By the way, I thought about asking about this for a long time now: what the hell is "Higurashi When They Cry" supposed to mean?

Higurashi means Cicadas in english. The proper title should be "When Cicadas Cry".
I guess Mangagamer wants to keep the "Higurashi" name so that anime fans recognize the series.

Beaten with a bat.

For you.
make me!

let me be clear, you can't say me how to react, neither you have such a power, nor the need to police me. I will be unhappy about good games not selling as much as I want.
Do we have understanding finally?
And don't get me started on Trails sales, because if you continue, I will.

that's rude...
Letting your feelings out of sales numbers is probably for the best, especially when the games are already doing well for the gente.

Because thats actually the normal sales for a VN outside of Steam. You could check out the VN community thread and see what the publishers think is a success, because 5000 sold is mostly a success.

Steins Gate already sold one million copies, on many platforms, true, but I don't understand why you keep insisting that bare minimum is what devs or publishers want.
Not saying that Higurashi can sell this much, I just said that those sales look sad and they do.
Also I don't know how much it costs to release a VN, and I don't believe all VNs cost the same, for obvious reasons, so I don't even take that into account.
Anyway, I'm done with this talk.

so you want me to talk about Trails sales, obviously
you should just have said so right away! why beat around the bush?

Danganronpa releasing on the 18th.

Oh hey, remember those 14 chapters of Higurashi Mangagamer promised to release?

Yeah... I don't think we'll even see the third one. Pity. :(

I would like to believe that a decent amount of people are waiting for the whole thing to be out before buying.

I wonder who's killed more SteamGAFfers? Iosfe's XCOM antics or Rhaknar's Darkest Dungeoning?

Speaking of XCOM, one thing I've noticed in a few vids I've been watching is that there is a global character pool you can edit, export and import. So essentially you could make a custom list (and appearance info) of your rag tag motley crew of friends and have them turn up in your game automatically. They also don''t just come in as soldiers but as NPC's, Scientists and Technicians too.

less than three weeks left! I should finish games I'm playing until then, not that it's realistic, but I'll try.

that's pretty cool actually.
Can you import someone's else list?

I should really get back on Darkest Dungeon now that it's out. Was just getting my grove on in the EA version when a lot of things changed. That and it's got achievements now, the ripest carrot on a stick that I crave.

Don't know, I've only seen the buttons at the bottom saying as such as no one has really gone into much detail about it. I can't imagine it's anything more than a xml, csv or similar file though.

I think I want to replay DmC on my PC but I heard it's locked at 30fps. Any mods to change that or make it look nicer?

Looks like a Nep-Nep game...only with no Nep-Nep.

Wow, metacritic wasn't kind to it. What's the deal there?

missed this post
I don't really know, it's Compile Heart's game, so nobody expected it to be good, I only bought it because I thought it's IF's game and it is a nice game, unfair but fun, doesn't remind much Compile Heart games too.

Arbitrary resolution and framerate so will go as high as your hardware is capable. Also supports practically any aspect ratio too.

As for mods there's a couple of sites around and one, www.dmcmods.com , that has a collection of a lot of the decent ones.

I imagine there'll be a SteamGAF character pool for XCOM2 shortly after launch.

They released #2 for a couple of bucks more than the first which some people got annoyed by plus it hasn't been on sale wheres the original game has been discounted once or twice.

Numbers will ramp up on Watanagashi next sale.

More in the haphazard series of "Games I've been playing™"

Plane design sandbox game. Designing is a little fiddly and my efforts were pretty poor but looking at the inbuilt examples and some of the stuff on the net you can design some pretty amazing things. Not a lot of tutorials so you probably need to come at it with a little knowlege of aerodynamics and plane design.

I did finally manage to design a plane that was able to take off, though by take off I mean launch into a series of uncontrollable loops inevitably ending in a crash. The graphics are serviceable, but nothing special though that is understandable as the mechanics are the main focus here.

I had issues with certain design elements of Blackguards 1 and some have been improved in 2 while others still remain. Still a Turn-based RPG with heaps of stats/gear/mechanics though some have been streamlined thankfully. The game also doesn't punish you like the first if you don't play the game the way the developers intended, multiple strategies are rewarded at last.

