpha/beta.

What the hell are those red lines on the right hand side of the video that keep appearing?

Holy fuck is it bad.

If you're asking people to pay to play it, at least get it running and allow for tweaks in fidelity and design as time goes on. I'm not asking for a perfect framerate in early access but this is unacceptable.

The PC version looks way better than the Xbox One version too, it's just terrible, hope they'll optimize and work on consoles as much as possible...

Honestly I wouldn't even bother trying with that card in its current state. I had it on a 3gb 580 and it was a mess on low with resolution scaling halfway. Even now on my 970 pushing high at 1080p will result in frames below 20 on stuff like a rex. Having ran a private server I gotta say the netcode is utter crap too as I spent 80% of my time having to spawn in items to give back to people who lost all theirs since the game loves to randomly have your body vanish through the ground when you die.

Besides on PC it's completely dominated by well established power tribes by now who just grief the new players and the devs aren't even gonna do a reset at launch, so it's just a slaughtering ground for new players if you don't have some friends setup already that you can join.

People keep buying it though.

From what I've tried of ARK I prefer The Forest. It's also fantastic looking and runs great.

The thing is, even powerful cards like a gtx 980 or a FuryX paired with a 6700k have a very hard time to deliver 1080p/30fps on high settings, on Ultra settings even a Titan X has a lot of problems.

DF should probably correct themselves about it selling 1M on the XB1 - that figure includes all the free trial downloads.

Oof, that 9 FPS.

That doesn't change the fact that it still runs like shit.

its supposed to run like shit.... its early. What is the point making a spectacle of its performance when its not fully optimised??

Doesn't this game have a demo for people to at least try? I know other Game Preview games do

It's hard to fathom why Microsoft were promoting Early Access at E3 as a plus point.

Because there's a clear market that will buy these games in alpha stages.

I mean, it runs like crap on PC. What made them think it would run better on Xbox One?

Big difference between being optimized for hardware and not being optimized for hardware.

The point of consoles is that games can be optimized to a single piece of hardware.

So much for console "optimization". No doubt the game will improve but that will apply to the PC version as well.
DX12 support for PC has been confirmed.

About what I expected from my time with it. The jank is unbelievable but you can punch dinosaurs so it evens out. It's a super fun game.

Not a fan of the commentary in this DF video - jut seemed to be a general conversation rather than anything that insightful. Could have gone over the techniques used etc or compare the EA settings to what the PC version can do on their 'console PC' they built.

Runs like shit but I play it everyday. Nothing out there does what Ark does.

Same, I'm playing it on Xbox and loving it (and hating it at the same time) with some mates. Its not pretty but its just been brilliant.

(I have a PC with a tripple Titan X setup and it still runs bad on that in 4K but I play on Xbox One)
