[DF] Ark: Survival Evolved Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

While it's pretty rough both visually and performance-wise, the one thing bothering me more than anything else is the full screen motion blur. Who ever thought it was a good idea to blur out the whole damn screen every time you move the camera? How can you ever see what's going on without standing still? I even understand things like chromatic aberration, but not full screen "blur everything so you can't see what's happening".

I can only speak for PC here but it likely applies to Xbox One too. If you're talking about the stuttering that I think you are then that is server side and generally very common in the game. I'd imagine the issue extends to Xbox due to the nature of it. They've tried other servers too but it's clearly either their netcode or the simulation itself as nothing so far has fixed it, or should I say nothing had fixed it when I last played about a month or so ago.

I have the linux version, and only a 750ti. So I can If I set the game setting pretty low I actually get similar frames to what the frame counter in this video shows. It can dip to single digits often. However I don't get that crazy stuttering.

Altho now that you mention it, I think I have run into that network hiccuping while playing and I recognized it as such. If that's what's happening in this xbox video then that makes it look worse than it is.

If I play this game at low and medium settings, it runs about 20-25 fps at around 720p. I know that's unacceptable to many posters here but that's good enough for most people who want to play a fascinating and fun mess of a game.

My gf loves this game even tho it looks like ps3 and runs like n64 on out syetem. She perceives nothing negative about the performance. INTERESTINGLY, she can tell that it looks much better on a 970, but that doesn't ruin it for her.

I see people posting that it runs shit on high-end multi GPU set-ups. But are there even SLI/CF profiles ready for this game?
Watched the DF analysis, game looks awful and runs even worse. Early access or not, it's beyond terrible. WTF.
Early versions of games usually aren't pretty and run at unplayable framerates. Optimization happens in later stages.

Well I've ended up using the test hour up and even though it's a technical mess on X1 I still enjoyed it and may double dip so I can play a local game at home(multiple X1s).

This is after owning the game for months on PC that runs at 1080p epic. I guess if you enjoy the game the many technical problems get forgotten as you play.

This game is the worst technical achievement of 2015. I almost feel bad for the people who developed it. Almost.

If they implemented a 30fps cap some areas might be OK but it's still a complete technical mess. That tearing, the resolution, those stalls, and overall framerate stability are awful.

I'm also just very confused about the look of the game. Many of the effects don't seem to jive with the assets they created and it looks really bad. Never seen that before in UE4. Turning some of them off may create a more cohesive look and improve the framerate.

This was the first and only game so far that I couldn't run at 1080p with a decent frame rate on my GeForce 970. Well I COULD get it to run good at 1080p but at the expense of turning all of the effects down or off completely. No hope for the xb1 version at all.

Figured it wouldn't run or look good on consoles since it's about the most demanding game releasing in 2016 for PC. It's just doing so much more than other games it's ridiculous. Runs pretty well on my modest rig though with high textures, high aa, and med LoD. Only real framerate problems I have are when you're in a base with like 100 dinos and such, but that's gonna be a problem on any system since it's so demanding on the cpu and gpu.

Ive played a bunch, its a blast and runs fine for early access

The game is supposed to be out in June, right? That's 5 months.

The Uncharted 4 beta was 5 months before launch and was mostly north of 50fps. I know the games themselves aren't comparable but performance is far from where it should be at this point. I'd expect this game to be running in the mid 20s most of the time if it has a 30fps target on console.

I played this game before on 'epic' settings and I think it's a really poor use of the UE4. I just don't think it looks good for a game running on UE4 at all.

They also posted an article.

That image quality really is something:

It looks like a low-res internet stream.

The bad performance isn't unexpected. It doesn't run well on my PC at all (GTX 970, i5-2500K @4.5Ghz). Lowering the resolution is the best way to gain performance with this game, so it's not surprising to see the game running at a low res on the Xbox One.

Despite the performance issues, however, I've been pouring a lot of time into this game the past weekend. It's highly addictive.

Like i said, i have a blast playing the game. With regards to performance, there are issues for sure but nothing that A) Can't be resolved or B) take away from me enjoying the game exponentially. The only thing that i would say MUST be resolved before launch is servers. They just need to add more servers or a server queue and id be happy with the game as is. Based on the fact that every server in the game is almost always completely at capacity (despite the fact that they've added hundreds since originally launching on early access for Xbox) i imagine that the majority of players are enjoying their experience. If they weren't there would not still be demand for more new servers.

Runs like shit on my 980ti, shudder to think how an x1 handles it.

I'll give it a very slight pass due to early access but it seems optimisation is very low on the list behind adding more dinosaurs.

And yeah just because its "alpha" doesn't mean its immune to critiscm especially when selling it. It should be encouraged so they know exactly what needs fixed.

While I understand that the game is not final yet and I'm sure they'll improve the framerate, I don't know if they'll improve it enough to bring it to PSVR, which is something they announced they were doing. I hope they do.