The biggest issue I has was the general lack of information and what the hell you are meant to be doing half the time. The game lacks a journal and the small number of quests can be found on the map, kind of. The general gist is that you have to take over the map one location at a time with each location containing 1-2 tactical maps and benefits to your army. Between battles you head back to camp to talk to your comps, torture captives or talk to yourself to convince yourself you aren't going mad.

Tactical battles while quite interesting are poorly telegraphed, probably half the time I had to play them a second time. The first time to learn about he encounter and the second time to actually beat it. An early mistake can be fatal.

The graphics are decent, the writing pretty good and the VO surprising good. It's not super long, it took me about 18 hours or so but it's well worth a play and improves on the first in many ways.

Absolutely fantastic homage to 1950's Sci-fi in the form of a twinstick 3D platformer. Crashing on an Alien planet Dick Starspeed must ascent the Tower to battle the evil emperor! Packed full of references to every sci-fi film ever made and narrated by the director of the movie, the whole package is a joy.

When I first launched the game I was a little disappointed by the terrible screen tearing. I tried fiddling with vsync etc... but it turned out I was playing the game in VHS mode and it was deliberate. Switched the DVD mode and everything was fine!

Cannot possibly recommend this highly enough!

Little puzzle game where you are presented with a grid of boxes of two colours, blue and orange. Some of the boxes have numbers in them and can be used to change the colour of the boxes in the any direction you choose limited by the number in the box, hence a wave.

Not sure about this one, interesting idea, but it turns out the puzzles are procedurally generated not designed and I'm pretty sure the algorithm isn't perfect and can generate unsolvable puzzles. I had one very early that was clearly broken. Other reviews have noticed this too.

Meh...

Turn based strategy RPG set high among the clouds in a floating city that's totally not Bioshock.

It's a game of numbers, take more land back from the invaders with superior troop numbers, generate more resources to feed said troops, buy more troops, fortify you reclaimed lands and improve them. There is some deep strategy going on in the battles though some elements are only available to the enemy strangely thus far.

Beautiful hand drawn graphics and lovely story elements, definitely going to finish this one soon!

Pretty sure reading "Dankmemeronpa" on their official twitter account is the pinnacle of despair the series has brought me.

Danganronpa to be $30 but with 20% launch discount, also it has trading cards

Sweet, a Monokuma emote! Price is okay enough for me to double dip. Hope they had the original images in 1080p and it is not stretched from Vita resolution though.

I'm going to echo Brad Shoemaker here (hey there's a first (and last) time for everything right?) and say 'the pitch than needed to sell me on XCOM 2 was "hey we're making XCOM 2"'. That was it, I was in from the start.

I think many of us were, I'm also looking forward to dabbling in modding it.

Looks like The Division will get an open beta this month

Infectious.

Xbox Italy's official Facebook page has details of an open beta for The Division.

Ubisoft's online shooter will throw its doors open to the public from 16th to 21st February, the page has detailed.

This second beta test (the first to be public) has yet to be officially announced, so things may still change - although Microsoft should probably know what's what.

Once again, there will be 24 hours of exclusive access for Xbox One owners.

A second beta test makes sense - there's more than enough time for another, before the game fully launches on 8th March.

The Division's current closed beta test has been extended until 11am tomorrow, 2nd February - so you'll still be able to play it tonight if you were invited.

We've reached out to Ubisoft in case it feels like confirming.

Well I guess there can be no confusion now then huh. But as much as some folks will hate the way this is going to be released, I really had fun with Revelations 2's episodic release schedule. And in something like a Hitman where you have multiple ways of clearing the misssion/map, it might encourage peeps to go back through and try different things. That or go post on the internet about how it's 'the death of gaming as we know it'.

what happened to those people that preodered new Hitman? I read somewhere about refunds, I mean have SE really cancelled all preorders? That seems excessive even for them.

So reading those XCOM2 reviews, one could still miss an attack even with 99% prob. chance of a successful shot?
Why even bother giving me percentages, just go random #/Odd # chances display and at least I would rage differently.

99% is not 100%, it can miss of course, although that should be very rare occurrence.

of course you can still miss with a 99% chance as it should be, thats half of the fun and mathematically correct :)
